Side Sim - Dagen and Reia's Quarters - Christmas Stuff

snipReia sighed and released her husband. She walked over to the replicator and produced two large barbecue samplers and several sauces ranging from sweet to inferno Klingon heat. Setting them on the table she sat down and waited for him to join her.
With a wry smile Dagen joined her. He thought to ask if there was any there for him or if she was going to eat it all. With a glance at the other room and his small unruly ‘pile’ there he turned his attention to eating and, engineering speaking, whether Reia had mixed up the sauces for a ‘pot luck’ kind of trial and error or if there was something there that was in order of heat. Well, there were fire suppressing stations nearby if he got the wrong one.
“Now love, I am aware of your loose definition when it comes to packing. So I’m going to issue this strong, very strong warning, my grandparents replicator is not the most reliable thing you will run across. And if you think about trying to fix it don’t unless Gramps gives you permission or he will see that as an affront to his manhood. Pack extra. Trust me you will thank me for being a nag about it.”
Dagen was about to say he’d bring some tools along but all he got was his mouth open to say it when Reia carried on. Instead he popped a bit of meat randomly dabbed into his mouth to at least try to cover up his abortive response. Maybe he should ask about the model and he could bring some components along. Even growing up Dagen was the fixer given that his mother couldn’t seem to work something electronic without doing something to it either programming wise or mechanically. Even years later he was put to work when he went home. He did like to help and it gave him something to do; most of his boyhood friends had moved off so visiting and the likes was limited to relations. He was gregarious but even that could be too much and a little one on one with something mechanical was a good way to recharge. “Ummm ..” was about all he got out as his mind roamed to how he might inadvertently help without seeming to help.
As Reia calmly spoke she proceeded to tear into a rack of very meaty ribs. By the time she had finished with her calm explanation her mouth and fingers were covered in a delightful Red barbecue sauce and she looked quite fiendish.

“Next Halloween party we’ll have this as a kind of pre-party rib party. Everyone will look the part,” he commented. “You’re going to have to help me to keep my hands busy on that trip, love. I fear they’ll be all twitchy with things to fix around there.” He waggled some less fiendish fingers while trying to think too on what ‘extra’ she meant on what to bring.
- DagenReia laughed and licked her fingers. She glanced at the time and realized just how late they were. Shuttles could wait especially when she and Dagan were doing the piloting, but schedules for schedules. Bouncing to her feet she pivoted and went to the bedroom to finish her packing. If Dagen didn’t follow suit quickly, she would probably finish his too.
Someone is pretty excited about the trip, Dagen thought as he watched Reia speed through the platter and head off only looking slightly less ghoulish. With a glance at the chrono he knew time was ticking down to departure and schedules were schedules. He had best look into it himself lest Reia do ghastly things with his packing, like fold clothes and other organizational things. Idly as he finished he pondered what a twitchy replicator did in their case .. ask for a coffee and it gives you an omelette kind of thing or just mashed everything into looking like a blob of oatmeal. He supposed he would find out. After a quick wash he joined her in packing.
“Right right, Halloween rib party it is next year. So, are these all the clothes you’re packing? Don’t worry love, I have the model number of that replicator stored somewhere just in case you and Gramps get on as famously as I think you will. As far as keeping those hands busy yeah I think we can cover that too. Hurry up sweetie I think we’re due to leave in about a half hour. Shall I fix you a platter for the road?”
Finding a couple other odds and ends .. couple tunics, pair of pants, socks he tossed them on the pile only thinking after whether the socks actually matched. The pile in his case was to capacity .. in passing her she had idly mentioned something about keeping his hands busy so he gave her a playful squeeze as he passed by to the latrine to gather things that he otherwise would have replicated on arrival. So much perhaps for his programmed replicator isolinear that had set with ‘travel’ packs like these. “Uh, no, thanks. I should be good. Some chips will do the trick. You may want a platter lest you try to eat the pilot.”
Reia asked all of this in fits and starts over her shoulder through the bedroom door as she began tucking things away in her suitcase. She was a bit nervous seeing Gram and Gramps after so many years. Going home was always a little complicated for her. Nevertheless, she was very excited to have them meet her husband.

The ‘weather’ should be fine he was told but as an afterthought shrugged on a regulation jacket that was a good general all purpose thing. He can always roll it up as a pillow on the way if need be. Extended time on a planet where he was not taking a course. THAT would be different and he found himself more anxious about time on a world than meeting new people. He would be himself and they would hopefully be fine with that. No point in putting on airs or another personae. Reia had said much about them here and there if one could piece all the snippets together to form an idea of them. He thought she was the more nervous one of the two but then she had him to present, that Trill wildcard. Cramming that last piece into the straining case he virtually had to sit on it to close the clasps. Fortunately 25th Century hinges and clasps were sturdy - at least until they went through luggage handling. Dagen always figured they employed Klingons and Orions to work the luggage. At the last snap he said, “Ready.”

Reia looked at both of their bags and saw the vast difference in what he had packed, and what she had packed, definitely time to let him at that replicator. Glancing around she made one last check of their quarters and thought if there was anything at all either one of them had forgotten. Too late now. Hefting both bags she made her way towards the door. Certainly she could have let him carry a bag or two but for now physical exertion was her form of distraction.
“So, I’ve plotted out a few courses and sent them to the shuttle. Just pick the best one and get us there love. I promise I will probably stop being nervous by the time we get there.”
