Dagen was always surprised, and then questioned himself on why he was surprised, at the warmth that Reia emanated - always more fully realized when she pulled away. She was a .. highly portable fusion reactor that way, exceedingly well packaged he thought as he watched her move to the replicator. He swiveled in the chair, following her, noting a small squeak in it’s works and making a mental note to look at that later. Which, knowing him, would entail having pieces of it arranged over the floor should a preventive squirt not take care of it.

“Well as far as our families meeting on neutral ground, which sector of the galaxy would you say is safe?” she asked.

  • Reia

“Cestus III?” Dagen said automatically. He stood and stretched. Closing the short distance to join Reia and stand behind her he looked over her shoulder as his fingers combed through her long, light hair. Giving it a gentle pull to expose her neck he kissed it. “You have told stories of this great Australian desert. Perhaps the families could do a kind of survival game to bond.”
- Dagen

Reia turned and looked up at her husband. Naturally she recalled many of the Cestus incidents but she liked his idea better.

“Oh you’re hilarious! I don’t know who would win that game or what kind of bonding you think would actually happen out there in the Australian desert. I’ll take that under advisement. Now do you want to retrieve this present? Your darling eccentric aunt is just a little scary to this newest family member.”

  • Reia

Dagen pondered suggesting that between Aunt Clara and her that his dear wife was likely dressed more provocatively but he really was okay with that. Grandfather and the rest of the guys in the family would have quite enjoyed that time ou there. Dad would be okay with it. Mother wouldn’t have any technology to wreck. She liked the cabin but preferred to stay put there. Tents and bugs were not her thing. Still behind Reia he playfully gave her pat to her behind as Reia suggested that she was afraid of his eccentric Aunt. “Take away the cats and you’d both get along amazingly well,” he said. Reaching around her to the replicator with his other arm Dagen tapped at the replicator. “And the moment of truth …” he began as the soft sing song tone of the replicator began .. then ended. Two slim bracelets were there, metallic of interwoven strands. One was finer, more delicate and the other broader but seemingly the same. He couldn’t see all of it to see whether there was anything on the face of it but with nano technology it could be virtually anything. “Okay,” he said. “Looks … benign.”
- Dagen

Reia shifted and pressed up against Dagen picking up the bracelets she placed the larger one on Dagen’s right wrist and handed him the more slender one to do the same for her. Somehow she had a feeling they belonged there instead of on the left.

Once upon a time such casual proximity with another was alien to Dagen and in no small way odd when he saw it. Now, after this time with Reia it was utterly unconscious. He didn’t even bat a brain cell, or an eyelash, when Reia leaned back against him and put the bracelet on him even though her hair swam in his vision as he peered over her bare shoulder. “Feels warm,” he commented, both arms now around Reia as he slid the bracelet over her slender wrist. The fibres in the band had some flex to them and seemed to expand and contract and settled securely. He pushed a finger under his at the underside of his wrist and it gave some then slid back into place. His was thicker than Reia’s but Dagen didn’t think it would interfere with anything. It was mostly .. band. The upper part widened slightly and held a different pattern of interlaced threads.

“I don’t know. Seems a little too innocent for my tastes. I’m wondering if there’s a second half stuck somewhere in the replicator but, these are very lovely.” she said examining the one on Dagen’s arm. It seemed to sit quite naturally.

  • Reia

“It could be that it’s simply a ‘matchy matchy’ thing in Auntie’s thinking,” Dagen said. In the back of his mind he had that twinge that it was not that simple but one couldn’t look for a devil behind every doorknob. Or, in this case, possessing matching bands. “Oh look,” he said, crossing his arms in front of Reia better securing her against him but also to allow him to turn his wrist up to face them. Small lights flickered seemingly following the wider part of the band threads. It reminded Dagen of neurons firing in a brain. “Let’s see yours. By all .. engineering standards I’d say that it was configuring. But to what I wonder.”
- Dagen

Reia looked down at Dagen’s flashing little lights and turned her wrist over to lay against his and saw the same thing happening on her band.

“Huh. I wonder what this is all about. Biorhythms or some such thing?” Her pattern was different than his but it seemed to be doing about the same thing. The mesh band felt warm against her skin and her body felt warm even against Dagen’s cool uniform.

Dagen watched them side by side. They started off having different patterns. They were hypnotic in way, watching them, though it slowed to each one having periods where the flashes looked to be synched before seemingly randomizing again. “Looks like it’s done some kind of start up. They look linked by the patterns. See how they are occasionally matching.” Each motion by his arms brought him into some brushing contact with his wife. It was distracting, even with the fascinating mystery of this gift. He knew that time was moving along and that shifts were quickly approaching. There were times when the relative importance of those things simply were not there. Letting go of her hand his arms tightened enough to hug Reia more firmly against him as he burrowed his face in her fine hair to kiss her at the base of her neck and lost himself in that moment.

