The transporting beam felt different this time only because there was a distinct absence of gravity when everyone materialized. There was also a sense of velocity due to the small amount of gravitational pull from the moon which immediately caught the insertion team the second they materialized. The pull would rapidly bring the team to the planet’s surface but depending on their actions it could be a very hard and abrupt landing.

GM

Tom brace himself in positioned to do a parachute fall if necessary upon contact with the ground. He watched the approach so to speak to gauge speed and distance.

  • Tom, IntSec

Magnus almost cackled as they fell, there was nothing like the exhilaration of an orbital drop assault, something he hadn’t done in nearly twenty years. He braced himself for a tuck and roll landing, using the Suits boosters to slow his descent.

XO

OOC: Changed the threads name instead of making a new one. - Hjortur

The descent from the ship to the moon’s surface was as rough or gentle as the men’s expertise. None of the portions of the orbital jump was easy nor was the landing. The lack of injuries was based on the years of training for each man. What they did not know nor could expect was the ground was not where it was expected to be. Their eyes were telling them that they had 50 meters to the surface of the moon but their sensors were flashing it was less than 20 meters and stating emergency status to open up their deceleration mechanisms.

GM

‘The hell?’ Thomas thought. The transporter chief had been sure he was putting them 20 meters out, and that’s what his sensors agreed with, but why did the moon seem so much further away?

To be safe, he triggered his thrusters to slow his descent, doing his best to ignore the jerking feeling in his stomach.

COS

Magnus shared McGregor’s sentiments although without comms active he didn’t know that, although his curses were in a different language and slightly to incredibly fouler. He trusted the sensors and activated his thrusters as well hoping that would signal the others to do the same, he didn’t want to lose any focus and check beyond seeing that they were all there. They hadn’t reached terminal velocity which was good because they would have been crushed in under half a second if that were the case. He prepared his legs for the landing and potential roll to lower the force of his landing, this would be an awkward time to shatter his ankles.

XO

As they activated their EVA thrusters to slow their descent Tom started to fall past them. Reaching down he adjusted his belt and activated the gravlev system. Even the short usage would reduce the belts usage time by an hour. Tom’s landing would still be a little hard, but still survivable and injury free with the role he was prepared to do.

The men would soon see technology was far more accurate than their eyes. By activating their method of deceleration, it would save their lives. At exactly the twenty meters mark, the men would see their feet, followed by the rest of their body disappear if they were looking down as they passed through some sort of hologram projecting a surface far farther down than expected. If they had trusted their vision, they would have deployed their deceleration systems and been a red smear on the rocks below. Since they had deployed them, it would be a safe if not bumpy landing on the rocky surface of the moon. Once they landed they would see a door built into the ground with a decent security lock system.

GM

Passing through the hologram Tom was a bit surprised. Looking down to see the actual distance that they would travel Tom thought ‘Well, there goes 4 hours off the usage of my belt.’, but at the revised distance of descent, the belt would have enough time to slow his descent down to give him a gentle landing.

As Tom’s initial rate of descent was faster than the others due the EVA shield belt taking a bit more time to slow him down, he reached the surface first. Tom took a moment to straighten the suit and brush out the wrinkles and then began examining the locking system on the door. The shimmering field that was barely visible on board the ship was now showing with a little more intensity in the vacuum of space.

  • Tom, IntSec

Magnus nearly panicked when he saw the Intsec Officer falling past them at Mach-too-fast but once again he pulled some amazing technological bullcrap out of his rear and landed without issue. The landing was simple now that they weren’t going to be pancaked by the holographic shielding This is the last time I do an Op without proper recon He thought to himself not for the first time and likely not for the last time. Upon landing he went immediately into a combat crouch, rifle aimed at the door, eyes scanning the area, HUD showing him the security lock on the door “Take the door down, quietly please” He ordered.

XO

“What the bloody hell was that?” Thomas asked as he too came to a landing, along with the rest of the security team. He brought his phaser up to guard just in case there was something on the other side of the door that needed blasting.

