Lance had found his quarters, he didn’t pay much attention to them, they were literally a place to sleep, keep stuff and get dressed. Lance was rather prone to being focused on things to a point where he could forget the world around him. Some people might consider this a problem, Lance didn’t understand these sorts of people. He was more than looking forward to getting into the lab, being on the same planet and studying the same thing was great but the prospect of lots of different planets was sending him to almost giddy levels of excitement. But before he got to the labs he had jobs to do, he had a list of things to do. And currently top of that list was his boarding medical.

Luckily unlike the space station the Merrimack had deck plans so after only 4 dead ends he found the sick bay. Never his favourite place, it was full of sick people, and always less interesting that his lab.

He enetred the sickbay and looked for anyone who seemed free, spotting someone who looked like they weren’t already involved with something else. “Err Good afternoon, I believe I’m ment to see someone about a boarding medical?” he asked.

-Lt Malone

The nursing officer made her way towards him,she could not recall seeing him before and through experience was quick to come to the conclusion that he was there for his medical ‘’Hello I’m Kate would you care to follow me please ‘’ then pointing to an empty biobed ‘’ I’ll go and fetch a doctor ‘’ and off she went.

She knew doctor Hunter was busy doing another medical ,so she popped her head inside the CMO’s office ‘’Cross there is a new crew member for his medical’‘.
‘’ I suppose the paper work can wait’’ she murmured getting up and headed to were Kate directed and pointed out the location of the biobed.

‘’Hi I’m doctor Cross ‘’ she smiled while extending a hand ‘’ I suppose you’re here for your medical?’’ she asked the young man.

Lance nodded to the nurse and quietly followed her, he had learnt the hard way several years ago not to argue with nurses, they could be very scary and it was just best to do as they said. He found his way to the bip bed and flashed the nurse his best and most charming grin. “Thanks nurse Kate.” He said cheerfully. Far more cheerfully than he felt. Sickbays always made him nervous, twitchy and longing to be back on the other side of the doors.

‘’You’re welcome ‘’ Kate replied waving at Lance as she made her way back to changing the dressing of one clumsy crew member .

And it took Lance more than a little self control not to leg it out of the sick bay. But soon a doctor was with him. “Oh…Me? Er yes Sir… Doctor. Lt Malone here for my medical.” He rushed tripping over his words. “As you can see I’m alive and stuff so all fit for duty”

-Lt Malone

‘’So I see but lets do the scanning first shall we ‘’ Cross easily picked up that Lt Malone would prefer to be anyplace but sickbay.

‘’Just relax doctors don’t usually bite ‘’ she said in a rather cheerful manner to try and put the young man at ease ‘’ Is there anything I should knew before starting ?’’ Cross asked the same usual questions .

Lance looked confused “Usually.... that would suggest that on occasion doctors DO in fact bite, but what situation would arise that would cause a doctor to bite is it a defensive mechanism? Or are doctors more predatory in nature? Would this be the reason for the saying an apple a day.... was this some ancient defence against doctors, and was it a regular Apple or some extinct species of apple, or perhaps a cult of apple worship, which I believe resurfaced in the early 21st century....” Lance was rambling but it was if he suddenly caught himself and stopped.

He took a few breaths closed his eyes, as if centering himself. When he opened them he looked somewhat annoyed “Sorry bad habit, please ignore me.” He said apologising. Lance often felt his brain was racing at endless speeds, great when problem solving in the lab but sometimes his brain and mouth would team up without his permission and those racing thoughts were verbalised usually when he was nervous or excited. As a teen Lance had tried and failed to study Vulcan techniques for reducing his emotional state, there was way too much effort required and keeping one’s mind blank was a skill Lance was just not capable of. Over the years he’d learnt to try and calm himself in short bursts, avoid situations where he got nervous. But joining a new ship and a medical had certainly got the better of those nerves.
OOC: If there is anything you want to put own.

Cross read the scan

OOC: again does the scan pick anything up?

The scan picked up very little, an elevated heart and respiration rate. But nothing serious. It picked up lots of old injuries, torn ligaments, broken fingers and a nose, muscle tears. Either he played contact sports or ran into walls.

When she read the scan Cross put the tricoder away ,pulled a chair and sat down next to the biobed ,placing her hand gently on his shoulder . The CMO spoke to him ‘’Lt Malone,I know most of the crew hate sickbay but try to relax ‘’ then she went on ‘’From the medical side you’re cleared for duty ,though the scan did pick up old injures, I hope you don’t have the habit of climbing up walls and jumping from roof to roof ‘’.

Lance was trying his best to relax, he was just very poor at it. “It’s not you doctor I assure you it’s me.” He said trying to apologise. He figured changing the subject might help him take his mind off things. “So doctor, what’s the Merrimack like?” It would have worked better if he was a master of the art of conversation… he was more a finger painter of conversation.

