Cross moved a few steps away ‘’Guess is time to tell your uncle ,keep your fingers crossed that he won’t end up in sickbay due to shock ‘’ this time there was a hint of humor in her voice.

“You keep saying it like I’m never ever coming back!” Faith replied. “…but stealing that map. I still don’t know what possessed you to do that… and you were going to get into so much deep water over it until it turned out that the Merrimack needed the map anyway, and then everything was Jim Dandy, and everyone forgot that you had actually stolen it! What extraordinary luck that you have Miriam!”

Cross lowered her head as she put a hand over her stomach ‘’Luck Faith ? Maybe some day , anyway I do hope that our paths shall cross again ‘’.

“Stop it please!” Faith replied. “I’ll have to come back to visit uncle John!” she laughed. “…but you must know that I’ve been seeing Dariusz Pokorski from the Bridge. I think it might be serious… so, I’ll have to come back to see him too… then there is my favourite Doctor… no not him silly… you of course!”

’’ Really you and Dariusz are seriously dating ?That’s nice to know he seem to be a good guy ‘’ it was then that Cross decided to tell her friend ‘’ Guess what, Joe and I are trying for a baby , if it happens his family we’ll care for him or her ‘’ she could not contain her excitement at the prospect of becoming a mother ‘’ I can’t help but love that twerp !’’ the doctor exclaimed ‘’ I have only told you, please keep it to yourself and when you visit your uncle don’t be surprised to find the cat sitting on his lap ,its his pet and its about time he takes the responsibility of taking care of it ‘’ as the image of the Captain on the bridge with his cat Cross burst out laughing .

Faith was too surprised to reply. Obviously, she would keep it a secret, but it was the last thing she had expected with all of the problems Cross herself had experienced from the enforcement of the Federation Laws preventing any individuals found with genetic enhancement from practicing medicine or serving in Starfleet.

It had nothing to do with an ability to read another person’s thoughts but Cross knew Faith all too well ‘’Dear there is nothing wrong with me ‘’ she was referring to the gene manipulation and what the lab had done when her biological father was in the early stages of developing as a fetus.

She now wondered if the gene would be passed on to her second child as it did to her first , then again Joe’s family would have quiet a handful on their hands raising the child up but knowledge is power ,something her grandfather did not quiet fully grasp and neither did Cross . Miriam knew that the color of her red eyes where also manipulated simply for the lab to pick out the batch of babies once they were born.

Cross did not want her dear friend to worry ‘’ Faith it does seem that I have mellowed down over the years ,the urge for some kind of stimulation is not as strong as it used to be and I haven’ caused any problems to your uncle since I came back have I ? ‘’.

Faith still had some doubts regarding Miriam’s explanation, as she knew she had suffered problems during her own life, and there was still a stigma attached to any kind of augmentation at all. “Well, that’s somewhat reassuring, I guess?” Faith replied. “And of course, I’ll keep it a secret.”

Having consultant both doctor Hunter and doctor Kim it was agreed that the patient was now in a more stable condition, thus the medication that was used for putting him in an induced coma was stopped …it would be a few hours before the patient would regain consciousness .

After some time passed, there was a faint wheeze then further wheeze followed by an intake and harsh exhaling of breath from their patient. The man it seems was slowly and sluggishly regaining consiousness.

They watched as he started to regain consciousness ,Hunter still kept an eye on his vital signs ,while Kim gave him a much needed pain killer due to the burns though they had been treated, the Lt would need skin crafts as the woulds healed.

Cross bend down and spoke ‘’ I’m Cross chief medical officer of the Merrimack,you are in sickbay .Our Captain had a briefing with the Admiral who send the Merimack to the Nebula in search for the ship you were on the Trudograd ,I believe you are Junior Lieutenant Engineer Carol Machs ..am I correct?’‘.

She had a hundred and one question she needed to ask but for now the patient was far from alert.
Meanwhile Cross told the others that from what she saw the Trudograd seem to have been blown from the inside.
