“Easy there Lt.,” Calvin stated catching her fist instead of just deflecting it. A small twitch occurred at the edges of his mouth as he noted her first reaction was to come out swinging instead of talking. It probably had something to do with living with nine brothers. Brothers could be idiots just on principle or maybe it was just an overactive fight vs flight response. As Vanessa woke up her hand immediately moved up to her face towards her temple. “Fah me,” she mumbled out knocking the device from her face. Feeling someone next to her, Vanessa immediately balled up her fist and swung as hard as she could toward where she thought the person’s face was. She had no desire to wake up again with Prune Face barking out orders. Her head was pounding as if she had just woken up from an epic shore leave on Risa.
Lt. Vanessa Slade CNS
Given the captain’s condition Dagen was pretty impressed with his ability to catch the swing. Reflex perhaps?
“Can you stand?” His comment was not meant to be callous but instinct from his Marine training. Staying in one place too long never was a good thing. While he was not too concerned with the minimal security he found so far, Calvin needed his two officers on their feet to test out a hypothesis that was trying to form in the middle of the migraine pounding in his brain.
“Yes sir,” Vanessa replied slowly swinging her feet over the side of the bed feeling slightly woosey as if she had just woken up from a hangover. The headache she was feeling was considerably less than what her CO and the CE seemed to be experiencing. The sharp pain was like that of a pin prick and starting to fade.
“Are you alright sir,” she focused her attention on Calvin. “Looks like you might need to lay down.”
“Five by five, Vanessa.” His voice sounded low, slow, perhaps tired?
Waiting for the two women to wake up or react, they may or may not have been looking at the monitor above the bio beds showing the device seemed to be taking readings from the Temporal lobes of the two women’s brains.

At one point Dagen did glance up and saw that there was scanning happening. He could get that far in his thinking, however with the pounding in his own head and his not being a medical practitioner - any memories he had from Thor’s host would be sadly out of date - so his own sense that ‘something was happening’ was about as far as he went on that. “Something’s happening,” he said, speaking of the scans and the needle retraction.
- Dagen CE“Is Reia waking up,” Calvin asked hoping her reaction was the same as Vanessa only less combative.
Calvin Marius CO and GM
“She’s a pretty heavy sleeper,” Dagen said, not relishing a swing from her Orion side. “Hang on.” He leaned and whispered “Morning sunshine,” in her ear, something familiar to Reia and hopefully one that would not instill a reaction.
- DagenReia screamed out, in pleasure or in pain one couldn’t be certain. Blindly she turned and reached for the familiar voice. She must have grabbed something of her husband’s. Pulling him closer to her she whispered horsley…
Dagen winced at the scream that was not far from his ear then grunted as her grip confirmed her blind aim was a little too good. Her whisper was none too much of a whisper to Dagen and he was ever reminded that his wife had little respect for time and waking her was often an experiment in being late for shift or nearly so.
“Bring me some coffee and climb into bed, you know how to make me feel better wild man.”
- Reia, CIO/Comms
“Not tonight dear, I have a headache,” he said with a grimace from now multiple pains competing for attention. Were he a hologram or projection he sure felt that all this was real. It seemed utterly surreal that he may not be real but the heat from Reia and how her breath tickled his whiskers made it feel all so real. “The Captain is here and needs us, love.” Whether that would snap her to attention he wasn’t sure .. or at least more awake. What would she think of the two of them looking more zombie like than real at this point.
- DagenThat didn’t make any sense to Reia. What her thoughts immediately went to was something she and Dagen had never discussed, there were absolutely no safe words or no rules involved in what her mind went to. Had they even discussed such a scenario before? Sighing she put a hand on her head which was hurting once again and fell back on the bed. Opening her eyes she looked around.
“What the hell are you talking about? Oh damn, my head. What’s going on?”
- Reia, CIO/Comms
“That is a good question,” Vanessa stated looking around the room. “It looks like we are in some kind of medical facility. Stay here,” she squeezed the Captain’s hand. “I will go have a look around and see if I can get us some help.”
Vanessa Slade CNS
“Be careful,” Calvin replied as he watched Vanessa move from the row of beds she, Reia, and the engineering officer occupied. Turning, he touched the device on Bailey’s forehead. Now that he knew how to wake up his crew, he was hell-bent on waking them all up and getting the hell out of there.
It was only about thirty seconds before he heard Vanessa yelp slightly and the sound of metal clanging to the floor that had been knocked over in some way.
Calvin Marius CO and GM
The sound of clanging metal snapped Reia back into hyper-focused reality. Everything else that had gone on settled to the back of her mind for further analysis at a later time. Swinging her feet over the bed, she stood and gauged her readiness for a few seconds before taking off after Vanessa.
