<snip>About two hours later, a vehicle, like a military van on six wheels pulled up and out came a rather important looking man with some kind of uniform. There was a retinue of about 4 similarly dressed people with him. They were had hand-arms holstered at their hips.
“Pardon the security,” the important man said solemnly. Then he looked at each of the away team members before resting his eyes Thomas. “I am Menn. Who am I addressing?” he asked politely.
GM
“My name is Lt. Commander Thomas McGregor,” Thomas began, drawing himself up in an officious manner. “I’m an officer on board the starship U.S.S. Genesis, representing the United Federation of Planets. With me are Lt. Reia Shandy, a communications specialist, and Lt. Ben Park. Our ship is on a mission of exploration to this area of space and noticed your people have developed to a certain level of technology by which our laws allow us to initiate contact.”
COS
Reia wondered if this official looking person noticed that she looked significantly different from the others in hair and skin color. She also noticed that McGregor kept position as Chief Intelligence Officer from being mentioned. A maneuver she completely agreed with.

Ben nodded as his name was announced and stood adjacent to Thomas’s left.

bump for GM
OOC: MY apologies for the absence. The end of the year was very busy of me in RL.
IC: “I am very glad to make your acquaintance,” said Menn. “I am actually at a loss for words. You are a superior race but you have taken notice of us. Yet we are neither the most powerful nor the most advanced continent on this planet. Is there a reason you chose us instead of the other continents?”
GM
Thomas gestured to the warp ship. “That,” he said simply. “Our orbital observations detected the signature of that vessel’s reactor, something we didn’t observe anywhere else on the planet.”
He paused for a moment. “You are not a united planet, then?”
COS
“No, we are divided into three continents, each with our own leaders. We are not at war and neither are we exactly as peace,” Menn explained. “We have been developing this engine for some years now. I believe that we would be able to achieve faster than light travel with the engine.”
GM
“You’re correct in that belief,” Thomas said, while trying to remember protocol for dealing with non-united planets. He was quite sure that such was well above his pay grade, but he’d just have to muddle through and try not to screw things up too badly until a proper diplomatic team could be called in.
“Have you had any prior contact with other species?” he asked Menn, having not gotten an answer from the security guard as to whether or not these people knew about the threat to their world from the Lesscoo.
COS
Reia wondered if Thomas was breaking some type of prime directive protocol with his discussion but, decided to let the conversation continue in favor of presenting a united front for the moment.
- Reia, CIO/Comms
Menn shook his head, “We – by we, I mean my continent – have not encountered any other intelligent lifeform from outside this planet. As I am not privy to the unpublicised material from the other continents, I cannot say for certain that the planet has or has not been visited. You are the first people from outside our planet that my continent has encountered. From what you say, you are familiar with the concept of faster than light travel, no?”
GM
‘Well, at least it showed that these people didn’t know of the Lesscoo,’ Thomas thought to himself. ‘Of course, now we’re going to need to figure out a way to either meet with, or at least get into the computer systems of, the other two continents.’
Since it seemed obvious to Reia that this man was of some intelligence she wondered why he hadn’t figured that out before.
“How long have your engineers been working on this device?” she asked.
- Reia, CIO/Comms
Ben knew exactly what it was like to never meeting anyone outside of his tribe on earth. Ben spoke up “I too know what that’s like. My tribe have been living off the land for many generations and have become curious over time .” Ben was hoping that resonates with the inhabitants of this planet as a way to connect with them even though their light years apart.
Lt. Park
“Since you’re currently at peace with your neighbors, may I presume there’s a place you or your ambassadors have to meet and discuss any issues?” Thomas asked, hoping to finagle a way to meet with all the world’s leaders at once. He hoped neither of the others knew about the impending approach of the Lesscoo, but if any of them had noticed and not bothered warning the others of a possible invasion, that would be good to know.
COS
OOC: Sorry for the absence again.
IC: “We have a detente with our neighbours,” explained Mean. “Your visit may cause and unbalance in the relations. Have you been to the other continents?”
GM
“We have not,” Thomas said. “Our ship didn’t detect anything like your engine there.”
COS
Menn looked a little worried, “Our intelligence sources tell us that the Northern Continent is also developing an engine that can move faster than light. However, the technology is rather dangerous, involving large gravitational fields focussed on a single point. We have decided to pursue our own technology. Did you not detect the Northern Continent’s experiments?”
OOC: Just to mention that there was evidence of a development of artificial quantum singularity technology detected by the sensors very much earlier on in the sim.
GM
Ben just stood silently waiting for this meeting to conclude.”
