“We are fighting a two war front: The Volians and the Gorn. Our magnetic storms keep the Gorn at bay for the most part. Our orbital platforms with the holo technology tend to stop direct assaults because the Gorn can not locate them. They do however tend to take parasitic advantage of our population when it is sequestered behind household walls. We are able to contain the Gorn attacks,” Lago’s voice held the strain of those in charge when they had to make tough decisions. “However, between the two groups, the yearly attacks on our population remains stagnant and without significant growth.”The Gorn? Dagen glanced over at the XO. Was this new to him too? What happened to their ship? That transmission earlier only seemed to infer they were looking for them, not fending off Gorn. Development looked to be happening though, if not population, Dagen thought. Was that why they wanted Federation membership? To deter at least one of their ‘issues’?
Lago paused and took a deep breath. He was tired of King Artemis, but he was not a traitor. He was a military commander, and it was time to give some tactical information. “Not all our people die when the Volian’s attack. Some are taken and put into stasis. We are going to see if we can rescue them. We could use some help.”
GM Kate
‘Yup, definitely having nightmares after this,’ Thomas thought to himself. ‘Which means more time with the counselor, joy.’
Again he glanced toward the XO. He was the ranking person here, not Dagen, to decide such ‘help’. Of course he wanted to keep anyone from being in such ‘stasis’ whatever that meant when speaking of overenthusiastic rodents.
Reia hadn’t bothered to take an actual seat. She wedged her small frame somewhere near Dagen and stared at the flask Lago held as she listened to him intently. She wanted whatever the hell was in it. Reaching up she gingerly touched the knot that was beginning to form at the back of her skull and decided that might not be a good idea at the moment. This was sheer insanity. Leave it to a monarchy and military to truly frack things up.
- Reia, CIO/Comms
Dagen leaned over so that there was contact with Reia but still remaining somewhat professional. The adrenaline was subsiding of being a possible meal and a general weariness was overtaking him. They had met for the state dinner and then went on this tour. It was late and he was starting to feel it so a sit down as welcome. He let out an inadvertent yawn. He felt the day was going to just go on a little longer and hey, that was part of the ‘service’ no matter how used to regular shifts that one got. Maybe he was getting old or just out of practice on long days. Getting soft old man! he thought to himself.
- Dagen, CERail looked down at dagging inside. She knew what he was thinking because, either from concussion or sure fatigue, she was getting a little exhausted herself. Stimulants? Sign again she tightened her lips and narrowed her eyes of it. Being tired right now was absolutely out of the question.
“I could sure use a cup of whatever passes for coffee around here. And something for the back of my head.”
- Reia, CIO/Comms
The medic finished up with Dagen and moved to Reia. Running the Tricorder over her, she responded, “mild concussion. No wonder your head hurt.” Pulling hypo out of the bag, the medic injected her creating instant relief or at least the medic hoped so. They needed to all be on their game when the time came.

Dagen’s hand rose with a finger in the air. “Here too. Double shot.” The Gorn. Now that was a name that rarely came up in polite conversation. Mostly keeping to themselves the Gorn were quite off his sensor suite. It was in the mission briefing but mostly as a footnote as a reason for these people wanting to join the Federation. There was no reason at all for expecting them there. Dagen glanced over it but little more. This was a state dinner and negotiation and tour. Rodent swarms and Gorn were not on the docket.
- Dagen, CEMoving to a small overhead compartment, the medic pulled out a bottle that old-timers would call a medicinal remedy. “This will perk you up and is way stronger than the crap they serve at the palace.” Passing the bottle over to Reia, was a far more relaxed gesture than all the pomp and circumstance they had at the reception.
Ray took the bottle she was handed it. She hide it for several seconds, then took several large drinks. Smiling up at the man who had handed it to her she relaxed visibly.
“My savior.” She whispered.
- Sheleah, CIO/Comms
“We are coming up on the Volian den,” Lago stated. “Until now we have only conjecture and theories about what we are going to find.” There was a long pause as Lago debated his next words. “Is your captain still on the broadcast? Can he hear this conversation?”

=/\=What’s the situation=/\= Calvin asked. His XO was there according to the information he had. Calvin was tired of sitting in the dark and out of communication with his people.
Thomas tightened his grip on his weapon. He told himself the swarm was still miles away, but there was always the chance they’d left some behind to guard their food supply.

