Dagen tugged at the string of the cloth bag to secure it. It was interesting how different cultures presented gifts to one another. Humans had elaborate wrapping options. Trill tended to utilize bags of sort rather than wrapping though that could be of different varieties as well. Some on Andor would encase their gifts in ice and Klingons in chest like boxes. Vulcans, logically of course, just presented it to the person without the wrapping. He did feel, however, that Angel appreciated the extra effort that others made with wrapping, as illogical as she would say it was.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, spotted feet bare near the regulation carpeting he held the bag at his knees and looked at it. Earth tended toward certain artistic expressions more so than Trill, still some were quite amazing. It was one that he had secured holo tickets for. In an effort to make things ‘special’ even in holodecks certain things were of limited accessibility whether it be in attendance or time, otherwise nothing would be special with it, only interesting. Of course Dagen had another gift .. something much more private, but this was the public gifting. Where would he keep it then away from Reia to find when she was the intelligence expert and Dagen had about as much of a poker face as a mime.

Reia had come home early from her shift and was skulking about the living room. She knew that all species celebrated different holidays at different times of the year and a lot of them involved giving presents. Since she and Dagen would always be a very interesting mixed marriage she decided to celebrate Christmas because it was one of her most favorite times of year and could come along for the ride or just be given presents. An interesting wife? But what to get the tinkerer who had everything?

Dagen had been about Terrans for many years to get their sense of holiday spirit at certain occasions. There was still a hold on to some religious sensibility though, in all he had seen, that had faded once the plethora of aliens - himself included - had been discovered. The general religions that had seemed so defined and exclusive had to undergo a tremendous shift. There had been a period of particular uproar around that time but post WWIII on Earth then Vulcans then more seemed to have taken the steam out of them as a dominant belief. Some certain holidays remained as tradition be it Christmas, Solstice or Winter celebration. Those on OP42 had decorated that old station up and utilized one sizeable holodeck as a kind of winter wonderland as it had been advertised. Dagen knew quite a bit about that. He was often called in to help fixed the aging components of it that were strained by the use in that time.

Still for Reia, that seasonal celebration was devoid of snow and such trappings. Hers was mid summer there which sported its own different tack for the holiday. Gifts were still a custom seemingly universal for that time but beaches were more a mainstay than sleigh rides. He didn’t know what they did there. It was something he needed to ask Reia. Ship board life made for tradition easy to do. Decorations in the cabins and arboretum and chosen holoprograms for the participants. No need to worry about planetary hemispheres or seasons. Trill didn’t have a kind of mid winter festival like that based around any belief system. There were local events, more city or town related that had grown up and held by tradition which collected tourists and were held at different days and months, sometimes based around a founder and sometimes around a notable event or competition.

He slipped the gift bag away in the back of the drawer of his bedside table. Not exactly the grandest hiding spot but Dagen was a classic messy and the drawer didn’t deviate. One rarely went too deep into that drawer before considering it a hopeless case. It was a good thing that he knew where things were in his messes. He heard Reia outside their room. Sliding off the bed he stretched and yawned then padded out into the main room. “Hey,” he said with a smile and moved to greet his wife with a long hug. “You’re early,” he said with a smile.

Reia wrapped her arms around Dagen and nuzzled his neck giggling as she did so. She had had just enough time to put the pad away, or it would have been Bacon of the month club for Christmas for him. Perhaps he would have liked that. Maybe it was worth giving a second thought.

“Am i? Maybe I gave you false intelligence about my arrival time this morning, I mean what kind of intelligence officer would I be if I always gave you the right time? I love keeping you on your toes sweetie you should know that by now. So, want to grab an early dinner?”

OOC: Bacon of the month club? lol sounds like an awesome business!

The thing about even having had a female host that Dagen could tap into memories of thanks to Thor was that he still didn’t understand the female mind at all and, from what he could tell regarding Lin’s memories was that she didn’t know either. It made for a sometimes tiptoe through the minefield venture. Dagen could tell that Reia was covering for something but then so was he and maybe it was even something similar in which case he would be wise to let it drop and if not then it would equally be wise to let it drop. Funny how that worked. But he enjoyed the hug and the nuzzle.

“I was out early too. The new boots I replicated. There is always something about replicated boots or shoes that they don’t get quite right with my left foot. You’d think that with all the scans I’ve had done of me that the computer could get that right.” Indeed he felt it was better to return and change boots than to be limping about for the rest of the day. “Bat was a the point of suggesting I get it amputated and replaced with a wooden peg.” It had also provided him that time (in theory) to work at Reia’s gift. “Never one to turn down a dinner with you, love,” he said, sidestepping the intelligence officer mine and going to the subject presented. “Something where shoes are not required.” He smiled and gave her a squeeze for good measure. Dagen had thought that he was the one with the appetite but Reia’s was voracious. “What do you feel like?”

“Well text…”

Reia hadn’t let dagon go, she reached between them with one hand and felt around for exactly what she might want for dessert.

“Oh, I’m sorry you asked what I wanted for dinner. Barbecue? Are you all packed love? I was thinking that I have a few more things I need to do with but I’m going to have to replicate them later this evening because I’m absolutely starving.”
