OOC: So for anyone new starting…Perkins is essentially a NPC anyone envision the way they want as an enemy or person to cause strife. Anything you create about him (ie: your feelings of anger, annoyance, loathing. etc) are allowed. Essentially Perkins is a group bad guy. McLaren is another NPC but the counter to Perkins. Whatever Perkins would do, McLaren would do the opposite. You are free to invent anything you want about these two men in a post. The only “guidelines” is Perkins is the bad guy and McLaren would be his good guy counterpart. Have fun and be creative if you want to use them. ~ KateThe conference room was set up with the typical pitcher of water and glasses sitting in the middle. This was due to Vanessa knowing a well taken sip of water might prevent a court martial when dealing with Admiral Perkins. She had arrived first and paced the room waiting for the others to arrive. Her meeting with Lt. Dean went as well as a fart in church as her grandmother used to say. Looking at the clock, she knew the rest of the crew would be arriving soon. This crew was punctual if nothing else. They were just hovering outside the coordinates Perkins sent making the man wait until the last possible second. The crew of the Genesis was many things but there were not lap dogs that came when some pompous Admiral snapped his fingers.
The long range scans showed that there was no one else in the space except the Genesis and the USS Relentless which was Admiral Perkins vehicle here. The scans would also show that the Relentless was running dark. There were only two reasons to run dark. The first was to sneak up on someone. The second was to hide from someone. Since Perkins had given the crew these coordinates specifically it was a good guess they were trying to hide from someone; however there was no one anywhere near here except the two ships.
Long range communications were also unique here. Short range were fine but the magnetic field of the gas giant lurking in the background created enough static that it essentially prevented any long range communications.
If one chose to sift through the multitude of files on Perkin’s they would find a man whose career was mottled with bad decisions and accusations but nothing ever stuck. His familial nepotism in the ranks shielding him from penal time which any other person in his position would be facing. Interestingly enough, he had just been appointed to the subcommittee for Starfleet Military Appropriations. Like all men that slithered into a position, there was one man that opposed Perkins. This man was Admiral McLaren. He too was on the subcommittee for Starfleet Military Appropriations and hated Perkins with the same passion others did. If one had to pick a side between Perkins and McLaren, most officers who held Starfleet and its ideal in high regard sided with McLaren.

Calvin walked into the room with a sour expression on his face. For the past three hours, everyone had been given the order to come up with a plan to thwart Perkins and help those they left behind on Beltran. Taking a seat
Calvin watched his counselor pace. “Take a seat Slade. A counselor pacing is not a good look.”Calvin Marius CO
Dagen followed shortly after. It hadn’t been a ‘busy’ past couple of hours. Running the engines hot was never a bad thing ‘to clean out the pipes’ as he had been told by an old engineer a century ago. It wasn’t like they strained the systems; in fact it had been kinda fun doing so. To thwart Perkins, however, meant that he had to know what it was they were thwarting, and that was rather fuzzy for him. He quietly found a seat, acknowledging the Captain and Counselor with a nod and tight smile.
- Dagen, CEMagnus sat down next to the Captain and crossed his legs with a smile “I don’t know, I’ve always found anxiousness soothing” He said in a light tone, the annoyance of their earlier meeting having faded away.
“I’ve never seen a more inept set of investigations in my life!” Thomas exclaimed as he walked in, one hand holding a PaDD, the other pulling at his hair. “This sleazebag should be in prison at least half a dozen times over, and yet somehow not only is he still at liberty, he’s a freaking senior Admiral?”
COS
“Because he is good at being a weasel and throwing anyone under the bus to make himself look good. We aren’t just going to hand over everything because some Admiral said so right,” Vanessa asked the group at larger. “He is essentially suggesting we take the shield technology and leave everyone on Beltran to fight it out to the death. We are going to disobey order right Sir?”
Vanessa Slade
Calvin felt a knot forming in is stomach. This wasn’t the first bad order he had ever been given or followed. “I tending towards it, but that might be part of the set up. Steal the tech and he gets what he wants, don’t steal the tech disobey orders and he gets us, which might be a pretty good consolation prize not to mention he might find someone else to get the tech and we lose twice.”
Calvin Marius CO
“I’d like to point out the technicality that Lieutenant Weaslington” He obviously meant Zachary Dean, his light tone as if his name was unimportant “Has already stolen the technology, which is where I think we’ll find most of our leeway” Magnus tapped his knee “The Admiral only gave us orders to meet with him at these coordinates, any orders regarding technological theft were given soley to the aforemention brig guest.” He had two ideas for how to deal with the situation, one was better suited, very sneaky and would perhaps work better. The other was barely an option, but it would be funny.
XO
“Can we put both of them on a shuttle with a busted transporter, insist that’s the only way the tech can be transferred, and if he takes the bait trigger the autopilot to fly them both into Gorn territory?” Thomas asked.
COS
“Yes yes,” Vanessa said snapping her fingers as if something came to mind she had forgotten. “These are all good ideas. Let’s keep them going. My only thought is to call the dock workers to handle this but we are a tad far from the whalers at the Boston harbor.”
Vanessa Slade CNS
“Dock workers?” well that was an uniquely American euphemism for the mafia. “Are you suggesting we kneecap an Admiral? Slade you are out of the planning process. XO…what have you got,” Calvin countered.
Calvin Marius CO
Magnus had been giving the Security Chief and counsellor a befuddled expression, the Security Chief for his inspired lunacy and the counsellor for, not for the first time, not making any sense… what did dock workers have to do with a plan, and were there whalers in Boston, were there any whalers left? He gathered that it must be a historical reference that went beyond him, so he simply shook his head, bemused, and turned to the Captain “It depends on what we wish to accomplish and what we do with our resident thief in the brig. My first idea is to add some sort of virus to the stolen plans, or change them into being useless, but that’s beyond my expertise and I’m unsure how quickly we can accomplish that”
Magnus interlocked his fingers “The second plan is less technical but far riskier. Deny, Deny, Deny. We meet with the admiral and simply deny that any theft took place, deny any knowledge of the theft and our possession of the plans. The short term is risky, but the long-term rewards are getting the Admiral to admit to giving illegal orders over an open channel or a recorded conversation, which we can use on Earth. It is far more politically risky and can impact careers.”
XO
The conversation ended abruptly as Admiral Perkins beamed onto the ship. His gaze traced each officer until it settled on that of the Captain. “I thought it would benefit the exchange for me to just take control of the data packet you brought me.” Glancing around the table, he made a tsk tsk tsk sound. “Don’t look so glum people. You have performed Admirably.”
“Thank you Captain,” he said taking the data packet beaming off the ship.
GM Kate
“Well,” Marius stared at the disappearing shimmer of lights that was the Admiral. “You’re Welcome, I guess.” He tilted his head at Magnus.
“The sooner we get away from him the better I’ll feel. Point the ship away from him, Maximum warp.”
Marius
“What a priobadh,” Thomas muttered. “Also, why did we just have that in here with us?”
