She tasted good. She felt good. The kiss was like he was falling into a well. Surreal. But welcoming. Somewhere in the back of his mind he thought of Thor’s first host, the science officer. He had more than one stop at Orion and, somewhere in the back of Dagen’s mind was the sense that the sensations were the same as he felt then. Felt .. and rejected. She was more albino than Orion. And even if he was influenced, Dagen had to be honest, he didn’t care. When the kiss ended and she pulled back he only wanted to press in to have her.

Her question stopped him short. He had been running on instinct in the kiss. Instinct that demanded more. But this question. Where did that come from? He struggled to rein in his senses and his mind, though that was rapidly losing rational thinking. He was blaming it mostly on the XO’s bottle of whatever that was, but somehow, in his dwindling senses, he knew that didn’t fit well.

He took in her question. It rattled him. Honestly it struck him to his core. Yes. How he felt about the death of his brother, Howe he felt it was his fault. Of the way his sister left home and how much a failure he felt in not being able to find her and blaming himself for the break up of the family that had been so close. How he had relationship after relationship that was of one level or another and failed. All of it pointed to him. “Yes,” he said, huskily, his mind in a titanic battle with his senses that wanted her more than anything. She was close. She smelled so good. He inhaled deeply and his head swam. He leaned into kiss her again only to have that one more taste of her. Laboring, he saw her face and her expression. “Just say it,” he said, hoping that it was that she wanted him …

Reia watched Dagen, she regretted the question as soon as she had asked it. He was obviously a more complicated person than one might think and oh how she wanted him.

Over the years Reia had allowed herself several visits to Risa, and similar places, and the occasional short term casual relationship. They had always ended with someone, usually the male companion, unable to handle jealousy or other related emotions. She had even spent and interesting two weeks with a woman but that was not fulfilling in the way she had hoped it would be and, in the end, Chrisy had been just as jealous as any other man.

She appeared to be thinking and he strove to be patient, but like a sense of intoxication, even a short ‘wait’ seemed to be so much longer when more primal desires were battling to the fore. Fingertips touched her hair, fine and soft. That wasn’t helping his control. What did help was her internal battle to explain herself. Had he only thought he saw desire in her? Was the the only one affected by what was the summation of the evening? At last she spoke .. her lips so sensual .. no, Dagen, listen ..

“Dagen, I like you. I liked you at the party and I definitely like you right here, right now, on my couch. I need this moment just as much as I think you might. But I’m worried that the alcohol, and my pheromones, might be messing with your intellect. If you think that’s something you can handle then why don’t we go in the other room and I’ll show you my new Andorian Silk bed sheets?”

His mind swirled like a thick soup that was on the verge of bubbling over, holding for what seemed a long time with the words ‘like’ and ‘pheromones’ and ‘need’. His brain fired hot as they struggled to put all that she said together. It was only a few words but they contained a great deal. So he was right in the pheromones. So what? And yes, it was all messing with his brain and shelving his ‘reason’ in the wake of the tsunami of his desires. Could he handle it? He wanted to handle her. Just that thought made his body ache. Unable to easily contain himself he pushed back and launched off the couch a couple of steps. His calf hit the table and set the empty cup rattling. He closed his mind for a moment before replying.

“I .. I wondered.” As he looked at her his mouth felt dry. Nodding he took a moment .. only a moment to take this in. “And I don’t care.” Honestly, the pheromones and everything made him feel alive for the first time in a long time. Sure, he was sure that with all of this he could be brought to the thought of doing anything for the next such feeling, but that was not foremost in his mind but to be sorted out later. “I like you too Reia. And not just from tonight.”

That last bit even surprised her but, as she had been speaking, Reia never lost eye contact. She wanted to see ti all and understand as much as he could of his own thoughts. The rest could sort itself out int the morning.

He stepped in, the challenge accepted with a firm nod and a gaze that, if a little unfocused, was still focused on her. Intending to reach her hands to pull her up slowly, he instead found on taking her hands that he pulled with a greater force that brought her up against him, enclosed in his arms. “I can handle this,” he said, though knew that it was a double entendre.

With Reia’s body pressed against Dagen’s, she could feel he was handling the situation quite nicely. It didn’t take much to get them to her bed and his spots were definitely adorable.

It was three days later and Dagen was finalizing some of the details of the Engineering bash in the shuttle bay. Barbecues were utterly hands on affairs and so there was not going to be any more replicator use than was necessary to get the bulk materials. Tables and the likes, well, they were engineers and could improvise. The units themselves would not be enough to set off any fire suppression in the bay; they were used to much more heated temperatures and the like from shuttles of various conditions - not to mention being smart sensors combined with camera systems for a proper AI. The past three days had been active for him and not simply the BBQ planning. There were a number of intersections on dates for this and that monthly check coming due and needing to be scheduled and, while he delegated much of it it also meant that he had to read and sign off on the reports.

He paused and rubbed his face with his hands in a pause from reading a report about the tertiary plasma conduit stream from the impulse engines. Hands on. Was it three days since the party and the altogether too short a night with Reia? The thing about having a symbiot was that memories were all the more clear even when his veins were coursing with her pheromones. He woke that next morning with a light poke from Thor. Even before opening his eyes he knew that something was different. He smelled something faintly flowery mixed with a distant vanilla, his senses lightly buzzing still. Flashing images of the night before flew through his mind like a holo ad, one thing bumping up against another in a floodgate burst of memory. The feel of the sheets, the light sound of breathing beside him, the whisp of hair at his shoulder and smooth calf over his were evidence that this was not just a dream. That had lasted far too short a time; they both had shifts in not very many minutes. But before that explosion of activity to not be late - or too late - for shift, Dagen had rolled to be over her and looked into her eyes. “I want to see you again, Reia,” he said. “I’ll plan that ski holo,” he added with a smile. “With a more private hot spring I think.” It was tough to break away then but necessity drove that.

Now, days later when he had barely seen Reia for more than passing moments, but such was life on a starship. When they passed he could then sense the wisp of pheromones that brought back the night to him. The report blurred as he looked down, unfocused. With a sweep of the screen he pushed that file to the side and brought up the holodeck schedule and then added Reia to the invite. There he compared their schedules and the available time for the holodeck. It seemed that the nearest opportunity was two days away. That felt like a long time for him given his suddenly renewed longings thanks to reviving the memories of the days past. The holodeck booked he sent Reia a message.
HOLODECK BOOKED FOR SKI TRIP <DATE INSERTED> 15:00. SKI SNACK HOT SPRINGS. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. MISS YOU REIA.
