Dariusz returned to his station at Navigation, thanking Iphigenia Duran, the Helm officer for covering for him. He made an “okay” symbol to Doctor Cross, to indicate that he had successfully delivered the data disk to the Transporter Room, although at this point Captain John T Glen had still not returned to the Merrimack from the planet surface. He wondered what he had missed while he had been away from his station on the Bridge, and if anything important had been said by the AI. He had left the recording running so that the Captain could be updated further if he was much longer on the planet. It seemed that Kahuna and the Transporter Chief were having a disagreement about how long an Emergency Evac should take.

Meanwhile, Cara had been trying to answer the question posed by Kahuna before he had left the Bridge. The answer was yes; that Starfleet had previously had several encounters with ascended lifeforms. Most recently, it seemed that the USS Enterprise had the most contact. “Sir,” Cara told Cross, “under Captain Kirk, both the USS Enterprise and a Klingon ship met with Organians, who millions of years ago, had existed as humanoids, but evolved beyond the need for physical bodies. Then once again, on the Enterprise under Captain Decker, he himself merged with the AI known as V’Ger, ascended to a higher plane of existence in a blinding flash of light, and hasn’t been seen since.”

McDuff quietly moved himself from the Turbolift door to the Security Station. He didn’t relieve the NE Crewman manning the station, but he stood close by, just in case he was needed. He hoped that the NE Crewman would feel supported by his presence.

‘’Yes Cara I know about Kirk ‘ship, under his command coming in contact with this…this encounters with ascended lifeforms . I had lectures back at the academy thus have some knowledge about them,though I do wonder why they want to exist as humanoids in generations yet to come and in favor of loosing their immortality,lest just say their thinking is beyond me’’ Cross replied back.

The doctor looked around the bridge to see who was present and was more then glad to see the head of security, for in truth she had no idea whether to trust this ascended life forms or not and was on edge for the Captain’s return.

“The records show that ascended beings often appear as Gods in human form,” Cara replied. “Sometimes they don’t even know they are ascended. Sometimes they are not benevolent. Sometimes, like this AI says, they have a preoccupation with wanting to better understand the lives of mortals! On the other hand, the Federation has done the same thing. I have studied Starfleet missions where it was the goal to covertly watch the progress of a pre-Warp, low-tech planet.”