“Now hold on there, you should have known better than to go alone. I’m on your six.”
She began following Vanessa at a rapid Pace while still registering her body’s own aches and pains.
- Reia, CIO/Comms
Hearing her friend approaching, Vanessa spoke. “Um Reia? How are they here,” she pointed to the bed, “and over there,” she hooked a thumb over her shoulder at Thor and Calvin. The shock of seeing the two men lying on the bed in a comatose state was more than unnerving.
Vanessa Slade CNS
“It seems,” Calvin started to explain taking a few steps forward before the pain in his temple exploded into skull-splitting agony that caused his knees to buckle and almost drop him to the floor. It seemed the closer he got to his sleeping body, the more intense the pain became. Testing the theory, he retreated a few steps back until his back touched the bed Vanessa had been occupying. The pain was still there but lessened some.
Calvin Marius CO and GM
Reia looked around and watched as the scene played out. This was turning into a house of holographic horrors or something. She would definitely be glad to get out of this particular situation. She watched as Calvin went to his knees. Yikes, perhaps it would be a good idea if she didn’t run across her sleeping form.
“I hope it’s only some type of holographic projection. Other thoughts in my mind are just too scary.”
- Reia, CIO/Comms
“I don’t know,” Vanessa stated and poked the Calvin lying unconscious in front of her on the cheek. “I think this one is real. He is warm and squishy.” Taking her fingertips, Vanessa smooched his cheek around his face. “Do you feel that Sir,” she asked looking back over her shoulder.
Glancing up she noticed the person in the bed net to Calvin in the same condition was a dead ringer for the CE. “Um Reia,” she gestured at the “sleeping CE” next to the “sleeping CO”.
Vanessa Slade CNS
The sour look Calvin gave his counselor was far more polite than the words rolling about in his head. His mind, trying to figure out how he could feel on his face with Vanessa across the room, stopped him from speaking. It was as if she was standing before him squishing his cheeks instead of a few feet away.
Calvin Marius CO and GM
All Reia could do was bite her lip, her thoughts were so inappropriate at the moment. There in the bed lay her sleeping, unsuspecting, defenseless husband. Never mind that this was a life on the line situation, Reia was truly an evil woman at heart. She couldn’t, she just couldn’t. Leaning down she brushed the hair back from his forehead and laid a gentle kiss on it instead. She did manage to find her favorite spot though.
- Reia, CIO/Comms
Dagen had been quiet. The Captain may have had more stamina in that way but his head was pounding. Relieved at Reia recovering and so fleet of foot at taking off down the line he leaned against the bed feeling his heart match the pounding in his head. He couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to the ‘other’ Reia who was out there somewhere in the simulation. It was at that point that he saw Reia stop at a bed. He couldn’t see who was there but by the mischievous look in her eye that he just managed to catch he could guess.
“Love,” he said from where he was. Two of them there now. “Wake me up.” He knew that was going to be so .. weird .. and strangely like some kind of death, or would it be like waking from a dream? What a dream? Then a thought came to mind.
Then to the Captain he said, “Sir I don’t know if we have much time. With Reia and Vanessa and others awake they likely disappeared from the simulation or whatever it is. They know we’re here.”
Dagen, CEReia glanced back and forth between the two Dagens. Oh what an interesting situation this was. She had it in her mind to be a good girl, or a very very bad girl. This was really no time to be a bad girl though so she merely sat down on the bed next to Dagen and took his hand. Leaning forward she kissed him on the forehead. There were a few spots that seemed to be a little more sensitive than others and finding one usually put him on a slow wakeful trajectory.
- Reia, CIO/Comms
“Agreed. Lt. Slade and Reia, I need you to do something for me.” While it had worked, there was some weird karma with him freeing the counselor and now the counselor releasing him from whatever it was. It was a gamble when he removed the device from her and hopefully it would be as smooth for him.
“Um okay,” Vanessa stated slightly hesitantly. It was almost surreal looking at Calvin being sound asleep on the bed and wide awake talking on the other side of the room.
“The monitor over my eyes,” Calvin stated pulling himself up onto the bed. “Near the temple, there is a switch. I need you to find it and flip it. Do me first and then the CE.” Lying down he waited. With his body on one bed and his other body on the other bed, they would get to see firsthand what happened when they deactivated the device.
“Looking over at his CE, Calvin said dryly, “I am only doing this once so make sure you are taking notes.”
Calvin Marius CO and GM
“Um okay then what is going to happen to this you?” Vanessa poked Calvin in the side several times. People joked all the times about how to tell their doppelganger apart if you ever needed to decide but Calvin’s doppelganger seemed to be sound asleep.
