Magnus frowned at the man’s statement “I am held accountable for my actions especially when they result in the deaths of my subordinates, there are inquires, investigations, and sometimes inquests.” He checked his console to see how far along they were at tracking that man down “The same goes for any and all scientific exploration, it should be led by morals not greed and arrogance” That tidbit about a new benefactor was interesting but he wanted to keep that in his pocket for later.

The tracking had zeroed in on a small moon. It was in the Betazed system but far enough out that a transmission would go unnoticed unless one was specifically looking for it. The tracking was complete and the Genesis had a course that feasibly would take them to their kidnapped crew.

Magnus stood up, walked to the helmsman and tapped him “Go time, maximum speed” He ordered.

The trip to the moon took almost twelve hours. Long enough for the crew to switch out, be refreshed, and re-assume their roles on the bridge. The moon in question looked typical but scans would show it was anything but normal.

It was difficult getting fine details off of a passive scan but, Tom did his best.

Tom used passive scanning to hopefully delay Rockburn’s potential discovery that they had found him and were closing in. Tom continued the probe’s scanning procedures as if they hadn’t found Rockburn’s location in an effort to misdirect as he prepared other tricks.

Magnus was seated in the Captains chair, cup of coffee in hand and legs crossed, he’d now been on duty for almost twenty hours, he had taken a few hours of rest in the Captains Ready room as they travelled and the coffee was only his second of the day so he felt good. Silently he wondered how the hell someone had managed transport over such a distance through a shielded Starfleet Vessel, those thoughts were only there so he could ignore any thoughts on how the missing crew was doing.

ic: “Sir, we are in orbit and scans show there is a possibility that while we can’t beam into the facility we can beam to the surface and enter one of these vents?” Bringing up the surface, she showed it to the bridge crew as a possible means of entry into the moon without being detected.

Magnus nodded slowly “Alright, block any communications coming to the ship unless it’s a Starfleet secure signal, make sure our friend doesn’t start gibbering again” He turned to Jarvis, as always surprised that he still remembered the mans face “You up for a little side-quest?” He asked “I’ll take a team planet-side, you go solo if you’re up for it” He tapped a key on the Captain’s chair =^=Bridge to McGregor, & Logan. Report to Transporter room 1, full tactical equipment.=^= He looked around the Bridge “NETorres, you have the bridge, try and keep anyone from running away, keep scanning the area as if we’re still searching and try to flood the area so they might miss our transporting.” He said walking towards the turbolift.

The transporter room was slowly filling up with individuals making the space feel more compact. Everyone was ready and waiting for the debrief by those in charge of the mission. Several temporary PaDDs were erected in the room showing all the information they learned on the bridge. One PaDD showed the vent where scans indicated that if they could open it, it would lead deep inside the moon presumably to the base inside. On another PaDD was random technobabble that explained why transporters could not be used. The third monitor showed the image and career file of Lt. Rockburn who worked in holographic engineering for five years before being dishonorably discharged for numerous offenses such as conduct unbecoming an officer, breach of command, and unauthorized projects resulting in the death of ten officers. The deaths were ‘indirect” casualties, and were not easily prosecuted. That being said, it was odd that there was no effort made to do so. Normally this information would be shared in a briefing room however their crew was missing and time was of the essence.
