Cross had a pretty hectic day and once she headed back to her quarters flopped herself on the bed, closing her eyes for a few minutes before opening them again realizing that later on that evening she had invited Nkonsenye for dinner!.
Getting up she started pacing aware there was little time to prepare dinner and make herself at least a bit more presentable.Knowing that pacing around was not going to help she hit the comm =/\= Doctor Marthese,em… I need your help badly=/\= .Marthese responded back =/\ What’s the emergency Cross are you sick, hurt or both=/\= she replied wondering what could have occurred to the good doctor since her shift ended a few minutes earlier.
=/\= See its the CoS he’s.....=/\= Cross muttered as marthese wondered what had materialized =/\= Is he hurt? Is it an emergency =/\= the younger doctor asked with an edge in her voice. That’s when the conversation between the two of them turned’ Maltese’ ,before closing the comm Cross thanked the other doctor =/\= Thanks love you’re a God send, I shall leave my quarter’s door slightly open Cross out =/\= she then made a bee line towards the shower.
Cross Dr.
Nkosenye had been in his quarters for the past two hours. He had showered… twice… and gotten dressed… again, twice. He was looking forward to dinner with Cross, but he hadn’t anticipated this: he was nervous. Hence the wardrobe change and second shower.
He took a small vial from out of one of the drawers and pulled the stopper. It was a scented oil from his home. He poured a few drops into his hand and then rubbed it into his scalp. It smelled of trees and wind, and always reminded him of home and helped him relax. He finished getting dressed. Deep dark red, almost brown, pants whose cuffs hung tastefully over freshly hand-polished dark brown shoes. A loose fitting collarless white shirt with a tribal embroidery framing the v-shaped opening at the neck covered his torso. He looked at himself in the mirror, stooping down so he could see his face, and nodded to himself. Taking a deep breath, he picked up a bottle of wine and walked out of his quarters and began making his way through the passageways to Cross’s cabin.
Nkosenye, CoS
Cross was finally ready, she even took time to put on some light makeup while those reddish locks of hair fell down framing her face.Wearing a simple white dress the female doctor looked around her quarters and silently thanked Marthese for preparing dinner and more.
Cross Dr.
Mthunzi came to the door and took a deep breath and looked around. No one was coming by, not that he particularly cared if they were. Making sure his shirt was straightened up, he pressed the chime and waited.
Nkosenye, CoS
The door slid opened and he would see Cross smelling the scented candle cupped in both hands, these candles happened to be arranged throughout the quarters. The female doctor straightened up,smiled and reached out to her visitor ‘’Lt Nkosenye..please do come in’’ her tone was honey sweet and the flicker of the candles shaped her body with warmth and luminosity.
Cross Dr.
Mthunzi nodded and stepped through, allowing the doors to close behind him. He looked at her and his face softened and he smiled. “Doctor. Thank you for having me. I hope I haven’t kept you waiting.” he said, his voice a low rumble. “Oh, I brought you a gift.” and he extended the bottle out to her. “My parents sent it to me. I do not know much about wine, but it supposed to be very good.” As he spoke, his eyes didn’t leave her face.
Nkosenye, CoS
Cross’s red eyes seemed appealing, giving off light produced by another source of illumination ‘’Lt its a pleasure to have you’’ she responded back but before taking the bottle of wine the female doctor gave him a lingering hug .
Mthunzi responded by wrapping his large arms around her and returning the embrace, albeit somewhat stiffly… as if he was apprehensive about something. He then released and stepped back a bit, and nervously cleared his throat.
Cross picked up his reservation but she understood, as a doctor she had no qualms about touching others.
“My parents sent it to me. I do not know much about wine, but it supposed to be very good.”
‘’It must be since its from your parents’’ Cross responded back, taking two glasses and pouring the wine she gave one to the CoS ‘’A toast?’’ she asked raising her own glass to his.
Cross Dr.
Mthunzi nodded in silent agreement and said “To… new beginnings. And you may call me Mthunzi, if you like.”
Nkosenye, CoS
‘’Cheers Mthunzi ‘’ she replied as their glasses clinked ‘’Lets start before the food gets cold shall we?’’ on the table was a bowl covered by a lid and another flat plate with Maltese bread grilled, some with garlic, others with tomatoes, olive oil and herbs .
The doctor thought Marthese had made a good job of sorting out everything for her.......... though Cross did wonder what the second course was.
Cross Dr.Mthunzi smiled and said “Of course.” He set his glass down on the table and stepped around to one side and pulled the chair out for Cross. “It smells very good. I do not believe I have had this cuisine before.” he said.
Nkosenye, CoS
‘’Why thank you ‘’Cross replied sitting down ‘’And do call me Miriam if you so wish’’ a neatly manicured fingers picked up the plate with bread ‘’I would not be surprised most of the world know more about galaxies then our little island’’ the doctor chuckled then went on to ask the usual question.
Nkosenye pushed her chair in slightly and then moved to sit across from her. Looking at her, he smiled and said “Miriam. Yes, I do wish.” he said, much more softly then one would have expected.
