Joe, after his chat with Hunter had had every intention of going straight to sickbay to speak with Cross. He couldn’t seem to get his thoughts straight, so he meandered up to the observation deck for a while. Gazing out at the station and the stars beyond Joe finally decided he should stop wasting time and just go down to have his talk with Cross about her illness.

As he entered sickbay though a nurse informed him that Cross had only a few minutes earlier went to the station. All the way back to his cabin Joe cursed himself for not getting the job done which he had set for himself. For as much as some people thought he was hard on them, Joe was hardest on himself. Once Joe went into his cabin, he had thought to get him a shot of that Irish whiskey finally but changed his mind. He wanted to be sharp for what he was doing. He was planning on looking through Crosses records to see if there might be something in her past to explain her current condition. Joe was hoping to be able to confront the issue with Cross a bit more diplomatically than what he normally would.

No soon er than he had logged on and given his name, rank, and security clearance though he had the thought to look into Hunter’s service record. He shook his head and told himself no though since Hunter seemed to have calmed down for the moment, he had no reason to go looking into the man’s past. He went instead to Crosses service record. He scanned across several of the most recent entries. Nothing but standard stuff really. So, he decided to go back more than a few years. It was then he saw a younger Cross on one of her earliest service records. Joe stared stupidly at the picture. His jaw went slack, and he could feel the blood drain from his face. As he stared at the display for what seemed an eternity he finally remembered to breath before he finally whispered. “Mi.. Miri…Miri?” Staring for a few moments longer he finally gained his composure somewhat as he tried to catch his breath. “Cross? Cross is Miri? ” He slapped himself in the forehead then and said aloud. DUMMY! Miranda … yes, Miranda is Miri!” It was then that Joe did indeed open that bottle and poured himself a shot as he walked to the wall and called down to sickbay with orders to let him know when Lieutenant Cross returned.

Lt. Cmdr. Joe Milligan XO

OOC: Joe will find months and months of redacted stuff if he tries to find out anything about any missions that the Merrimack undertook during the previous 4 to 7 years, but especially those pertaining to personnel records of Glen, Cross and Kord, and particularly anything regarding the medical records of Cross. It would appear that the USS Merrimack had simply disappeared on about three previous occasions with no reasons provided in the ship’s logs. The date order of some logs might not make sense either. They can be unlocked only with Admiral level permissions. However, he could probably ply a longer-serving redshirt (now there’s a contradiction in terms) with his Irish whiskey and find out more.

OOC: Actually, we had set it up that way. Joe served on the Merrimac long ago when he was younger as a Security Officer, and that’s where he originally met Cross. (See Marthese for other details!
