Of in the distance a small rumbling could be heard. It would remind one of the sound of water rushing down a river but there was not an ounce of water in sight. If one used a tricorder, if they possessed one, they would see a hoard of the Volian’s moving towards their location. Since they were in a tunnel, they could move towards the sound or away from it.

GM Kate.

Reia blinked her eyes when Tom’s bright beam glanced across her vision. Listening carefully she could indeed hear, something, what was that?

“Ouch, that light. Does it have another setting? What the hell am I hearing? Yeah, three fingers babe.”

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

Dagen squinted in the sudden brightness. It almost seemed better with the dim phosphorescence as everything around that light dulled to a darker tone. “Tom? You got anything else in your pockets of holding there that can tell us what is coming?” It sounded like water. Did a dam break or the tunnels rupture the underside of a lake? If so they could not possibly outrun that. Outswim? Depended on tsunami or trickle. The echoes made it hard to tell where things were coming from. But it was either one way or the other.

Tom shook his head, “If there was something here I could connect to to get into their computer or surveillance systems I could access internal sensors, other than that I didn’t come with a tricorder with science or medical functions programmed in.”

  • Tom, IntSec

Dagen took that in and shrugged, wincing as his shoulder complained from the fall. “This was a diplomatic trip and not a full fledged away mission. Can’t expect everything.”

“Let’s head back that way. If that is water there may be a ledge or something. I’m not seeing anything here.”
- Dagen, CE

Barring no further information, he said, “Let’s go!” It seemed a bit futile in a way but perhaps they’d get lucky. Waiting only as long as it took Tom and Reia to get moving he jogged along behind, eyes scanning for anything where they could climb to or get behind or even some path that might lead them out of there.
- Dagen, CE

Reia side and put the pain to the back of her mind. That thing at the base of her skull was starting to ache slightly. Walking she was thinking, and listening. Something in the primitive part of her brain was telling her that was not water.

“Call it my primitive senses kicking in, or I’m from on Earth everything wants to kill you, I don’t think that’s water and I wish I was a fracking spider.”

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

The advanced comms system of the military allowed for person to person communication within a limited area. Unfortunately, the cave system they were in was causing a lot of interference. The message being received by the intended party might not be exactly like the message being sent however it was recieved.

=/\=McGre… to Fed… person…, you need to..... course,=/\= Thomas said, tapping his communicator and at least attempting communications. =/\=Repeat, you … to .... course.=/\=

The question would be whether the science team plugged in the word “maintain” or “reverse” into the blanks.

GM Kate

Tom looked at Dagen and Reia.

“Well, that wasn’t clear but, I think we have to go forward because there’s no way back.”

  • Tom, IntSec

OOC: Back from LOA ..
IC:

“It couldn’t have broken up in different places could it to fill in the sentence,” Dagen said dryly. “Reverse. Maintain. We don’t even have a course.” He could see Reia peering up longingly as if she wanted to climb, but the sounds were getting closer. “Was that even directed at us? It seemed more like a ship’s directive and we got caught in a blanket communication.”

As if in response to Tom’s question, a message from Surra, the CSO, came across their badges. It was slightly broken up from the mounds of earth over and around them but understandable. It would be expected that they could reply back to Surra since she opened the message to their comm badge. =^=Team at … science facility, this is Lieut.....Almikaz.... from....Genesis. Do you read me?=^= she said, her voice level, but her heart pounding. She waited, her fingers drumming lightly against the side of the console. It felt like an eternity, the uncertainty gnawing at her.

GM Kate

“That is more like it,” Dagen said. “Sort of.” Tapping his badge, he said, =^= Genesis this is Thor, Reia and Tom are with me. We were sucked into an underground passage underneath the science facility. Something else is down here. Can you give us direction with sensors to where we should go? Team extraction would be .. good. =^=
- Dagen, CE

Being the Comms officer, Reia wondered why she hadn’t started taking her communicator part to see if she can make it work better by now. Slow on the draw she decided that climbing the walls wasn’t going to happen so why not start on that?

  • Reia, Comms/CIO

Dagen tapped his foot. “For all their urgency they do seem to be taking their time. Are we down this deep the signal is having trouble?” If they didn’t have that lovely transporter inhibiting mineral here getting out would be easy peasy. So are they launching shuttles to extract them? What was the captain and others doing? Were they in the same boat as they? What happened to the others who were above? Did only their three take this great slide down into the depths? Were they chosen in that case? That could not have been accidental in that case. What was going on? Glancing to Reia who was fiddling with her badge, hoping he supposed to boost some power to it to get a clearer message out.
- Dagen, CE

Tom removed the cylinder from the back of the light and replaced it with another.

“Just in case we need something a bit more lethal.” he said, “I hope a broad spectrum toxin will work on whatever’s down here if it has ill intentions towards us. I’m really not interested in becoming something’s repast.”

  • Tom, IntSec

Reia scowled at Tom’s comment. She wasn’t used to the idea of becoming someone’s dinner either.

“I don’t suppose either one of you fine upstanding Starfleet gentleman have some explosives do you?”

  • Reia, CIO/Comms