“Too bad you’re already dressed for work.” she sighed.

  • Reia

Her words wafted up to him from a growing murky self-inflicted pheromone induced soup. “Mmmm? Really love, I’m hardly dressed. I don’t have my boots on.”
Dagen

Reia giggled indulgently and shifted around so that she once again faced him while still locked in his embrace.

Dagen didn’t appreciably adjust his arms that had encircled his wife making it a playfully challenging and rather pleasant experience.

“Well let’s fix that then. I’m guessing we have a good half hour until it really matters. You know what we can accomplish in half an hour don’t you love?” she asked with gently placed kisses.

“Well I could readjust the replicator relays so the coffee doesn’t come out tasting like a mutated blood wine. The sonic shower has a new programming where it comes out feeling like water drops with various settings. We could compose a thank you letter for the mystery bracelets for Aunt Clara.” He said these with his mind increasingly on things less mechanically related. “Or you could keep on doing what you are doing,” he said, accommodating Reia in whatever uniform challenge she was working on at that moment. As one particular kiss in a place that Trills are sensitive to sent shivers through his body he continued. “Yes, that last thing.”

In some cultures they would, technically, still be newly weds. In others they would be considered married for quite some time. None of that really entered Reia’s mind as she started working at Dagen’s uniform.

  • Reia

Dagen helped his wife where he could in this one sided operation. In one way it didn’t seem right that Dagen was unable to return the favor. Looking at it another way, Dagen found it very pleasant wherever Reia brushed against him. In the corner of his eye he noticed a blip in space pass by, like a comet or other light streak, but that was gone in a moment.
- Dagen

Now they were skin to skin, absolutely nothing between them except, perhaps, a few molecules.

“Mmmm. I like you so much better this way. I think I like you right here and right now too. Why wait?” she said teasingly, her hands all over her wonderful husband.

  • Reia

Wait? Wait for what at this point? There was nothing happening. They were between missions currently being resupplied. On his side there were a number of engineering components being taken aboard and others swapped out. Those he intended to keep up on; the Trill helped built the Genny and new things he wanted to be aware of. Technology simply kept going and as much as he tried one could not easily keep up on it all and still, in this case run a department and work on a marriage. Which, at the moment, he supposed he was attending to right now, if that word could be used in any adequate way.

Sometimes he wondered at their so opposite nature, even physically. She feminine and smooth, and Dagen having taken on a nickname of Sasquatch at the Academy. He was not often cold, apart from his hands which were a joined Trill trait, and never when he was next to Reia. As his wife was already in his arms he tightened his hug and lifted her to the edge of the console and hoping that it didn’t engage anything like, oh, ship wide comms. There was a flash across the view screen; another supply ship no doubt or a survey bot scanning the hull for any integrity issues. He’d seen some of them since talking to Aunt Clara. They were in and out of his mind - a reminder to check manifests later, but not right now. “We certainly have time, love. What could possibly disturb us here?”

Dagen

Reia shifted slightly on the edge of the console.

Oh yes, this is going to be fun. she thought.

“You’re right of course.” she purred in his ear.

Her arms were wrapped tightly around him and her legs fit snug around his hips.

  • Reia

At that moment there was a soft swish and a female voice was heard saying, “… rry, Commander Thor must have gone to engineering early. I can’t explain why he would not have answered his calls. But you can wait here until we track him and Lt Shandy. As you can see the rep …” The voice trailed off suddenly … “Uh, perhaps on second tho..”

“This will be perfectly fine, dear,” came the voice of Dagen’s mother. “We’ll make ourselves at home. Surprises can come in different forms.”

“But in this case ..” came the shriller voice of their guide.

“Nonsense, we’ve taken up enough of your time and .. oh …” A moment’s pause. “..My.”

For Dagen the voices intruded on his consciousness, thinking that it was through the comms at first, and only came to bear on the forefront of his senses at the sound of his mother’s voice, his eyes going suddenly wide as he looked into Reia’s, his body freezing.

Dagen

Unfortunately it was Reia who got to see them first because Dagen’s back was to the door. She would rather have gasped in pleasure but, instead, it was a gasp of pure shock. When she had heard the voices, Reia had moved her head slightly and had the horror of seeing them walk in. Reflexively, her arms and legs tightened around Dagen even more and she buried her head in his shoulder.

