Lance was on a shuttle to his new post. He was going to be COS on the U.S.S: Merrimack. This was going to be very different for him he spent many years as an officer on a star base. The shuttle beeped at him letting him know he was almost there.

Now the waiting game

Tia was in the shuttle bay as the call came in. She palmed the console in front of her, checked with the bridge and then take the comm. =/\= Merrimack to shuttle, you are clear for docking. Bay one doors open.=/\= She have him the clearance for landing and sealed the inner doors, which lit the warning lights in the corridor to keep out folks while the shuttles arrived.

She waited and watched as he approached.

The shuttle entered the bay and landed almost perfectly. Lance hit the com switch again =/\= shuttle to Bay controller shuttle has landed waiting for Bay doors to close and Atmosphere to be restored before Power down and disembark =/\= Lance stayed in his set until it was safe to leave the shuttle

Captain Glen had taken the unusual step to come down to the shuttlebay to greet the new COS in person. They had been without a Chief of Security for some time now, and while his new XO had a background in Security and had stepped in during his duties performing HR, Captain Glen could see for himself that discipline was slipping aboard the ship. The behaviour of Doctor Hunter in Sickbay was unacceptable and he had recently learnt that actual fist-fights had taken place. He would like all of that to be resolved before they arrived at the home planet of the child from the stasis pod, whenever they found it.

Glen stood by the door of the shuttle to welcome Lance aboard the Merrimack.

Lance had already reviewed the Security reports for the last three months. Who is reviewing them while waiting for the shuttle bay to re-pressurizes. Seeing this much destruction on a vessel was not good. Punishments will be given out if the captain approves of them.

Lance did not like the answer of a slight weapons malfunction especially when operating a door [o] what OK what is your name and operation number [o]

Lance started to get his thing together as the Bay doors closed and the system started to re-pressurize.

Lance exited the shuttle when it was safe but he had a note to have a long talk with the crewman about his slight weapons malfunction. As he exit the bay he saw the captain after Walking up to him he saluted “Lt. Lance Del Wolf reporting sir”

“Welcome aboard the USS Merrimack,” announced Captain Glen. “I hope you had a pleasant journey here. I don’t usually come this far below decks but I thought I’d take this opportunity to greet you to check out the lower decks.”

Lance pulled a few pads from his bag “ as the new COS I will like to ask you a few questions if that’s ok. The main one is the incident in sick bay can you tell me The Who story to that……..and an report of crewman fighting in the mess hall. It looks like I have some work to do” he said with a half smile.

“Hey there! Slow down!” Glen replied, “Take a little more time, stow your kit, and find your Quarters first. It’s admirable that you want to get straight into the job, but the Merri can wait for you. I don’t have all the details on the incident and altercation but my XO has handled it. He is former security. You can speak to him about the finer details. I think it involved someone new to the ship, a junior Doctor, but I have little real control over who Command or Starfleet Medical send me, and ships that are away on long voyages of exploration and discovery, like the Merri, they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. There is a psychological impact from that, and it can be a hard life for many. Discipline aboard ship is very important, but we are no longer serving during ‘a flogging century’ and I want my leadership to be positive. Of course, this needs to also be a safe environment to work in, and we must root out insolence, neglect of duty and disobedience before it goes further, but I think you’ll find the Merrimack has a good crew and officers, focused upon the mission and their duty.”

OOC: Marthese would like it to be known that Doctor Hunter is not “new” to the ship and was aboard before either Doctor Cross or XO Joe Milligan. (Not that Captain Glen would necessarily know that.) Regarding his disciplining, you had best speak to them, as Captain Glen was not involved. He was alarmed about the rumours he heard, but has not had time to investigate the matter; certainly not at the time of this thread (which must be quite some time before current Sim events.)

Reports may have been exaggerated. On the other hand, Marthese, I don’t think there is any dispute that someone was punched on the nose. However, in the TOS episode, ‘Trouble with Tribbles,’ all that happened after the barfight with Klingons was that the crew got a dressing down and the CE got restricted to his Quarters. There seems to be plenty of leeway here.