‘’Tell me Lt why did you choose security in Star Fleet as a career?’’ Cross could not help but look at his broad chest and bulging muscles underneath the shirt he was wearing.
Cross Dr.
“I was originally training to be a Police officer in my home city.” and he absent-mindedly reached up and ran his fingers across a pendant that was just under his loose shirt. It was either something he didn’t wear often or was completely hidden by his daily uniform. It was a jet-black piece of some material, polished, and shaped into a crescent which hung from a necklace made from small brown beads. “I was recruited to Starfleet out of the Police Academy. I must admit to a certain… hesitation… to leaving. But my parents both convinced me that it was an opportunity to not ignore.” and dropped the pendant and chuckled slightly. “I think they are a little jealous of me, actually. They both have interests that would be very conducive to exploring new worlds.” and he paused and looked at her for a moment before speaking again. “And may I ask the same of you? Why Starfleet? Doctors are in great demand everywhere. Surely you had a broad selection of paths to follow.”
Nkosenye
The doctor listened attentively ‘’Yes you’re right I did work for years in E.R mostly with trauma patients when I moved to America but there came a time when I was exhausted and worn out,so decided to take time off to see more of our world’’ she paused long enough to think what she should say next ‘’ Well on one of my journeys, I met a Vulcan who had retired from Star Fleet and…and the rest is history ‘’ Cross decided to not go into much details and omitted from recounting how this Vulcan saved her from certain death due to her recklessness............ less Nkosenye should wonder about her state of mind.
Mthunzi leaned forward and listened to her as she spoke, his hands resting on the table. “Well, maybe sometime you can give me a lesson in that history…” he said and smiled slightly.
‘’Shall we tuck in the main course before it gets cold ‘’ the doctor tried her best to change the subject but she only picked the lid half way before a look of horror crossed her face ‘’I’ll strangle her!’’ Cross exclaimed, looking at the man as her cheeks turned bright crimson.
Cross Dr.
Nkosenye immediately looked concerned and sat upright. “Is everything all right, Miriam?” he asked, his voice reverting back to the low rumble. “Strangle who?”
Nkosenye, CoS
Cross too sat up ‘’Doctor Marthese that’s who!’’ she exclaimed ‘’Listen I’ll be honest with you,I got caught up in sickbay and there was no way I could prepare a meal and be ready ..I was looking forward to this and since the doctor was also born in Malta I asked her if she would help’’ her expression was like she had been struck in the face. ‘’I…I’m sorry Lt for ruining your evening ‘’ the doctor barley whispered.
Cross Dr.
Mthunzi looked across the table, a soft smile easing it’s way onto his face. “I am sitting alone with the most intriguing and beautiful woman I have ever met, drinking wine, and having a wonderful time. My evening is going just fine, Miriam. But something is obviously amiss, so let’s ‘investigate’, shall we?” he asked with a mischievous grin. He reached over and lifted the lid off the dish.
Nkosenye, CoS
Cross put a firm hand over her mouth less the CoS started screaming and she’ll unknowingly join along.
There it was..... a wonderful aroma of stew, made with beer, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots peas and herbs with snails cooked in their own shell ,which the Maltese called ‘Stuw tal Bebuxx’.
Cross Dr.
Mthunzi inhaled some of the steam coming off of the mouth-watering dish and said “If you plan on strangling her over this, I would hate to see what you would do to someone who couldn’t cook. This looks and smells excellent.” and then he laughed. “Did you think I would find snails to be unappetizing? If that is the case, Miriam, then I will need to introduce you to some of the dishes of my homeland. I am sure that you would find snails quite tame to some of those ingredients.” and he smiled warmly at her. “I can’t wait to taste it. And to share it with you.” and he lifted his wine glass to her in a silent toast, hoping to ease her feelings of worry that she had somehow offended his sensibilities.
Nkosenye, CoS
‘’This looks and smells excellent.” and then he laughed.
‘’Oh’’ was all she could say amazed ,Cross did not mind sharing it with him,but ‘share’ was not what Nkosenye was referring too and she also was worried he would be offended.
Alas there was only one way to find out,the doctor ignored the raised glass and instead steadily took the few steps between them never leaving his gaze until she was close enough that he could feel her warm breath. She slowly put her head against his chest which was easy enough considering how tall the CoS was but it was no ordinary hug her hands moved on his upper torso feeling his powerful strong muscles underneath his clothes.
h
Her heart was beating fast and she speculated if he could hear it. So this was it ,she made her desire know by a non verbal communication....would Mthunzi reciprocate her action?.
Cross Dr.
Mthunzi took a sharp breath and his back stiffened at her touch, but he didn’t pull away or move to stop here. After a short moment, he sat the glass down and put his arms around her and pulled her close, one arm around her shoulders and the other across her lower back He was obviously very strong, but his touch was gentle and not aggressive. He slowly exhaled and closed his eyes as he felt his heart beat against hers. After another moment of silence, he spoke softly to her. “I must say… you smell better than the stew.” he said with a very soft chuckle and squeezed her to him slightly.