Tom was checking his load out. There wasn’t much as the affair was supposed to be a diplomatic mission so he only brought basic defense and first aid gear for those just in case moments. This was way beyond that but, at least he wasn’t doing this solo.”
- Tom, IntSec
“The situation is we are going to breach what we call the holding facilities of the Volians. No one has ever gone that far into their dens but it is time. We can no longer be the fodder for their civilization or the Gorn. We live by their leave like children who wake and sleep not worrying about their future from day to day. His excellency is happy with the way things are but the rest of us are tired of his lazy complacency.” What Lago was saying bordered on treason however he was no longer happy with the status quo. Too many of their people had died. It was time for it to end and with the help of the Federation, they might succeed at taking back their planet.
He was not sure how the Federation people with him would react to his comments. His eyes drifted over each one of their faces to see if he could discern their mood or emotions.
“Captain Marius can I count on the help of the Federation in this endeavor?”
Lago General of the Beltran Armed Forces
Calvin was in a rock and a hard place. WIthout a connection to the Genesis, he could not pull his people out. Refusing Lago meant his people could be left stranded. “Commander Petursson you are in command,” Calvin snapped abruptly. Just as he was about to add more the connection between them was cut off.

Dagen was half dozing. The hum of the shuttle was lulling him into sleep and his mind was on what they had gone through and what lay ahead with some thought on what people were saying. He was hoping for more of a briefing on just what ‘they’ were supposed to do. Go in with phasers blasting? He thought of an old holo he saw called the Matrix where the machines simply swarmed their way to overwhelm humanity’s defenses. Only in this case their small group was not a swarm and they could be heading into one. Rest when you can was advice given to him by an old engineer and, before that, with his olympic training. The commander was here and so he wasn’t the ranking person in charge and he wasn’t a combat specialist. He would (hopefully) be told what his part was. The small part of him that connected with Reia was almost too comfortable as he caught himself almost totally drifting off.
Then his head came up when he caught those words against the king. His eyes blinked open and he sought its source, then glanced to the commander then to Reia, this time with eyebrows rising. That was one of the first real statements of dissatisfaction against the ruling party he had heard. He could put it down to it being traveling into a combat situation which was perhaps unnecessary if action had been taken in the past. Would they get phasers? Stun he would suspect; it was not their part to go in blasting to kill when it was not needed - even with critters who wanted to have you for lunch.
“Is there a plan for this operation?” he asked. Besides being dropped in and hope for the best that is ..
- Dagen, CE
“We have been planning and training for this for the last three cycles. The science facility was working on creating a shield to hold them in place so that could not attack or at least bottleneck them for us to attack,” one of the soldier’s commented. “The problem is the shielding wasn’t ready when it was deployed.”
“Would you have had us wait for another three cycles and lose countless people,” the head Beltran scientist spat out. She had been very quiet since the military arrived but now there was pure venom in her voice.”
“No but I would rather no be forced to try and take them out instead of defending our people,” the officer snapped back.
“Enough,” Lago stated firmly. “What is done is done. Battles and babies come at their own times.”

OOC: I will leave space for people to respond but I am going to move the thread ahead a bit. Also if I have misplaced someone in this thread just add yourself to the correct group receiving equipment.~ Kate
IC: The vehicles moved along for another ten minutes before they came to an abrupt stop. Opening the doors the occupants saw that the smooth-walled passages they had taken to get here were absent. The vehicles had stopped because the tunnel had shrunk from ten feet tall and wide to only about three feet tall and wide. Entering it one would have to probably crawl on their hands and knees. Their would be enough space for the occupants entering to go two by two however this would give little room to move about once they all entered if they choose the two by two formation. If they choose to go single file, there would be more maneuvering room but only enough to spin about and retreat if needed. The passageway was dark and would need artificial lighting.
Lago’s exited the vehicle and began to pass out lighted helmets to only the security individuals that initially started with him. This would include the COS, and XO. Lighted helmets were not given or even offered to anyone who had initially went to the science facility. Beltran weapons were handed out to everyone that wanted one.
GM Kate
Thomas’ bad feeling got worse as the tunnel narrowed. Were the Volians capable of patiently marching in single-file through it and then marshalling into their swarm once it widened?
That would put them an intellectual level above the near-mindless drones they’d been portrayed as by the Beltrans. They might even be reasonable… or in league with the Gorn.
