It was 18:45 as Reia made her way to Dagen’s quarters in casual dress and carrying a present bag. She frowned a little bit realizing it wasn’t so much a present as a regift. But that was a terrible word for the lovely bottle of wine. Like most other things having to do with her, this one came with strings attached or a disclaimer if Dagen asked the right questions. Perhaps they wouldn’t do much talking. She liked him, and wanted to get to know him, but couldn’t help getting tingles down her spine at the thought of his body next to her’s. Pausing for a second, she rang the chime.

  • Reia

Dagen had gotten back late - just before 18:00 and was grimy. He had felt like he was crawling through fusion exhaust tubes even though it was nothing close. He still came out of it dusty and grimy thanks to Bot’s shoulder hitting the filtration polarization circuit and reversing it sending a stream of dust all over him. At least they knew it worked, though it did need adjustment. His first stop was the shower . The next stop was him standing in the midst of the main room that looked like the ship’s structural integrity had reversed and dumped everything all about. He was depositing the last armload of odds and sods in the closet as the chime rang. Spitting out the shirt that he had in his teeth he dumped the load. His stomach growled in response as the closet door slid shut. He couldn’t say much for the bedroom that was better but still not exactly pristine.

The Trill knew it was Reia. Few came to his quarters even though he had an open door policy. Tonight was no exception though he had made it known that he was going to be busy, though he figured his team was more savvy in knowing what he was doing when he blushed when he said he was going to be studying. Or at least he hoped inside. He found that he had missed Reia. Were her pheromones addictive? He had researched this actually in the last days. Apparently joined Trill were less succeptible to the influence of them the more hosts they had - something about perspective and exposure, though the ‘science’ was a bit skitchy. There was a notation about testosterone as well where the pheromones reacted with greater fervor to higher levels. All that was science and some opinion. As Dagen recalled science rather flew out the window in his desire for Reia the other night. A repeat was not .. problematic to Dagen.

Answering the door personally, the doors slid open with a swish. “Right on time,” he said, though really, any time would be right on time. “Come in,” he continued, stepping aside but close enough to greet her with a soft kiss. He could feel her ‘influence’ almost immediately, a tingling through his body that ignited his senses to feel every moment of the press of his lips. His space was more customized than the standard Fleet furniture. A comfortable looking U shaped couch was positioned to one side that looked out the stars. A long glass top table filled a lot of the rest of the room that had PaDDs and papers spread out on it. “Make yourself at home.” He gestured to the couch. “I like to sit and look at the stars when I’m not shuffling PaDDs about.” He noticed the bag in her hand, his eyes trailing back up over her to her eyes. “It’s good to see you again.”
Dagen

Reia returned his gentle kiss and stepped in. Dagen’s quarters were pretty much as she had expected them to be, he was a single male after all, but his quarters wasn’t what she was here for after all.

She paused for a few seconds to look at the stars before sitting down. Smiling, she admitted to herself that the bottle of wine was just an excuse to come and see him. She had missed their conversation and their intimacy and would like to continue with both if possible.

“I think I wouldn’t mind looking at those stars either. Intel can be very monotonous work at times but, if you don’t keep up with it, it’ll bury you like an avalanche.”

  • Reia

Dagen joined her very shortly after she sat. He had divined that the gift bag, which was something of shape and size to be that of a bottle, still needed glasses. He set down two with a soft clink at the ‘coffee’ table. He had always thought that a curious name that the humans gave it. Most of the time it looked to be a depository for PaDDs, devices, papers, books - for those who still did that - and other drinks of which coffee seemed to be only one of many. Right now this particular table had three PaDDs, a small speaker for music, and a long print of a forward deck plan that he was studying. The table could act as well as a LCARS display but sometimes a printout simply worked and felt better. He pushed the plan forward more to accommodate the glasses.

He took a seat close to her, turning his body to angle toward Reia with his arm over the back of the couch just above her shoulders. “I think that is not an uncommon fate on a ship,” he said with a soft chuckle. He glanced to the stars then back to her. One of his legs just touched hers, derailing his thoughts for a moment. The pheromones that he was now expecting he could feel. It came on him like a warm blanket that was like a hidden memory of warmth and of good things. He embraced it but at the same time challenged it and strove to not let it get away on him. At least that was the hope. “What kinds of things are you working on? It must be exciting in a way dredging up secrets and all that.” She was a secret that he wanted to explore.
- Dagen

When Dagen’s leg touched Reia’s bare skin she merely crossed her ankles instead of moving away as she might have done otherwise. Unconsciously, she reached down and straightened the hem of her short denim skirt. Warmth and the inevitable pheromones seeped through her dark silk blouse as she turned to face him.

