Thor and Baily woke up not in sickbay or the engine room but in a small bedroom. The room was sparse and resembled more of a dorm room back in the academy with two twin beds, two dressers, and a night table in between them. Instead of the gold uniforms, both men were wearing dull gray coveralls with their names across the pocket as if they were civilian workers in a blue-collar job and not Starfleet officers.

OOC: Bailey was a girl <G>
IC:

Dagen woke with a start. He had been dreaming of a medical emergency in Engineering and he had called for an transport to sickbay. Had he been dreaming this. Even before opening his eyes the feel and smell of the bed was different. “Reia,” he said quietly even as he opened his eyes. What? His hand brushed against his eyes as though to clear them that he’d see something different. And what was he wearing? Where was he? The holodeck? And Bailey? Outside of simulations Dagen had never been in a holodeck with Bailey. He swung his legs over the side of the small bed. Where was Reia? And where were they? The room reminded him of the Academy but didn’t have the posters and .. well, it wasn’t an utter mess like his typically was. THAT told him that Dagen had not created this simulation, even if he was in one. “Bailey, are you okay?” he asked, remembering his dream.
- Dagen, CE

The door opened and a very stern and prim-looking woman stood in the entrance. Her lips were pursed tightly as if angry or upset. “I am going to tell the both of you this once and once only. You are not to interact with anyone. Do your job or there are consequences?” The initial plan had been a single person. Now her boss had brought over four all from the same place. She needed to control the situation and them. “Behave you will see Reia again. Now get dressed and go play your role as required. You,” she pointed to Thor, “are the mechanic and you,” she pointed to Baliey, “are the bartender. The event is in under two hours so get ready to park the incoming vehicles and stock the bar with enough ice so that no one has a hot drink.” She moved aside as if this information would make sense to the two people in the room. The males of any species were the more difficult to handle when placed in a stressful situation. Stating that she had Reia would control the man and in turn have him control the other female with him.

Dagen’s brain was engaging, if slowly. The dichotomy of going from a medical emergency in engineering to what looked to be a holodeck program - and to find Bailey unharmed where earlier she looked to be possibly a gonner. If not for the seriousness of this he would have wanted to play this out but there was a huge missing piece here the size of a warp core and he wanted answers. And .. what? “What about Reia?” He asked abruptly, standing fast and fighting off a moment of light headed nausea. “Behave? Mechanic?” He was going to say more when he caught the expression and the implied threat in the tone. Was Reia here too? What was her state?

Using people as leverage was always a tricky thing. If the person one was leveraging meant nothing then you were screwed. Seeing Dagen’s reaction though meant Thomas had been right about it working. She is fine as long as you do exactly what you are told when you are told to do it.” A sinister smile filled her face, “As to behave I think you are smart enough to know that every behavior has a consequence. Are you creative enough to think about what consequence your actions could have on her? Let your mind wander,” she said in a slightly malicious tone, “and I am sure you still won’t be able to imagine the horrors we could inflict on her so yes....behave so you don’t have to find out. You are a good little Starfleet lap dog so follow orders like you are trained to.” It was clearly evident on her face how much this woman despised Starfleet or authority in general.

She was almost as venomous as Thrace could be, or maybe even more, Dagen thought - Thrace being the moody poet activist second host of Thor. She was in a snit and, in his mind hoped that she was single; he could not imagine what being would like her. No, a Tellarite would get along well with her. He thought the Tellarite would edge her out in looks too. She evidently had not seen him belt an admiral, though she might if she kept on like that. “Don’t underestimate the horrors anyone can do,” he replied in a low tone.

“We don’t underestimate anyone and have taken excruciating care to ensure what we planned goes off without a hitch.”

Looking at his coveralls, curious now if they said Dagen or Thor on them, then glanced back to the prim looking woman. Whatever was her part in this? He scratched at a growing five o’clock shadow. “Mechanic. Parking cars. Bartender. In these?” What was this place? A prison facility that hosted a party where the labor was so drably dressed? He looked over at Bailey. At least she fit better in hers but those long sleeves would get in the way of mixing anything more than cement. First things first, however. They needed a look at where they were beyond these walls.

