That’s alot of bumps.

Marius walked into the medical bay. The pristine white walls gleamed under the soft but bright lights. He canned the area, the multi-functional beds the tricorders were well kept and tended to.

“I have to be honest Dr. Logan, I usually don’t make house calls.”

Marius

OOC: trying to keep myself from going AWOL every three days.

IC: “Captain. Please come in. How can I help you sir?” She asked him with a look on her face. “Would you like anything to drink or something?” She asked him another question.

Marius tilted his head at her, “are you offering me alcohol?” He glanced about.

“Are you one of those old style ‘country’ doctors that hides a bottle of bourbon under your desk, ‘for medicinal purposes.’” He actually made the air quotes.

“Captain. Did you just quote a legendary doctor?” She asked. “I mean I might. But you didn’t hear it from. But anyways what can I do for ya?” She said to him. “Not that a bottle of bourbon is anything special. But I do need a drink. Would you like on sir?” She asked another question.

“I spent a lot of time reading and watching stories of the ‘Adventures of the Enterprise, so some of that stuff must have worked its way in there. What always bothered me the most was how most of the time they all would have been booted out of the fleet today.”

“Sure,” Calvin agreed to the drink. As to the question of why he was here, Calvin continued. “How did it go with the counselor? Is she willing to help out if needed?” Her file stated she held certifications as a nurse.

Ashley pulled to glasses out and bourbon. She then poured them a glass each. “Well, it got a little complicated. To be honest. I asked her to help and she said sure. But she also had brought up the fact that I stay here in sickbay to much and need to get out more. You know make some connections. Talk to other people. Have fun. You know. But the thing is. I’m someone who mainly focuses on my work then having fun. Is that a bad thing captain? Or should I be doing other things other than staying here in sickbay? But the problem is, as we both already know with how short staffed that I am, I stay here most of the time to make sure that things are clean and is in place. Let alone who knows if a member of the crew shows up and I’m not here. You know what I mean on that?” She asked the captain.

“So you want me to say that I don’t want you to work hard?” He questioned the framing of the question. “I think the counselor was probably responding to what you said the problem was, so the answer would be the opposite. Also, you actually don’t have to be in sickbay to respond to medical emergencies. Your physical presence is secondary to your availability. At best you can be on duty 8, 12 hours that means half the time, at best, you aren’t here… so what are you really trying to do?”

“I know I’m not typically always here. I may be at the holodeck or something I don’t know. But that’s all I really do. I go from my quarters to here. On my break I go to the mess hall. Then back here. After I am done with my shift I go to the holodeck and then back to my quarters. But that’s really all I do.” She said. Trying to explain it to the captain.

“That does sound a little boring for the life of a star-fleet officer, particularly the chief of medicine.” Calvin swirled his drink. “You didn’t say much about yourself and I know the holodeck can be fun, but there are many people who say that going to the holodeck alone is like drinking alone, in the long run not great for your mental health.”

“That I do agree. But however, everyone else is typically busy so I don’t usually bother others when they are busy. I want to respect that. Especially you folks on the bridge. That’s why I do what I do cause it actually allows me to let that stress out.” She started to explain. “I mean sure I could come to the bridge and hang out with y’all. But at the same time, I don’t want to get into the way at all.” She had added in.

“Yes but the cycle you are in is not doing you any good. You are lonely and want to socialize with the crew yet continually partake in solitary activities. In the Marines we call that trenching behavior. You need to get out of the trench which is your comfort zone. Don’t just sit and wait for life to happen to you. Make it happen. What is one thing you have always wanted to do but never have?” With the holodeck, pretty much any fantasy could be tried. The trick was actually getting out there and trying something. “Why don’t you run an open holodeck program? That way anyone that is interested in your interests can join and you will meet more crew?”

“You know something. That sounds great honestly. I’ll just as well do that.” She said with a smile. “Besides, we may not just crew members to each other but we’re also friends. And your just looking out for me. And I appreciate it. I’ll go and do that and see what happens.” She added.