His eyes watched her movements and the way she shifted her skirt, legs stretching out from there. Part of him thought she moved with tremendous elegance, though another part battled that saying that it was just normal motions any woman would do. Both parts agreed that women simply moved in ways that mystified the male senses. He forced his gaze to the stars but mainly saw their reflection in the windows. He thought they looked good together, or at least the immaterial images in the reflection. Noticing that she turned to him he looked back, feeling a similar charge of excitement as their eyes met.

“Right now I’m mostly going over the past history of this ship. Things that people put in the logs that I can access, not official records, etcetera, etcetera. It’ll be very boring and then one interesting sentence will pop out and one will think about it for five minutes without even realizing it.” she said moving the bag from the floor and handing it to Dagen.

  • Reia

“You must be thinking of the original Genesis. Those logs would have been transferred prior to launch,” he mused. “Before I came on here.” He wondered what she actually was looking for, so asked. “What kinds of statements peak your interest? What does an intel lady look for?” He couldn’t help but smile thinking of her reading peoples’ mail. She shifted and picked up the bag. His eyes moved over her as she did. The curious part of him now wondered what she did with all those logs and if there was anything juicy in them. Where did ‘that’ thought come from? Taking the bag he peeked inside. It was no surprise that it was a bottle. The shape and, when he took it, the weight, told him that much. Taking it out of the bag he inspected it, though admitted to himself that he didn’t know one brand from another when it came to wine. Thor’s other hosts were better but, frankly, it did nothing for help when it came to wines younger than 30 years.

“Shall I?” he asked, reaching for the V-screw, a small vacuum based corkscrew. Attaching it he tapped it’s activation and watched as it drew the cork up. Dagen finished it with a somewhat exaggerated flourish, hearing the soft pop as the cork came fully loose. “I’d be a menace a hundred years ago with a real corkscrew,” he said, flashing her a smile. He had used it before but didn’t have much patience with it and usually fumbled something with it. Pouring out two generous measures, Dagen passed one to Reia. He thought that the dark colored liquid complemented her features. The act of doing all of this meant he was more exposed to her pheromones. Idly he wondered, since they both knew of it now, whether this was some form of test. Idly he considered too that many things women did had a ‘test’ quality to them; it wasn’t something he railed against - it was just something he came to recognize - and know based on Thor’s last host who was female.
- Dagen

Reia watched and listened smiling at his flourish at the end.

“My grandfather had a very elegant old cork screw. He shattered more bottles of wine with it than I think he actually opened properly. Don’t ask me how he did it, I never wanted to learn.”

Dagen laughed freely, in part from feeling more relaxed and in part from the sensations from Reia. “Now he sounds like my mother. My grandfather said that her ability to break things - more electronic things - was magical.” He swirled the liquid and looked at it. “That’s kinda where I got a start with this. She’d break things. Dad was pathetic at fixing stuff. Usually made it worse but he tried.” Chuckling he continued. “The two of them knew about their .. idiosyncracies .. and just made a joke of it. Since things were broken I got to play with them and now and again managed to fix one thing or another.”

She paused and looked down at the dark liquid. This bottle, the memories it held, and indeed, this very night were a kind of test for Reia as well. She had barely taken a sip of alcohol in the last eight years because it had nearly stopped her best friend’s wedding even though she wasn’t the only one directly affected by it. But for some reason, she trusted Dagen and wanted to share this with him. It was a luscious red from a vineyard somewhere in Betazed.

He sniffed the wine. It had something relatively grape-ey about it but that was about all he could discern. He had known people who could glean a lot more from it. He just liked the taste.

“As far as reading people’s files, you know I really can’t discuss that right? I hope that won’t be a problem for us. I enjoy your company and I have a feeling we can find lots of other things to talk about.”

  • Reia

She said us. That sent tingles down his spine. That would mean a think later. Right now he was just tickled. “When I was involved in the building of the Genny here I had more files pass the desk marked ‘secret’ and the likes that I sometimes felt I was a walking safe. I didn’t see them as all ‘that’ big of a deal but then we’re on board and working with this and that and it seems like the normal. We don’t see that a lot of this is important to keep confidential.” He looked around. “You see things that you have to make that call on. That’s big. I respect that.” He grinned. “Would be nice to know some titles though for the work you’re doing.” He winked again and reached out to clink glasses. “To keeping secrets, and sharing secrets.” The latter, he meant of growing closer.