“You are used to a uniform? Do you need a brightly colored shirt and the ability to control others to feel adequate? Useful?” Her tone was becoming more harsh and venomous. “There are many who can’t strut up and down the halls looking down at someone who doesn’t snap a salute or response yes sir fast enough for your liking but still have to put up with your crap to provide for their families. You are an officer. Set an example and control your people,” she nodded her chin at Bailey. “That is the other part of you getting to be a peacock. Controlling your people because if they get out of line it is on your right? Seems someone always has a master no matter how high their rank is. I am responsible for you and you to a lot more people so square those shoulders and do your job for once instead of acting like you do.” The woman had no idea how Dagen Thor actually was as an officer but she had experienced enough people with pips to know it probably was the same everywhere in Starfleet.

Did she want a salute? And nobody as yet needed to be controlled lest Dagen lose his cool in which Bailey might need to pull him off this venomous toad. “Some people actually enjoy being part of a group working toward a common goal. Perhaps you missed that class.” He was not averse to following along provided that the direction was clear. She must have missed that part and was instead enacting prissy criticism while assuming that partial instruction was sufficient. He glanced at Bailey. “Don’t poison anyone,” he said then, gave a look that suggested, ‘well, maybe one’. To the lady he said, “All I was inquiring about was, if I am a mechanic and chauffeur, do I park lush, expensive vehicles in this grease monkey suit?” Then he smiled. “I’d lose out on tips.”

“Where’s the ice?” He needed a bit of alone time to get his bearings and find out how Bailey was doing and if she remembered anything more - AND find Reia. Did Bailey know how to mix drinks? Wasn’t that what a replicator was for?
Dagen

“How can you be the chief and this stupid? Her job,” she leveled a bony finger at Bailey is to be the bartender. “Yours is to play chauffeur and mechanic or are you so arrogant as to have forgotten what a basic day’s work really is?”

“Nothing wrong with helping a co-worker,” he said. “Perhaps you might try it sometime.”

“What do you think I am doing? If you really think this is my life aspiration then you are as dumb and short-sided as those in command,” commented

‘Kidnapping, coercion, forced compliance to name three, Dagen thought. If he was a ‘co-worker’ how much was he getting paid for this?

“Now if you follow me you will see that Reia is fine for now but your actions in the next five minutes will dictate how long she remains that way.” Gesturing out the door, she waited a half second before taking the lead for Dagen and Bailey to follow.

That quieted him down, for the moment and he led the way out in front of Bailey.

Moving from the room, Thor and Bailey would move down a beautiful marble hallway adorned with art, sculpture, and other objects worth more than he could make in his lifetime. What he and Bailey would see exiting the hallway was a high-maintenance woman throwing a tantrum to her husband about the holoprojector being down and ruining her career. Ensign Brecker was in the same drab clothes with her name BRECKER across her pocket matching his uniform with THOR printed on it. Brecker seemed to be assigned the role of holo-repair technician and if Thor lifted his eyes he might see his wife in a maid’s uniform sweeping the patio.

Whoa, he thought to himself seeing all of the various and sundry high end art. Well, some of it anyway, what was that about a gold ring in a pig’s snout, when he saw the woman berating whom he figured was her husband. Poor Brecker to have to bear the brunt of it but projectors were not that hard to fix provided it was a hardware issue. He went to turn to see that Bailey was following when he saw Reia and nearly stumbled. What WAS she wearing? Whatever it was it was .. no, let’s not think of that now. Later perhaps. He swallowed.

“If you break your role and try to contact them or anything else so stupid I will take action against them and let you deal with the consequences,” was the prim woman’s only reply as she let Dagen take in a few details.

