“Aye Sir. Phaser array to counter battery fire mode.... activated”. Ben pushing a few buttons “Tactical standing by for further instructions Sir”Park
“All right, but nothing more. This is first contact not a hidden attack, although the gods know we had our share of those lately, but we can’t let that mess up first contact protocol.” he said in a firm voice.
Calvin tilted his head with a slight smirk. “I’ve always erred on the side of caution sir.” Not to mention the shouldn’t be able to tell that the weapons been placed on any status particularly if they just entered sensor range. Which probably meant they were using light speed detection methods.
Thomas was silently observing the goings-on from the back of the Bridge as well, though in a different way from the enigmatic Mr. Jarvis. He did note the apparent lack of transporter technology, but after the debacle over Cait he wasn’t about to let anything as simple as an “apparent lack” get past him.
Guards were posted in all critical spaces, in the case of the Bridge they were at the back like him, between the turbolifts. He had tapped into the internal sensor feeds and was monitoring them from a PaDD he was carrying.
After all, when in uncharted space, it was prudent to assume that any encountered species would be hostile… and in the case of this species, try to board the Genny to acquire her advanced technology.

Niniane came in, taking the rear auxiliary station at the back and loading the science interface on it silently. First contact protocol required two science personnel on the bridge as there was usually a lot of scanning. Plus she was excited. Finally there was something to explore!
Dagen had the data open to all so wasn’t surprised when they reported the tactical information. With their speed he was sure that there was no issue with defense. Just to be safe he did a speed analysis of the probes they used and likened them to the speed of the nukes they had on board and then computed a safe tactical distance that would give them ample room to respond. “Sir, recommend we drop speed. They are only out of the nest and are haven’t broken the warp 2 barrier. With us barreling in at our top speed that could be unnerving to them.” It would be to him! “They use a mix of nuclear fission and fusion to power their drive. To do better they will either need to develop matter anti matter or, find a better way to contain the reaction with shielding. I would suspect that they would likely develop something closer to the Romulan singularity drives than what we have in time.” That was his guess anyway.
- Dagen, CEJulien again had gathered himself to reply, only to be disrupted by Dagen. “That is a wise precaution, we don’t want to show them something they’ve apparently just failed at. Helm, lower speed as we approach their sensor range to warp 1 and then impulse. I’d also like some science scans please, as soon as we’re in short sensor range. And now please give me 2 minutes to answer the good man!” he said to all of the with a half-smile on his face.
Calvin nodded.. it was a good precaution and it didn’t tip their hand as far as the power of the ship. Which also was the reason he never revealed the speed of the ship or the distance they needed to travel.
Niniane just silently nodded and programmed the usual array of scans for the time of entry in short range. A biological scan of the lifeforms on the alien ship and their environmental living conditions. She would leave the medical scan to the CMO, who was sure to show up soon too. She hoped fervently that they would come into scanning range of their home planet. New flora and fauna to explore… this was why she had signed up for Starfleet.
- Niniane Fahr, sciOOC: GM, scan results please :)
Long range sensors showed that they were at the outskirts of a yellow sun system. There were two planets that showed civilisations. The fourth and the fifth planets. With the Merry travelling at Warp 1.5, the fifth planet could be reached in 90 minutes and the fourth planet in slightly less than two hours. The position of the planets was that they were on the opposite side of the elliptical orbit in relative position to the Merry.
They were not too far from the planets to get a general idea of the flora and fauna. The natural parts of the planets were very few as the population of the people grew. Most of the species of plants and animals were reduced to those that provide food. There were small pockets where indigenous species could be found but from their numbers it would not take a century before most of the species would be extinct.
The technology is less advanced than the Federation. The only exception is the technology for space travel. At the moment they have very advanced nuclear technology but not on par with that of the Federation with the Matter-Antimatter mix with dilithium crystals. They seem to have teleportation technology but the resolution is not great enough for living beings. Communication is still via electromagnetic spectrum.
The hail from the Merry came, on all frequencies, again, =/\=This is Rear Admiral Clogtho of the Global Pallas Space Corps. Please identify yourselves. We have you on our detectors.=/\=
-GMSage entered the bridge just in time to hear the voice of Clogtho asking for identification.

