On biobed 3 the EVA suited survivor of the Trudograd was beamed in. NE Nurses soon carefully stabilized the man in question and got the suit off him efficiently, before sedating him further to stabilize him from oxygen, water, and food withdrawal. Within 15 minutes he was out of direct danger, but the man had numerous burns, across much of his body indicating he had likely gotten caught in a major explosion. He also showed signs of spacial decompression likely showing he also had been for a very short period of time thrown into the vacuum of space before getting into an EVA suit. Further his lungs showed signs of similar exposure. All in all he was quite lucky it seems to have survived what seems a full ship wide destruction of the Trudograd. Clutched in a death grip in his left hand that had to be carefully taken from his unconscious body was a slightly burned and damage computer chip and PADD.

NE Sally spoke once the man had been evaluated. She presented her findings to Cross. “..We got an ID from DNA samples in our library from DS K-5. He is Junior Lieutenant Engineer Carol Machs..” she reported.

The minute the man materialized Hunter was by is bedside firing orders… assessment ,evaluation and implementation .

‘’Kate call Cross she’s on the bridge , to head to sickbay on the double ‘’ the nursing officer nodded.

Once Cross found his identity which was given to her by a nurse ,the CMO made contact with bridge =/\= Captain the man’s identity from our DNA sample is Junior Lieutenant Engineer Carol Machs .He’s condition at the moment is critical we are working on stabilizing him ..Cross out =/\=.

Hunter had already intubated the patient, the tube was hooked up to a mechanical ventilator that essentially breathes for him. A ventilator is able to clear carbon dioxide from the lungs and deliver high concentrations of oxygen, It reduces the energy the body needs to use to breathe, in hopes of allowing time to rest and heal.
Cross looked at the monitor , his oxygen saturation was increasing but the blood pressure was low ‘’ The body has lost fluids due to the burns put up a saline infusion ,I need bld samples both arterial and venous. Put him in an induced coma ‘’ she heard doctor Kim say that he had 70% burns ,some of which were considered to be 3 rd degree burns .
The female doctor was doing a central line insertion procedure ,both saline and prophylactic antibiotic entered the body through the central line.

Hunter informed Cross that the scan showed signs of spacial decompression,the treatment was already being carried out, as emergency treatment for decompression sickness involves maintaining blood pressure and administering high-flow oxygen. Fluids where already being administered. Cross told the medical team that the patient should be placed left side down and the head of the bed tilted down. ‘Proceed with caution’‘.

This treatment reverses the pressure changes that allowed gas bubbles to form in the blood stream. The treatment drives nitrogen back into its liquid form so that it can be cleared more gradually from the body over a period of hours.

Dr Kim turned to the CMO after his assessment ‘’Cross some of the burns are serious the treatment may involve medications, wound dressings, therapy and surgery. The goals of treatment are to control pain, remove dead tissue, prevent infection, reduce scarring risk, include skin grafts and regain function…leave the treatment of the burns to me ‘’.

She nodded ‘’ You have my authorization to choose a medical team to assist you doctor ‘’ and with that she walked to the medical lab to check the blood results.

On checking the sodium level Cross left the lab and headed directly to were the patient was . ‘’The sodium level is low , keep the saline running and put another one when its finished ’ she turned to Kate ‘’ Please hook up a lactated Ringer as well ‘’ the CMO knew it was the IV solution most similar to blood plasma concentration, it is the fluid of choice for burn patients .

She kept a close eye on his blood pressure ‘’ Hunter when the saline and lactated Ringer finish, keep altering between the two after which do please take blood samples again ‘’ .
After some time much to everyone’s relief the blood pressure was rising slowly to a more acceptable level. The last thing she wanted was for the patient to go into cardiac arrest .

Hunter headed to the medical lab checking the patient ‘s blood for Helium and Methane , two gases that were know to be present in the Nebula. Though in a stable condition if he indeed did breath a significant amount of these gases , Lt Carol may suffer long term symptoms upon becoming conscious . Hunter had not wasted any time in attaching the patient to a ventilator pumping oxygen .Knowing the saturation and vital signs had improved significantly the male doctor was not worried.

The Yellow Alert sirens were now sounding and flashing amber lights had begun throughout the ship. Faith should have headed to Sickbay to do her service as an auxiliary nurse, but was already there anyway, swotting for her Starfleet Medical examination. The situation on the Bridge must be extreme because her uncle, Captain Glen, never used the red and yellow alert systems unless he really, really had to. She saw Doctor Cross run over to the medical lab and disappear inside.

Faith put her books away and walked over to where all the commotion had been taking place in Sickbay. She saw that the single patient who had been brought in earlier had the most terrible burns that she had ever seen before (although most of her medical experience had been in maternity and childbirth, so that didn’t see all that many burns.)

“Sirs! Reporting for duty! Where do you want me? How long have we got until the rest of his crew arrive?” Faith asked Hunter or Kim, or whoever was making the decisions.
