Sage woke at the sound of the pre-set alarm. She’d gotten to bed very late the night before, sneaking in after Calvin was already in bed. She’d barely laid down and felt his arms wrap around her before she was asleep. Now, her hand felt the bed next to her and found it empty. Wow, she thought, I must have really been out of it if I didn’t even feel him get out of bed and ready for work.

In the replicator, was a single white rose and a card… “Missing You, seemed like months since we talked. Cal.”

Throwing back the covers, Sage slipped out of bed and headed for the shower. Ten minutes later, she was pulling on a uniform and downing a cup of coffee. Five minutes after that, she was striding down the corridor on her way to Sickbay.