Vanessa Slade CNS
A grunt escaped Calvin as he felt Vanessa poke his body in the side. “Are you F@ckin@ kidding me Slade, I am not the evil twin trying to take out the good captain. I am the captain and giving you an order” he growled.
In the darkness, Calvin could not see her wrinkle up her nose irritated at her CO but in fairness, she was poking at him pretty hard and she was secretly worried about the doppelganger thing. If she picked the wrong one, no one would forgive her. It also looked particularly bad on an eval to state you killed your Captain even if it was in the line of duty. Opening her mouth, Vanessa meant to pose one more question before Calvin somehow knew she was about to do it.
Before she could respond he replied for her. “You might be the counselor but I also know my people.” Closing his eyes, he waited for Vanessa to comply with his order.
“Fine but if I kill you I do not want it to go on my permanent record,” she stated like most women needing the last word of any conversation.
Several seconds later he felt a blinding pain in his temple. Much like an ice pick being driven into his brain before it vanished as fast as it started along with the pounding migraine, he was suffering from only a moment before.

OOC: So .. out of curiosity here what happens with the two Dagen’s before Reia’s imagination takes over? <G> .. Gene
As the device fell from his face, Vanessa bit her lip. Nowhere in any manual had they covered something like this. “Still with me Captain,” she asked tentatively.
Vanessa Slade CNS
Unlike Vanessa who woke up throwing a right hook moments before, Calvin simply opened his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. Sitting up slowly he looked across the space. It was a bit surreal but also reassuring to not see a second version of him lying on the bed where Vanessa and Reia had woken up.
From Dagen’s point of view, the Calvin Marius he arrived with after traveling down the rabbit hole had evaporated no different than any hologram on a holodeck.
Calvin Marius CO and GM
OOC Pasting in for consistency ..
Glancing over where Dagen was Vanessa saw that the bed that once held the CO was not empty. “What the hell,” Vanessa stated moving back rapidly knocking over the bedside table with a loud clang as she sucked in a breath. Looking at Calvin, she tried to get her bearings seeing the CO now gone and the other woman waking up. “Ummm howya doin’ there cappy? Any tyrannical or maniacal thoughts yet?” It was a reference to the evil captain comment earlier and until Vanessa figured out what to say or think right now it was all she had.
Vanessa Slade CNS
Dagen watched the holo-Calvin disappear and felt a momentary pang of panic in him. That was soon to be him .. what will he remember? Now that being said he had not been a holo-Dagen that long to have developed much separate personality or memories to be more than a strange bizarre curry inspired dream. Still it was .. disconcerting. But at least the real Captain woke immediately. He supposed it was Reia’s turn to do this .. or could he turn himself off. Perhaps he could if he could get past the splitting headache that was happening ..
- DagenDespite how it might look from the outside, Reia had actually been paying attention to everything Vanessa had been doing. After making certain that her Captain wasn’t going to disintegrate or other some such malady she took a deep breath and followed Vanessa’s example.
Dagen’s eyes opened and utter disorientation met him. He was looking up at Reia. A moment ago he had been looking across at her. His head turned about to where he was and saw nothing. The upside was that there had been a quick lessening of the pain in his head such that he didn’t feel like throwing up at the movement. He groaned as he got his bearings and tried to remember what had been happening. How does a hologram escape a holodeck through a rabbit hole anyway? Another thought for another time as he focused again on Reia. “So .. any different in groping a hologram, my love?” he said trying to move.
“Come on, rise shine and growl sweetheart.”
- Reia, CIO/Comms
“Growl indeed,” he said. “I’m hungry. I was in engineering. Then I was being transported. Then I was a mechanic. And now I’m here. That should be enough for one day.” He looked at her. “I miss that maid uniform on you though.”
- Dagen, CEReia laughed and stepped aside for him to get up.
“Yeah, keep missing it sweetie. So, think you can put away six to eight plates like you did when we were on holiday? Once this lot is over I think everybody will be in the mood to do something similar. I sure know I am.”
- Reia, CIO/Comms
Dagen groaned. “And I paid for it after,” he said. “Should have been drinks.” He sat up slowly to gauge his state - would he be nauseous or dizzy or what? Apart from a latent headache where that implant was he seemed okay. Rubbing that spot he winced. Swinging his legs over the edge of the bed he gave himself another moment for orientation then slid off to the ground. “So far so good.” He focused on his wife and mentally superimposed that maid outfit and different hair style that she had then. “We need to go back to the short skirt uniforms. Kirk’s era had it good.” He knew that would get a swat as every mention of that era did. How could he help it that Thor’s first symbiot, Surrel, had been on a ship in that era and lived through that challenging and distracting time.
“Captain?” he asked. “Where to now? Shut down this simulation - somehow - or get out of here?”
- Dagen, CE