COS

Tom reached into the breast pocket of his suit and pulled out but looked like a pen. He pulled on the pocket clip and what looked like a translucent sheet of mylar 4 in by 6 in extended from it and he stuck it to the door just underneath the lock. After about 30 seconds of absorbing the ambient energy given off from the electronic lock and the holographic system, the mylar lit up as the device took passive scans of the internal workings of the door and Tom started working to bypass the lock.

  • Tom, IntSec

OOC: the EVA/Shield belt and anti-grav levitation systems that Tom has, pulled out of his rear, have been around since the TOS era. Hence the earlier comment of old technology updated for modern uses.

The door would not take too much skill to open. It was a secure lock but not impenetrable and it was Starfleet issued. Once open, the men would find the door opened into a simple airlock space where they would need to open the next door to gain access to the base in the moon. The controls inside the airlock were familiar as found on any Starfleet Base or in any Starfleet ship. The small window in the airlock would give the team their first glimpse of the base. The walls, floor, and ceiling were cored out of the metal ore however support struts contained lights and controls presumably to open the few doors they could see lining the passageway outside the air lock.

GM

Magnus allowed the security team to take point although he itched to rush inside, he’d been command level for long enough to know that knocking down doors was no longer his job. When the first team was already in he made his way inside. After making sure the rest of the assault team was in place he took a knee and opened the suit comms for the team “Alright, McGregor set your rearguard here, this is our primary exfil and rally point if things go haywire but I want to secure transporter capabilities as well as shuttle landing points, if you find opportunities to take over any central locations you have permission to do so at your discretion.” he tapped the command interface on his suit to prepare for using the suit indoors

“Aye aye,” Thomas said, nodding to the security officers he’d picked for that job. Two would stay outside guarding from any potential external threats, two would remain inside, pointing at the door the rest of them were about to enter.

“I want to try to go weapons silent for as long as possible but if or when we go loud we go loud and fast, when the first shot is fired its weapons free.” He spoke more like a soldier now than normally, with none of his usual swagger in his tone, a side of him the crew was not used to “Commander, keep the suits on or take them off here before proceeding?” He asked the security chief, he had his thoughts on the matter but he wanted opinions before giving his orders.

XO

“We’re dealing with at least one man who’s already demonstrated his lack of regard for others’ lives,” Thomas said. “I think it would be more prudent to keep the suits on, make it harder for him to deal with us than just open this place to vacuum.”

COS

Once in the airlock in preparations to cycle it, Tom put the mylar against the internal mechanism and attempted to find a way to cycle the airlock without setting off any alerts.

  • Tom, IntSec

As the men took up their positions, the sound of talking could be heard down the corridor and heading towards them. There were klaxons or agitation in the voices. To the away team, it would seem just like two or three crew talking about random topics as they walked the corridors of the Genesis. The team had about ten seconds to decide to head the other way down the hall and not be discovered or take on the people approaching them.

GM

Thomas quickly consulted the sensor display in his suit to see just how many targets were approaching, and what if anything could be determined about them.

COS

Tom was there as an Internal Security infiltration specialist. So far it was not looking like he was going to be infiltrating a party. So he stood quiet and to the side and watch the rest of the infiltration team to see what they would do. He would take his lead from them. Meanwhile he listened closely to see if he could determine the number of people walking down the hallway based on the sound of their footsteps. As he listened he slowly and quietly reached to his belt and pulled out his compact dart pistol that looked like a small LED flashlight. It was currently loaded with broad species tranquilizer rounds but he always carried a more lethal option on him just in case.

  • Tom, IntSec

Whilst the two officers were focusing on numbers Magnus focused on time and by the sound of those conversationalists there wasn’t time, he raised a hand and gave the hand signal for them to move on “Hop to” He said through the suit coms in a half whisper, there wasn’t really a need to whisper but he always found it to be a good operating procedure “Down hall, prep ambush” He ordered and moved first, they might not need to take them out but he wanted a look at their opposition.

XO

The approaching people turned out to be three science-type individuals.   They were physically not impressive and more the average height and weight for two humans and a Betaziod.  The conversation was lackadaisical until they rounded the corner staring at Magnus and his away team.   “Um Scott,” one of the trio stated to his friend, “I told you it was a bad idea coming here.”  Not knowing what to do, the three individuals froze in place as if each of them was trying to think of a plan.