“This is not happening.” she whispered.

  • Reia

From the ensign at the door came the muttered sound, “This is not happening. I am so dead.”

Dagen, at the sudden grip of his wife, jerked and gasped, mouth suddenly dry and, feeling Reia .. hiding all he could do at the moment was to hold her as his mind thought. Nothing in all his lives, or Thor’s lives, had anything this .. unique.

There was a cough. His father. “At least you are taking in morning exercise, dear,” his mother said. Then, “Shel, now you can see what you looked like .. a couple decades ago.” Another pause. “Dagen, we’ll just look out the window at the nice stars for a moment and let you collect yourself.”

Dagen heard movement, the sliding doors shutting. “At least it wasn’t Bat,” Dagen whispered back.

His father commented, “Nice view from your cabin. Full moon is it?” The sound of a smack could be heard.

“Our chance?” Dagen said quietly, trying to peel Reia off of him but not having any luck … would he have to move to their room like this?

Dagen, CE

At that particular moment Reia had taking in a little bit more than exercise. She held onto Dagen tightly while her legs slipped down and her feet touched the floor.

“I want a drink. Oh by the gods I want a drink!” she whispered.

Dagen could relate; his head was clear but his heart was pounding, not to mention adrenaline pumping. They had a window of opportunity. Best take it.

Finally letting him go she grabbed one hand and ran them both towards the bedroom.

He moved with Reia, casting a glance at his parents looking through the window to space beyond fully aware that there was a ‘reflective’ component that he would not doubt that they were watching there. Idly he thought that this was the sort of thing that they’d more than likely have encountered had Dagen been a ‘normal’ teenager. Fortunate, or, perhaps not so fortunate, he had been so focused on his Olympic potential and Symbiont testing that he had not pursued relationships beyond friends who hung out.

“Make yourselves at home.” she called back before the bedroom door slid closed.

“I don’t think that was a good enough warning from your Aunt Clara, really. What universe does she live in?” Reia asked as she began dressing in whatever she could find.

Dagen glanced back to the room where most of his uniform littered the floor just before the door closed. “Her own, that is for sure,” he replied, digging for a shirt to pull on. “How did we miss the buzzes? I can’t imagine the shuttle bay or someone calling when they boarded.” Socks, where are they? he thought, scanning the room.

She was laughing, crying, giddy, and embarrassed. Who knew the in-laws would walk in on them having early morning pheromone laced relations? That thought made her gasp and she sat down on the bed.

“I’ll be they are saying it’s about time I got into some mischief,” Dagen said, trying to find something positive in this.

“Computer, adjust the atmospheric scrubbers to maximum in these quarters.”

He froze, one foot half socked … whoops.

The computer chirped, “I’m sorry, I cannot comply. The atmospheric scrubbers are number seventeen in the queue of priority work orders. Please speak with the Chief Engineer.”

Reia simply glared at Dagen and hung her head.

  • Reia

Dagen scratched the side of his face, feeling traces of bristles. “I didn’t think it was a priority. I’m rather fond of those free floating pheromones, and you. I’ll see about some quarters for them, or something neutral ground. By the ancestors, how long are they staying?” He glanced out the window. “Restaurant on the planet or Station?” He moved to sit beside Reia and put his arm around her and pulled her in for a hug. “It’ll be okay. Remember mom is cut from the same cloth as Aunt Clara”
- Dagen

For all of her fluttering about the bedroom Reia still hadn’t found any clothing by the time Dagen pulled her close sitting on the edge of the bed. She pulled her warm skin away form his and glared at him again.

“The same cloth? Really!?! Is that supposed to be comforting!?!”

Dagen thought that reply was quite comforting. He couldn’t fathom why Reia wouldn’t take it that way too. After all, it wasn’t that it meant that his mother was in any range of hysterics over this. He could imagine the young ensign hyperventilating in the corridor about now though. Dagen had to admit that his brain cells did at that moment drift to wondering what his appearance was from that angle. He gave Reia a kind of helpless shrug and an expression of ‘I’d hoped so?’

She paused, her lip trembling as if she was about to cry again. Instead, Reia burst out in laughter and threw herself back into Dagen’s arms.

Her sudden response was .. was it an ‘I’m going to kill you tackle’? Had she sounded a bit maniacal there? The soft collision didn’t precisely convince him that it was but her emotions were all over the place here and he was only starting to get his perceptions back. The best he could do in this sudden move was catch her to keep them both from sliding off the edge of the bed into a tangle on the floor.