Julien gave her a quick nod and showed her his boyish ‘I’m-so-excited’ face for a second, then he looked forward to the screen again that showed their fast approach and cleared his throat, nodding to Marishka to open the audio channel.
As Marishka opened the comms channel she realized she was a bit excited at this first contact. She was also pleased with the thoroughness of the bridge crew and that Julien would finally have a chance to speak.
-Marishka, CIO
=^= Hello Rear Admiral. I’m Captain Julien King of the Starfleet ship Genesis, from the United Federation of Planets. We come in peace. We are explorers and we received a distress call from the ship you also tried to save, that’s why we came. I’m sorry for your loss Admiral. =^=
- Julien King, CO
Sage understood Julien’s excitement, perfectly. She felt the same way—almost giddy with the possibilities a first contact could bring. She took a place behind the command chairs, between Calvin and the Captain, and stood with her hands clasped behind her. Once they were within range, she would initiate biological scans.

Here we go. Aevin thought. He kept his hands prepped on the helm controls like he was preparing to fly a fighter, despite the Genesis’ large size. First contact, as wonderful as it had the potential to be, made Aevin uneasy. Too many unknowns. And if it came to the worst, tactical and helm are responsible for the survival of the ship.
-Ensign Aevin, Helm
XO
Dagen turned now to watch and listen. The computer was logging what there was related to the vessel. The scans were fairly basic on the ship. Having an odd thought while the Captain replied to the ship, he stood and walked over to Calvin. Coming up beside him he spoke in a low voice for him to hear. “There is a tactical protocol in the system. Not many know of it as mostly it is completely obsolete but we had to test it before the Genny was christened. Key up Bravo Seven Seven Omicron Niner. It is a defense subroutine that is for multiple projectile targets - as in missiles.”
- Dagen, CEJulien just nodded. He couldn’t blame his bridge officers for being jumpy. After all, all of their most recent missions had been one fight for survival after the other. In a way they all had to re-learn how to be explorers.
=/\=United Federation of Planets?=/\= came the voice inflecting slightly higher. =/\=Welcome to our system, the Pallas system. Yet surely, you can’t be using the same language as us in our system? We’ve only managed to establish one language as standard only in the last century. How are we able to communicate like this?=/\=
-GMMarius tilted his head close to the captain. “The truth is better than deception at this point, if they don’t think we have a device, they will think we were spying on them for years to learn the language.”
Marius XO
Dagen headed back to his station and sat facing the screen. “The simple answer is to say that we possess a computer algorithm that aids us in language translation. If they had a planet with multiple languages they would understand that as they likely would have developed something similar, if more primitive.”
- Dagen, CERiley nodded his agreement with Marius, “Honesty seems best at this point.”
He hoped he wasn’t letting his excitement at the idea of meeting a new species cloud his judgment, but he knew there were far more cautious minds on the bridge with them. He sensed nothing beyond the ordinary wariness from the likes of the XO and CIO. When he’d joined Starfleet, he’d imagined first contacts to be a regular part of the job. They weren’t nearly as frequent as his young cadet self had hoped. To begin their deep space mission by meeting a people who were warp capable, yet appeared to pose little threat, seemed an auspicious start.
Dekker, CNS
Being the CIO, Marishka felt obliged to take careful notes and make observations the others might not. This was a first contact mission after all.
Glancing at her console, she checked the distance between the Genesis and the alien ship. Were they close enough for visuals yet? she wondered.
-Marishka, CIO
He nodded to all of them with a smile and replied, using Dagen’s exact same words, as they sounded sufficiently un-exciting.
=^= We are using a computer algorithm that aids us in language translation. Since we have peaceful relationships with many different species, the algorithm is rather well developed right now and can pick up a new language fairly fast. Thank you for your warm welcome Admiral. We would be delighted to meet you and get to know each other. =^=
- Julien King, CO
=/\=That is convenient isn’t it?=/\= The tone of the rear admiral had become more friendly. =/\=May I invite you to our ship, the Merry? I hope to show that we do not have any ill feelings for the first people we meet outside our system.=/\=
- GMDavid had remained unusually silent through the entire exchange. Riley would definitely be able to sense a feeling of anxiousness from his lover, as well as the sense that David knew more than he was letting on, a particular feeling that only Riley would know how to detect.
David cast a glance over towards the Captain, awaiting his decision.
-David Michaels, CSO
Ben was eager about this momentous occasion of first contact. He recalled a time from his village that a couple of lost hikers who wandered into the boundary. He shaked off that memory to listen carefully on the first contact.
Lt (j.g.) Park
Marishka weighed the odds of her going on this first contact mission. She could make the argument that showing diverse races, able to work together, might put these people at ease. She knew that there were other people on the bridge who could do that just as well but, ‘Could they keep them as safe as she could?’ she wondered as she made a mental weapons check. This was an inventory of everything she had on her person at that moment.
