On scans the system was as much described, a single solar body, three inner lifeless small planets of various mineral make up, a large outer gas giant with a multiple ring system and small moons, and in between a single class-m world with a pair of orbitally opposing small moons. Nearby at the edge of the system the colony’s long range subspace relay was present and by all scans showed active and in good shape, so on the surface not likely they had a communication failure. Inside the system a 30 some year old automated gas collection and processing drone was still busy floating in a low orbit of the gas giant collecting and processing helium and hydrogen gases, again no signs of problems there. Orbiting the Unity itself the class M world, a few smaller orbital satellites were present for weather and in-system comms and navigation all seemed operational. But long range scans of the planet while indicating life signs, could not resolve if there was any human life signs, or their status.

“Switch to manual and continue to hold this station, outside the colony’s claimed system space for now,” Glen instructed. “Any unusual readings on the instruments?” Glen asked. “I’d like to see all the reports please, preliminary geological lab survey reports, spectrographic reports, communication surveillance analysis. Is there any sign of alien technology present? Anything at all seem out of order for an old Earth colony about as far out as their primitive Warp engines could reach?”

As Cross looked at the screen she turned to the Captain ‘’There are life signs but its much less then I expected’’ was her only comment…at least for now.

Max was engineering working on some reviews when he felt and heard the ship come to a stop. He assumed they were at the Unity system. He hit is comm button on his desk and said, =/\=Lt Mullins to Bridge. I assume we have arrived at Unity. It seems the trip went well. Everything is in tip top order down here. Is there anything you need from engineering? =/\=

Can you provide more power to long-range sensors, and do you have any sensor probes ready for immediate launch? =/\= replied Glen to Max. =/\= We have discussed the possibility that we are not welcome here, and also that we might meet with aggressive behavior for even just showing up here to help. So, if we can observe the colony, and do some long-range surveillance work first, to give us some idea of what we are up against, then that seems like a better option to me. If our experience with our visit to EP19 taught us anything, then it showed the benefit of a little research first, before jumping in with both feet. =/\=

=/\=I will see what I can do about the sensor power. I believe we can throw some more at it. I will re-route some power from some non-essential systems to get more power to the sensors. In regards to the probes, they are already ready to go. We just need to get them loaded up. I will get that started as well. Lt Mullins out.=/\=

Lt Mullins then stood up and walked out of his office. He looked over and saw that Ensign Chu was working on an engineering station. He walked over to Ensign Chu and said, “Help me on getting some more power re-routed from non-essential systems to provide some additional power to the sensors.” Lt Mullins and Ensign Chu began working to get more power to the sensors without effecting any important systems. After a few moments of work, Lt Mullins could see that some additional power, about 10%, was provided to the sensors.

After finishing the sensors, he punched in the correct steps in order to load the probes. After a few moments, the probes were ready to go.

He then hit the communication portion of the station, =/\=Lt Mullins to Bridge. I have provided some additional power to sensors. I hope its enough to help out. Also, the probe’s should be ready to go. They can be launched at any point. Mullins out.=/\=

Lance had come to enjoy the arrival into a star system. He was lucky enough to be on the bridge for this one. There was just so much information he couldn’t help but take in. He did manage not to make an “Ohhhhhhhh” sound, although it was harder than it should be.

He heard the requests for scans, communication and such were definitely the remit of engineering but he knew some of the data would come through his terminal.

“Will update you on the results of some of the scans as we get them Captain.” Lance said waiting for the information to populate his screen.

“Thank you, Lt.,” replied the Captain. “Run any scan you see fit… no, just run any scan you can think of… and then some you haven’t! Something has changed here, and it could simply be a new colony leader who wants complete isolation, but if it is anything else, from hostile aliens to ion storms, then scan for it! Whatever problems we can eliminate will make finding the actual problem easier.”

With more power to sensors the resolution gains were a bit better to resolve from their current distance for short range scans. The reports soon came in. Geological scans showed nothing too unusual on Unity itself where the colony was, leastwise near the northern central continent area where the main colony settlement was and elsewhere where outlying cities were. Spectrum analysis for energy or anything unusual in the system or else on Unity itself came up empty as well. Biological scans for Unity showed life signs were confirmed both native plant and animal life, and were picking up roughly 700-800 some thousand human life signs scattered across the planet in the records that showed their city/larger town locations. However, their health and status etc could not be resolved cleanly beyond this. Stellar weather showed clear of any solar storms, or ion storms etc, and lastly no signs of alien technology was picked up. Communication’s analysis both in the system and on the planet of Unity though were the only oddity stand out was picking up the various automated drone and mining systems around the system sending pings for service, mineral pick ups, and the like, but based on the record logs no responses had come from Unity to them in almost 6-7 months of time. Conversely local communications within orbit of Unity by automated satellites or subspace links showed a backlog of almost that same time of unread messages pending to come in but only a handful from just before that time period waiting to go out. Presently beyond this there was no active comms traffic of any sort.

When the results had been analyzed Cross turned to the Glen ‘’It seems there is nothing alarming here Captain except their communication system ‘’ she heaved a sigh of relief........maybe a bit too soon to do so.
