Also, I think Liz would be interested in the Alstairean hospitals and medical facilities, and we will need to write a report on those for the Federation. =/\=

Glen spoke to the First, =/\= Our ship is sending help to your second lost Sleeper ship. My Chief Engineer, Science Officer and a medical team are on their way there now. I have my Chief Medical Officer coming down to the planet shortly. After the transport hub and training centre, could we visit your medical facilities, and you arrange to have her meet us there. She’ll land the shuttle in the same place as before. It would also be good to see how those crew that we rescued are recovering after their burns treatments. =/\=

“I can return to the ship if you wish Captain.” Kord offered.

“If you want to, but I wouldn’t want you to miss the transport hub visit and the other things you wanted to see,” replied Glen. “You’ll be much more help to me in writing our report to the Federation if you’ve actually observed it yourself. I’m not concerned about the Alstaireans or any enemies they have. It looks like a stable government, and they’ve told us that we are the first off-world race they’ve ever met. My problem is that I still have concerns about that sub-spacetime living race that attacked us last year when I left Doctor Cross with the Bridge. We were at a space station then, though they had their weapons offline, but if we aren’t safe at a space station then we aren’t safe anywhere. However, I also don’t want to spook the Alstaireans any more than we have. They didn’t like the idea that the Federation had enemies. They seem pacifists and the idea that aligning with the Federation might give them our enemies might make them baulk at the whole idea of membership. We also have some efficient junior officers like NE Kahuna, for instance. I just wanted to make sure William has it organised, that’s all.”

“By your command.” Kord said with a slight bow, “And your right, I’d hate to miss the tour. At my age, new things are a novelty.”

“That’s the other reason I’d like you to remain here,” Glen told Kord. “Your wide experience is unique in Starfleet. So tell me, why would a society that appears to be very fearful of the outside world and of any conflict with other worlds, send out three sleeper ships to explore, and to search for new worlds and civilisations? Without their radio broadcasts and their sleeper ships we wouldn’t have ever found them. Unlikely that any threat races would pass through this region of the Quadrant either.”

While the landing party discussed what was what, and who was going where, the First and her companion boarded the waiting monorail car waiting for the rest of their guests.

“I’m interested in checking out that training facility,” Hal said. “I’m impressed that you don’t seem to have a standing military. Even a defensive police force. It sounds like an ideal world.”

Kord thought for a moment before replying to Glen.

“Possibly the lack of encounters with hostile aliens has lulled them into a belief that advanced alien races would be benign, beneficent , and enlightened. Earth carried much the same beliefs before they met the Vulcans and were informed otherwise. The Voyager space probe witht he golden record attached is a prime example of that.”