Taking a sip he found that it was smooth and semi-sweet, and took another deeper drink of it. When he had swallowed he leaned in to give her a soft, if more lingering kiss.
- Dagen

Reia liked the taste of the wine on Dagen’s lips and enjoyed the kiss quite a bit.

Smiling, she caught their image in the reflected starlight and realized they made quite a pretty pair and everything just felt right in that moment.

Glancing down at the wine, she took a long sip savoring it before swallowing.

“Yes. Sometimes sharing secrets can be very revealing. I think it’ll be a good thing. It sounds like you had a very interesting childhood. I’ve never heard of someone’s ability to break things being considered magical.” she said with a laugh.

  • Reia

As much as he was more relaxed than their previous encounter Dagen was still watching her like a hawk. He sensed her intel background in the question she gave but was still something he was happy to delve into. It gave his mind something more to ponder than to ravish her where she sat. He mentally shook his head. Where did that thought come from? “It was very busy,” he said, “ growing up. I had classes with the Institute around being a candidate for joining. I had training with the biathlon. I had school normally and then well, life outside of that that I could. “ The curve of her neck was so enticing. It simply welcomed a kiss. “ Uh,” he laughed and closed his eyes for a moment to center himself. “One time we had applied to an appliance company on mom’s behalf. Quality control tester. Grandfather and I did that. Oh did we get it! They called one day asking for an interview from her. She was so embarrassed. But she could break almost anything she handled. Boy she was hard on things.”

Reia laughed and finished her glass of wine.

“I would have been embarrassed too if I were her.”

“The funny thing was.. she was willing to take the job.” He chuckled as he swirled the wine and drank the last of it in a long gulp. Truly wine was lost on him. “She wanted to prove that she could get them to build something she couldn’t break. So she did it. Tried everything they made at home.” He laughed. “ And I kept fixing them.”

Succumbing to the temptation he leaned in to kiss the bridge of her neck and there to deeply inhale of her fragrance.

Reia squirmed slightly but in an altogether pleasurable way. The wine was good but Dagen’s company was even better.

“ I was busy growing up. My brother and sister had no desire to join so in a way my parents looked up to me to do it. I wanted it. I wanted it bad.” He caught her eyes as he took a drink. It wasn’t all he wanted. “I don’t know how it happened but I seem to squeeze a lot into that early life. Looking back now i don’t know how I did it.” He drank, chuckling. “ In a way it was all magical then. Perhaps it is just the memory of the time. You know. Everything looking rosy then. but it sure seemed it.” The way he was feeling she could ask him anything and he’d answer. He knew it was her pheromones and a lot of herself in there it all the same he didn’t much care. This was good.
Dagen

Reia had spent her Star Fleet career observing people and it naturally carried over into her personal life. She had a good idea of where Dagen’s head was at at that moment. She liked him and had great respect for him and was not the type of woman to abuse his state of mind even though she was very attracted to him as well.

“I didn’t have any siblings growing up. I’ve often wondered what that would have been like. Yes, you certainly did squeeze a lot into those early years didn’t you?”

“It is a blessing and a curse,” he said, sobered as he watched her refill the glasses.

She paused and refilled their glasses. They would either drink them or leave them on the table.

“They can be your greatest source of frustration or your most believed support. And sometimes both at the same time.” He took a big gulp out of the wine. “But it doesn’t matter because they are family. A part of you.” He paused. Before he could continue, if he was, she spoke.

“If you like, I won’t bring wine next time. I certainly wouldn’t want you to think that I’m trying to get you drunk and take advantage of you. I don’t think we need alcohol for that.”

Reia was in a good mood, relaxed, teasing, and eager to see where the night would take them.

  • Reia

Dagen laughed, his hand waving that held the glass. “You’d need more than one bottle with me,” he said. “ Back on 42 I got used to things a lot more potent than this wine.” He leaned in to kiss her then her neck again, inhaling purposefully. “ No, but it is an interesting mix,” he continued planting a playful bite on Reia’s shoulder. When he met her eyes again he too that time to study her more which was more of an appreciation of her beauty. “And I don’t think that you need to worry about taking advantage of me.” He didn’t finish the sentence. By Dagen’s thinking which admittedly was a tad clouded, she could do so anytime. “What was it like growing up for you?” He asked, sealing that question with a lingering soft kiss.
