Of in the distance a small rumbling could be heard. It would remind one of the sound of water rushing down a river but there was not an ounce of water in sight. If one used a tricorder, if they possessed one, they would see a hoard of the Volian’s moving towards their location. Since they were in a tunnel, they could move towards the sound or away from it.

GM Kate.

Reia blinked her eyes when Tom’s bright beam glanced across her vision. Listening carefully she could indeed hear, something, what was that?

“Ouch, that light. Does it have another setting? What the hell am I hearing? Yeah, three fingers babe.”

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

Dagen squinted in the sudden brightness. It almost seemed better with the dim phosphorescence as everything around that light dulled to a darker tone. “Tom? You got anything else in your pockets of holding there that can tell us what is coming?” It sounded like water. Did a dam break or the tunnels rupture the underside of a lake? If so they could not possibly outrun that. Outswim? Depended on tsunami or trickle. The echoes made it hard to tell where things were coming from. But it was either one way or the other.

Tom shook his head, “If there was something here I could connect to to get into their computer or surveillance systems I could access internal sensors, other than that I didn’t come with a tricorder with science or medical functions programmed in.”

  • Tom, IntSec

Dagen took that in and shrugged, wincing as his shoulder complained from the fall. “This was a diplomatic trip and not a full fledged away mission. Can’t expect everything.”

“Let’s head back that way. If that is water there may be a ledge or something. I’m not seeing anything here.”
- Dagen, CE

Barring no further information, he said, “Let’s go!” It seemed a bit futile in a way but perhaps they’d get lucky. Waiting only as long as it took Tom and Reia to get moving he jogged along behind, eyes scanning for anything where they could climb to or get behind or even some path that might lead them out of there.
- Dagen, CE

Reia side and put the pain to the back of her mind. That thing at the base of her skull was starting to ache slightly. Walking she was thinking, and listening. Something in the primitive part of her brain was telling her that was not water.

“Call it my primitive senses kicking in, or I’m from on Earth everything wants to kill you, I don’t think that’s water and I wish I was a fracking spider.”

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

The advanced comms system of the military allowed for person to person communication within a limited area. Unfortunately, the cave system they were in was causing a lot of interference. The message being received by the intended party might not be exactly like the message being sent however it was recieved.

=/\=McGre… to Fed… person…, you need to..... course,=/\= Thomas said, tapping his communicator and at least attempting communications. =/\=Repeat, you … to .... course.=/\=

The question would be whether the science team plugged in the word “maintain” or “reverse” into the blanks.

GM Kate

Tom looked at Dagen and Reia.

“Well, that wasn’t clear but, I think we have to go forward because there’s no way back.”

  • Tom, IntSec

OOC: Back from LOA ..
IC:

“It couldn’t have broken up in different places could it to fill in the sentence,” Dagen said dryly. “Reverse. Maintain. We don’t even have a course.” He could see Reia peering up longingly as if she wanted to climb, but the sounds were getting closer. “Was that even directed at us? It seemed more like a ship’s directive and we got caught in a blanket communication.”

As if in response to Tom’s question, a message from Surra, the CSO, came across their badges. It was slightly broken up from the mounds of earth over and around them but understandable. It would be expected that they could reply back to Surra since she opened the message to their comm badge. =^=Team at … science facility, this is Lieut.....Almikaz.... from....Genesis. Do you read me?=^= she said, her voice level, but her heart pounding. She waited, her fingers drumming lightly against the side of the console. It felt like an eternity, the uncertainty gnawing at her.

GM Kate

“That is more like it,” Dagen said. “Sort of.” Tapping his badge, he said, =^= Genesis this is Thor, Reia and Tom are with me. We were sucked into an underground passage underneath the science facility. Something else is down here. Can you give us direction with sensors to where we should go? Team extraction would be .. good. =^=
- Dagen, CE

Being the Comms officer, Reia wondered why she hadn’t started taking her communicator part to see if she can make it work better by now. Slow on the draw she decided that climbing the walls wasn’t going to happen so why not start on that?

  • Reia, Comms/CIO

Dagen tapped his foot. “For all their urgency they do seem to be taking their time. Are we down this deep the signal is having trouble?” If they didn’t have that lovely transporter inhibiting mineral here getting out would be easy peasy. So are they launching shuttles to extract them? What was the captain and others doing? Were they in the same boat as they? What happened to the others who were above? Did only their three take this great slide down into the depths? Were they chosen in that case? That could not have been accidental in that case. What was going on? Glancing to Reia who was fiddling with her badge, hoping he supposed to boost some power to it to get a clearer message out.
- Dagen, CE

Tom removed the cylinder from the back of the light and replaced it with another.