“Oh what a mess. Just like all of our clothes laying on the floor in the living room. Alright husband, just please get someone to change the atmospheric scrubbers soon and let’s figure out where to take your parents for breakfast. If it’s a place that serves mimosas, I’ll make you a very happy husband tonight.”

“Yeah .. that,” he said, thinking of the clothes. “Wait, what? Mimosas?” Totally not a scrambled egg platter that. “I’ll get Bat and Deeg on the scrubber today. Hopefully my folks have not eaten. Technically they themselves had had a light breakfast earlier. That being said by the time they worked it all out it would be later. He would need to reschedule a morning meeting too but that was workable.

Reia smiled and kissed him. She couldn’t let this situation get completely out of control. One day it would be an excellent story to tell.

  • Reia

Dagen tried to gauge her emotion by way of this last kiss. It felt calmer and laden with promise. “I feel like a teenager caught in the act and waiting to get grounded or something.” He pulled Reia in for a close hug. “Of course being grounded with you … do you think we could get grounded? What do we need to do for that? Er,” he glanced at the door with a smile, “beyond what we’ve already done.”
Dagen

Reia gave him a stern look but there was a twinkle in her eye.

“You’re married to me so consider your self on permanent grounding from thinking about, or looking at, any other woman with any seriousness of intent.”

“Even on weekends?” Dagen asked, sending up as innocent a look as he could, fully expecting a response.

Smiling, she kissed him again lightly before standing up. Stepping away from him she moved with purpose. She laid a clean neatly folded uniform out on the edge of the bed and then pulled together an outfit for breakfast. She slipped into a black dress with a plunging neckline and ran a brush through her silken white hair. Standing before a small mirror she tied a bejeweled purple ribbon in her hair at the nape of her neck. She slipped on some flats, a silver choker and matching ankle bracelet. Last but not least she found the leather bracelets she liked to wear at times. What no-one knew about the clasps of the ankle bracelet and choker was that they could attach to the bracelets. Smiling, she turned and presented herself to Dagen.

Dagen watched Reia for a time, his attention split between enjoying Reia move and bend and dress. When she attended to her hair he moved himself. Popping on a uniform did not take much effort or thought which was good because his mind was more split between his parents and this situation and Reia. They were at port and there was an option for civilians to come aboard. They were typically registered and logged. How they had managed to convince the people to not just let them board but bring them up here was .. well, likely a combination of mother’s force of nature, nature, and his father’s easy going charm.

“Yes, a very happy man later. Now introduce me properly husband.”

  • Reia

“Ready,” he said taking a deep breath and standing. “You are lovely,” he said, taking her hands in his. For all we know they’ve replicated a four course breakfast in our absence.
Dagen

This would be the second or third time Reia had ever met a set of parents. Most of those were on family weekends at the Academy and not for anything serious. Her mind flashed back to the wedding. Those two sets of parents didn’t belong to her or a man she loved but, meeting them had cost a friendship and ended a marriage before it started.

“Yes, let’s do this.” she said walking out into the living room.

  • Reia

They emerged into the main room to the smell of bacon. The first thing that Dagen noticed was that their clothes - well, his. Reia didn’t start with much - had been folded and put on the console. Reia’s robe was nowhere to be seen but her panties were on the top of the pile. His shoes were tucked under the console. He noticed that other things had been shifted an organized; Dagen was classically a messy and Reia was, thankfully, not a neat freak, which meant that there was usually something about that could be set straight. Mother had apparently done so and was, at that moment looking at the shelves that Reia had had moved in. His dad was at the table hunched over two long square plates of .. bacon. Single strips laid out in a row that he was systematically working at.

He noticed them first. “There you are. I like your replicator. So many choices. Testing your top twenty chosen bacon flavors of those on your ship.”
“Oh don’t go on about your bacon, Shel, we’re here to see them,” his mother said, turning and heading to Reia. “Finally we get to see you, with Dagen hoarding you away like some kind of crown jewel.” She glanced away from Reia to Dagen and gave him a mock stern look.”
Dagen moved over closer to his father, who, true to form picked up one of the half pieces. “Try this,” he said passing it to him. “We were dropped off and heard your ship was here. We didn’t know that but your mother charged onto a shuttle, brow beat the pilot and practically hijacked it to get us here. I expect to be arrested soon.”
“Oh don’t you start. The pilot was very nice and accommodating. We just dropped your names and ranks and ..”
“.. threatened courts martial if he didn’t fly us up ..”
“.. and he was fine with flying us in. And look at you. You look so lovely in that dress. Subspace does not do you justice. It always makes me look like I’ve put on kilos.” Dagen chewed on the bacon. His mother could hold the conversation for the entire party.
