USS Merrimack

Main Sim - Alstair Prime - Returning To The Council Chambers

[snip]

Finally the First returned. =/\= The Council will see you now, I am sorry for the delay but I was asked to given a briefing on the impact, they may ask the same of you for your own insights. =/\= She said holding the Council door open for the landing party.

Glen was a little baffled now; the meteorite strikes couldn’t be that commonplace if a report was necessary every time one happened. So, they were not an everyday occurrence at all. That was a relief, and it explained why they didn’t have underground shelters and warning sirens, or why individual Alstaireans didn’t go about their business while constantly watching the skies. However, he was quite sure that the Federation could be of some assistance to the Alstaireans.

=/\= That sounds fine. Thanks for the invitation. =/\= Glen replied.

=/\= Although I’m not quite sure what I can brief them on. From our perspective, living under a constant threat of meteorite showers is not a very common occurrence. However, other planets have a wide range of natural hazards to deal with; earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami, as well as a variety of hazards of their own making too, what with warfare and pollution. I think what is more important than the hazard itself, is their vulnerability; their ability to anticipate, cope with, resist and recover from the impact of the hazard, and from what I’ve seen here today, your society seems very well able and equipped to do that. Although, our scientists and engineers can certainly help you with better detection systems, and with ways to divert the larger objects from collisions, if you were to join the Federation. =/\= Glen added.

The landing party entered the council chambers once more, things were a bit more lively this time around given the recent asteroid crash but overall were still professional. =/\= Captain Glen, thank you and your party for returning, we are glad to see you all are safe and well. =/\= The council lead said.

After a pause she continued, =/\= We have heard the First’s account of what happened, though we would like to hear your own if you do not mind? Also give you and your crews thoughts on what might change or be done different were our two peoples to join more closely. =/\= She asked.

Glen found himself thrust forward, effectively into the spotlight, with little really to add than he had already told the First. Glen was very good at blather and prattle but this seemed like his final chance to make a persuasive argument to the Council to file for membership of the UFP. So, he needed to be coherent and succinct for once. He walked up to the front of the council chambers and he gathered his thoughts together. He stood at the front, keenly aware that he had the attention of the Alstairean Councillors and that what he must say had to be a really hard sell if this mission was to be successful. He paused for a few seconds before he began speaking. The emotion of the occasion running high.