“Just in case we need something a bit more lethal.” he said, “I hope a broad spectrum toxin will work on whatever’s down here if it has ill intentions towards us. I’m really not interested in becoming something’s repast.”

  • Tom, IntSec

Reia scowled at Tom’s comment. She wasn’t used to the idea of becoming someone’s dinner either.

“I don’t suppose either one of you fine upstanding Starfleet gentleman have some explosives do you?”

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

“Just the sort of thing I keep in my shorts when on diplomatic envoys,” Dagen said with a wink. He thought that Tom’s last stand hope was too small to matter. Given the waves of those overgrown otters it didn’t seem that the first ranks going down would particularly help them more than a few seconds. “Let’s hope they have shuttles en route. A shuttle hovering overhead with pattern enhances should be able to overcome the natural inhibitor in the dirt here.” That was a hope but really, that or a rope lowered down would work too.

As they moved he looked about. Was this a natural cavern? Was it dug out with paws or something that the builders had carved out at some point? Were there any side passages or a grade or some way out?
- Dagen, CE

There....just a faint reading, but it was enough. =^= Thor, no exit confirmed. So find cover if you can. Stay out of sight until I can find a way out for you guys. I just need....a little time. I will use my tricorder to ping your comms and triangulate your position and then scan the area for any alternative routes, but I need you to hold position.=^=

The message from Surra was simple and efficient. The cavern walls did appear to be artificially made. Upon inspection it would appear that they were bore out of the dirt and rock very similar to mining equipment Starfleet or a construction company possessed. The tunnels were not massive but allowed everyone to walk two by two with some elbow room on the side. It would probably support a small two person vehicle but that would be pushing it.

GM Kate

=^= Seeking cover. Awaiting your message and extraction =^=

“Right all,” Dagen said looking at the tunneled out striations on the walls. They say hold position but then to find cover. “Eyes open. Rescue is coming but we need to find cover without going too far. Look around.” He saw that the walls were not ‘that’ wide here. “Tom, you take up the rear. Whatever you have there might buy us some time if we need to create a bottleneck.”
- Dagen

OOC: Kate, how many of us are there? Initially I thought it was just the three of us who had fallen, but did others of the local scientists slide down too? .. gene

Reia had been listening carefully. She usually didn’t let rank tell her whom should we doing what, but Dagen was her husband after all. She had decided that this time wouldn’t be any different.

“Right, let me scout up a few hundred meters. I’m an incredibly fast sprinter when I need to be. Don’t worry, I know how to turn tail and run. I want to get out of here just as bad as everybody else does so, let me go look for some cover and I’ll be back in a tick.”

Pretty tight to orders, Dagen’s mind raced on what Reia was saying. He didn’t like it. It made sense on a ‘what is there’ fashion rather than inching along, but still, it sounded like action was close. “That might not be a …” then she was off .. she always did that .. he sighed and watched her go.

Reia should have waited for the all clear or some type of acknowledgment but, she simply began sprinting. Hopefully she would find a side passage or some type of nook to hole up in.

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

Tom watched Reia sprint ahead then nodded at Dagen.

“Bring up the rear? No problem.”

Tom took off the overcoat of his dress uniform and made it into a makeshift bag and put several small ping pong ball sized rocks into it.

“If I run out of darts at least I’ll have some rocks to throw.” Tom said with a smirk.

  • Tom, IntSec

“We may be down to that,” he said to Tom. “Right all .. slow move in Reia’s direction. Hopefully she finds us a place to sit and wait to get out of here.”
- Dagen, CE

OOC: Kate I’m going to cross-post my comm in here, just let me know if that’s not allowed.

IC: =/\=Thor, Almikraz, this is McGregor. The XO and I are with a Beltran military unit en route to your position. Hold position if possible.=/\=

COS

=^= Thor here. If you can lock onto Reia’s comm signal. She is ahead and we’re en route to join her. =^= Dagen replied with some angst. What a time for her to run off? Even if it was well meaning.

“Right you heard that. Let’s double time to catch up with Reia.”

Tom nodded and slung his bag of rocks over his shoulder with one hand and carried the pistol/flashlight in the other.

  • Tom

=^= Thor to Reia. Hold position. McGregor and the XO are enroute to us. We’ll join you. They are searching for your signal. =^=
    - Dagen, CE

Reia should have known not to go walking off, it always happened like that. Sighing she hit her comms

=^=Of course they are, but you realize if I hadn’t have taken this little walk we’d be stuck there for hours right? Got it, I’ll stay here.=^=

  • Reia, CIO/Comms
