As soon as Joe had come aboard the CO had told him to report to the XO. This hadn’t gone so well as at first the XO was too busy moving about and then had been reassigned to another vessel altogether. That had been some time ago so now that he had an XO to report to he thought he would give it a shot. It might at least give him some brownie points with the captain. Joe had seen the new XO down in the Dragon and thought that he had best make this a quick charge and retreat sort of affair. For he had met very few redheads in his life that weren’t at least a bit possessed by some evil spirit. And he had met enough from his own family.

So, he had prettied himself up a bit. Combed his thick hair, put on his brightest flower print Hawaiian shirt and tan slacks along with his slip-on deck shoes and was now at the door of the XO’s office. Maybe he thought to himself. She wouldn’t be in, and he could tell the CO that he’d tried at least.

Layanna looked up from the padd she had been reading thankful for the distraction. “Enter” she said as she placed the padd on her desk.