GM

Action. Everyone of them seemed to have a role. Including him. And, evidently Reia. Not much could be done by this woman if she wanted whatever it was to run smoothly, Dagen conjectured. Hence she was bluffing, at least to a degree. Thrilled to see her Dagen thought to wonder what he could do that wouldn’t ‘break role’ and then winked at Bailey. And let out a wolf whistle just loud enough for Reia to hear and likely missed by the ‘arguing one sided couple’ beyond. He looked at the ‘leader’ and said, “Not breaking role. What else would a red blooded mechanic do when he saw such a sight?” He knew she was safe, trapped inside the same situation they were, and that was good. They made a good team and gave Dagen something and someone to work to, even if Reia was, er, barely trapped in that maid uniform.

The woman arguing with her husband stopped mid-sentence and looked at Dagen. She did not seem offended and her pinched, whining expression softened some. The clicking of her heels echoed on the marble flooring. Standing in front of him she looked at his face and tilted her head slightly before looking down and wringing her nose. “No…no this is not acceptable. Not by a long shot. Tell me Mr.,” she let her voice trail off slightly as she brushed the shoulders of his shirt off with her fingertips waiting for him to insert his name. The sensation was barely felt due to her not actually wanting to touch his outfit.

Oh .. crap .. Dagen thought as the woman thought the call was meant for her. But by her expression he was not going to be ‘fired’ from this post, but what frying pan did he leap into from the fire? “Thor, ma’am,” he said, filling in his name even though his name tag was nor far from her eyes. Dagen’s senses worked as did a slight run of adrenaline. He daren’t look at the prude supervisor nor did he want to create more conflict by looking at Reia and revealing the true target of his call. Her perfume was not offensive but saw that it must have clashed with his motor lubricant fragrance. This was .. awkward and he tried not to show it but his deepening breath could be .. misconstrued.

“Do you really want to wear this when tonight your life could change forever, I have a lot of single and recently single friends coming.” Leaning in she whispered in his ear,” Your look is exotic and dangerous. Don’t embarrass me or you are fired.” Stepping back she grinned devilishly. Staff were good for two things: their job and they occasional perk. His coarse demeanor with the whistle and the fact he looked like he just rolled out of bed and did not shave had a certain appeal for some. “See to it that he,” she reached around and found his south forty giving it a slap,” has something that is more defining.”

About to reply to her he stopped, processing this new development. “No, ma’am,” he said after her implied threat not to embarrass her. He wondered how he could do that? And what friends she was meaning. Her slap came as a surprise and he jerked, hoping that was a response that was desired given that it was not expected or rehearsed.

“Of course,” the prim woman clenched her jaw hating that she had lost control of Dagen even for a split second. Digging her nails into his arm, she prodded him towards the patio. “Try anything like that again and I will jettison your wife’s body into space using a transporter.”

Did she not know what he was capable of and did? What he had to do in his pursuit of his runaway sister or the desperation on OP42? That was not a threat that he would take kindly to or let pass. For now he ground his teeth and tried not to let those ghosts of his past resurface too suddenly or be noted in his returned glare as she navigated him toward the patio.

They walked onto the patio and the prim looking woman let go of Dagen’s arm. “I am not completely a monster unlike your overlords.” Flicking her hand she knocked over a vase letting it shatter to the floor. “You have as long as reasonably expected for her to clean this up.” She did not actively tell Dagen to help but continued forward after berating him for his clumsiness. Moving to the edge of the patio, the woman waited and observed what Dagen would do with his time with Reia.

GM

What was this? Psychologically the good cop portion of the relationship? Or to pacify him with a moment with Reia to consider more pliant compliance to her demands? He didn’t miss the open door. Wordlessly he went to a knee and started picking up pieces. He was taking his time - not to prolong the time he had with Reia but taking care to not cut himself on the shards. It wouldn’t do to have a bunch of band aids on his fingers in this gathering later whatever it was. “Are you okay?” he asked her quietly when she came within range. That gave him a moment to look her over to see that she was uninjured. “You have got to get one of those outfits,” he said with a wink. “Apparently I’m a grease monkey chauffeur and Bailey is bartender. I can guess your role.” His voice dipped as he piled larger pieces to one side. “What is this?”
