As Surra’s shuttle gently glided into one of the docking bays on the colossal USS Genesis, her heart raced with a sense of exhilaration. This was more than just another assignment; it was a homecoming to her true calling. Her journey as a counselor had been fulfilling in its own right. She’d served in that capacity on the USS Ogawa and temporarily on the USS Leviathan, but there was an undeniable yearning within her for the realm of science, a yearning that had been ignited during her early days as a Science Cadet aboard the USS Discovery.

As the shuttle’s doors hissed open and she stepped onto the metal gangway, clutching her Starfleet-issued duffle bag, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia. Memories of her time as a Science Cadet flooded her mind, and she realized that this was her opportunity to rekindle her passion for exploration and the intricate art of deciphering the algorithms hidden within the vast ocean of scientific data.

With unwavering determination, Surra activated her personal interface, and the ship’s schematics unfurled before her on her holoscreen. Her first destination was crystal clear – the Medical area. It made sense to complete her medical examination first, ensuring she was fit for the new role she was about to embrace. But she had more than a medical checklist in mind; she had an entire strategy mapped out within the recesses of her thoughts.

Upon arriving at the medical bay, Surra couldn’t suppress her anticipation any longer. She strode inside, her presence radiating an unmistakable sense of purpose. “Hey, guys!” she exclaimed, her voice resonating with a mixture of excitement and confidence, announcing her arrival to the medical staff. She wanted to make a memorable entrance and establish herself as a dynamic addition to the crew from the very beginning. “Anyone got time to conduct a medical examination on the ship’s new Chief Science Officer?” Her question hung in the air as she waited for her reply to come.

The doctor came out and noticed someone standing in her med bay. “Well hello. I didn’t notice you coming in. Please sit down.” She said with a smile and directed the young Chief Science Officer to a biobed.

Surra nodded appreciatively and took a seat on the biobed, her eyes scanning the medical bay with curiosity. The hum of medical equipment and the faint scent of antiseptic triggered more memories from her cadet days. “Thanks for having me, Doctor. I’m eager to get started, but I know the drill…have to be cleared medically first.” she said, her eyes flickering with a spark of enthusiasm. Since she was excited, she felt chatty and continued. “So.. what’s it like to work on the Genny? I hope I can bring a fresh perspective to the science department and contribute to the ship’s success. By the way, any interesting stories from the medical bay you’d like to share?”

Walking around the room, no one seemed to pay any attention to Reia no more than the other waitresses, bartenders, or maids moving about the space. In the corner, Reia would see the two men who had just left her on the patio, lounging in two chairs and chatting amongst themselves.

Standing there, Reia would feel a pressure on her arm as if someone had grabbed it but no person was around her. She was at least five feet from any individual in the party at the moment she would have felt someone touch her arm.

“Well. There’s really nothing really. Sadly enough. But however you should be able to bring a good perspective to the science department.” She said.

Surra leaned back on the biobed, crossing her legs as she continued the conversation. “Nothing exciting, huh? Well, I guess every ship has its quiet moments. Maybe you are right, the Genesis needs a bit of my adventurous spirit,” she said with a playful grin.

Her eyes wandered around the medical bay again, stopping at the rows of neatly organized instruments. “Although I have heard that the ship has been on some interesting missions, though.” She gazed at the CMO and asked, “How long you been on the Genny? That is what you call the ship, the Genny, right?”

She couldn’t help but wonder about the untold stories that might be hidden behind the sterile walls of the medical bay.

“Yes very much so Lieutenant.” She said looking away embarrassed.

Surra couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment at the CMO’s response. It seemed like her attempt to spark a conversation about the ship’s adventures wasn’t gaining much traction. Still, she maintained her friendly demeanor, leaning forward slightly as she spoke.

“Ah, well, I suppose every crew member has their own experiences on board,” Surra remarked, trying to keep the conversation going. “I’ve only been on the Genesis for a few days myself, but I’ve already heard some intriguing tales from the other crew members. It must be fascinating, being part of the medical team and seeing the aftermath of these missions firsthand.”

She glanced around the medical bay again, her curiosity piqued.

“That I agree. I however, have been on for about a year now and I know done of them.” She had mentioned to the Lieutenant smiling.