‘’The Merrimack’s crew look out for each others backs ,we care ....I call it home ‘’ and for a brief moment her eyes had that haunted look

Lance was not always someone who understood or ‘got’ hints but even he couldn’t fail to notice a look across the doctors face, “That’s good to know, it’s my first time working aboard a starship, I worked on several planet based projects, where people were either the bestest of friends or mortal enermies. It would be nice to know everyone has your backs, rather than trying to put knives in them.” He paused, “I guess you’ve seen a lot in the big dark.” he asked, space seemed so big now he was actually living in it, and he wasn’t sure how he felt about that yet.

Cross seemed to be looking an invisible spot ,she was quick to jump from the trance she found herself in ‘’ I’m afraid I have had my fair share just like other crew member ,including the Captain and the first officer , we find ourselves having to take decisions we would have wished we did not encounter ‘’ the female doctor replied in a somber tone ‘’Based on the Federation rules ,principals and criteria we must adhere or risk being court marshaled’’ .

The doctor asked if he was prone to jumping off roofs. He was somewhat confused, and then he twigged “Oh no.... no I’m not a comic book vigilante, did think about it once but the costume made me look stupid.” He grinned “No I play…well I guess now it’s played rugby. It’s a great game, fast, skill full and much cooler than soccer.” He doubted there was much chance to play now he was space bound.

Cross nodded there was no chance of playing rugby on the ship ‘’But you can always go to the gym and maybe learn something new’‘.

Lance smiled, “It’s not quite the same, it’s more to do with the competitiveness, and other people being involved, you might call it agression, but it was more a way of just refocussing myself, I’ve never quite felt the same on a tred mill as I do running up the pitch.” he shrugged, “But I’m always willing to try and find something new.”

‘’Yes to much testosterone !’’ Cross exclaimed ‘’Anyway your best bet would be pretending that the punch bag is an opponent …it works for me cause it keeps me out of trouble ‘’.

Cross was gentle in her demeanor, having a considerate and kindly disposition ‘’Lt, in which dept are you going to be working ?’‘.

Cross CMO.

“Me?” He didn’t realise it wouldn’t be obvious, he’d been on a science research mission where everyone worked in science. On a star ship there were numerous different departments “Oh I’m a scientist, I mainly specialise in Xenobiology, but I can be a bit of a jack of all trades, I like to learn, I’m most happy when involved in any research project, except for physics… physics is for engineering, too much maths.” He explained

Lt Malone

’’ Really! ‘’ Cross exclaimed ‘’ I have never encountered a star-fleet officer advancing in genetic engineering ‘’ and she felt intrigued ‘’ Xenobiology is the science of estranged life forms. More specifically, this is an emergent technoscience that combines advances in genetic engineering with the design of biological systems based on unusual biochemistries delivered by chemical compounds of mostly anthropogenic origin. Xenobiology enables us to create and study strange new life forms ‘’ the doctor finished off proud as punch for remembering what Xenobiology meant. Cross was lurid by a sense of curiosity and inquisitive nature it appealed to her..without knowing her own creation could have been something similar.

Cross CMO.

“Oh my days!” Lance exclaimed, a shift of pure joy and excitement came over him, it was almost as if someone had brought a puppy into the room. “That’s it exactly! It’s so awesome to find someone who actually gets what I do. Xenobiology has such a massive potential for discovery and scientific advancement. And you are absolutly right, you need to be able to wear so many hats, some days you’re a biologist, some days you’re a geneticst, other days you’re a chemist and some days you’re biochemist.” Lance was suddenly full of energy it was clear where his passion lay, “The study I was last on was looking at plant life on a planet with sub zero temperatures, exactly where you think plants couldn’t grow, but grow they did, their leaves were crystaline in nature. It was incredible, we were just trying to find out how they managed to grown and survive in those temperatures, so it was finding the energy mechanisum as photosynthesis wasn’t a thing and that leads to arguments of if it doesn’t photosynthises is it even a plant, that led to a lot of late night arguments and massive fallouts that made things very tense for several weeks.” Lance realised he was probabily far too enthused about something that to a normal person was incredibly dull. He paused counting to five in his head, the one technique Cora had drilled into him when they had worked together. “I think I would have probabily enjoyed to stay there, even with how cold it was, you can only build so many snowmen before it becomes a concerning hobby. However, Star Fleet had other ideas for my carreer. They felt I needed more space time, probabily away from snow, or anything I can build with.” he explained, he really hoped his supervisor here had a better sense of humor than his last one.

-Lt Malone

The CMO listened attentively occasionally nodding to let the Lt know that she was following ‘’ I shall most probably come if you find something interesting ,as for your CSO I believe he’s the kind of guy who is open to make an all-out effort and wont object or hinder your interest and passion’‘. She offered a hand for Malone to raise himself from the bio bed.
