By now the doctor moved way from the punch bag he had been holding for the boy and sat down on the bench next to Miriam.With feet slightly apart ,elbows resting on the knees and his head lowered as he directing his gaze to the floor Hunter asked ‘’What’s the matter Cross ?What’s bothering you?’‘. For the moment he was met by silence.

He knew Cross was not about to open up that easily ,so Hunter for now decide that for now shall ask if she was injected the hypospray with the vitamins her body desperately needed.Cross nodded giving him a toneless stare .

The CMO did look much healthier then when she first arrived, her skin had more color and had managed to put on some weight but she was nothing close to what the medical data of her previous time on the USS Merrimack file contained .Even that seem to have been put together in a way that there was obvious missing data though how much or why the doctor didn’t have the slightest idea .

He wondered if there was a reason why the female doctor was visibly uncomfortably having close contact with Franz , there was an entry that at one point Cross had been pregnant though the biological father was unknown .
Hunter was absolutely certain there would not be any answers to-day ....if ever.

Joe had been looking at the interaction between Hunter and Cross from the corner of his eye. He could tell from Cross’s face that she wasn’t pleased with whatever Hunter might be saying to her. Good he thought. Perhaps you do have an ally in Hunter to get Miri back on her feet and keep her healthy . Joe clenched his teeth in anger at the thought of Cross being unhealthy. Anger at her for giving in. For surrendering , Anger at himself for not trying harder to be there for her and anger at the universe for doing this to her. And then again and more than anything . Anger at himself . The one officer with the orders that really deserved to be punched and walked away from by Joe and he hadn’t done it. He should have walked away from the fleet to get back to her. To save her . He’d failed himself and her.

Cross gave a glance at Joe and Franz wondering if the Cmdr was asking the boy the questions the Captain had ordered.

Joe felt the darkness of his anger growing in his mind. The cold darkness that almost never ended well. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He did a few more curls and then turned to Franz. He smiled at the boy. He was a cute , smart kid . He also seemed to busy on the weights to answer Joe’s question. Joe didn’t push the issue though .He did wonder what was wrong with parents who could let such a thing happen to their child.

Hunter still in the same position on the bench asked Cross how she ended up with a scar across her cheek to which she replied ‘’Kemm int fitt’’ which took the doctor by surprise ‘’Eh?’’ he asked now looking at her,when she saw the confusion on his face the CMO burst out laughing ‘’Silly its my native language which can be translated with how irritating you are !’’ she exclaimed ‘’Well if you want to know I was attacked by a grizzle bear ‘’ Cross said in all seriousness.

‘’And do you think for one second I believe you? Half your face would be gone if that was true, anyway remember that your medical evaluation is not complete ‘’ Hunter finished off without any expression on his face…not knowing how Cross would react.

Hunter stood up ‘’Well better head to sickbay,my break is almost over …I’m sure you’re in good hands around here ‘’ he said as his eyes fell on the Cmdr and with those last words the doctor left.
