Boy, these guys are hard core offensive, Dagen thought. Charging in with brute force with missiles launching. Who were they against? One doesn’t go all gung ho like that unless they have something to go against or defend against. The planet they seemed to be seeking to conquer didn’t have the ability to really adequately defend. Sure they were working on developing different styles of space travel technology, though they weren’t there yet. There just wasn’t enough power to help them unless they wanted to seriously do design changes. Too bad. So if they were the neighbourhood bullies .. were they really the space police to rein in their offensive nature? Did they want to see any change, really? Could they force any lasting change? What might they want to ‘have’ that they could offer to tone down their conquesting outlook? As they approached the world, Dagen pondered that. Why do they feel they needed to conquer? Could they determine that and seek to help there?

Sensors were rapidly scanning and doing assessments of military targets. Interesting. They were definitely armed. Perhaps they were not unlike old cultures where the military machine was the principal economic concern. If they were at least stable as a planetary culture then this military machine would have to point somewhere. Expand or die. Many cultures had borne that philosophy over the centuries. On the upside, Dagen thought, their being at the Lescoo home world was keeping their attention there and on the Manhattan which meant that the away team that included his wife, were safe from these invaders.

They were pretty locked and loaded when it came to their nuclear arsenal. Anything that was detonated remotely at distance would not particularly affect the ship or make the shields do more than yawn, though anything closer and it risked a hit. The computer could track a lot of targets and phasers could knock out a lot but there was still risk of one getting through in the mess. Too much radiation in a field could dissipate the phasers making them less effective. But Kesh could deal with more on that up on the bridge. Tapping out a comparative display on how the regular shields would fare for a close strike of a nuke compared to multi-phasic shielding that may deal with radiation better.

The chart showed that both the regular and multi-phasic shields were both effective against radiation affecting the crew of the ship. The amount of radiation from the Lesscoo’s nuclear missiles was not large enough to affect either type of shields. However, the effect on the phasers were a different matter. A graph of the time against effectiveness of the phasers showed that at the first second of the warhead exploding, the immediate area of the shields rendered phasers only 10% effective. The phasers not behind the point of impact would still be at maximum effective ness. As the radiation moves to cover more of the shields, the diffusion of the radiation causes the phasers behind the point of impact to increase in effectiveness. The rest of the phasers would lose effectiveness with time. The end result would be that the phasers would be rendered 10% less effective on average with the first missile. Each successive missile would decrease the effectiveness a further 10%. If 10 missiles were to strike the Genesis at the same time, the ship would be protected from the radiation but the phasers would be totally ineffective. However, this graph assumed that the Genesis was stationary.

Well, forewarned was forearmed, Dagen thought as he transmitted the findings up to the bridge to Kesh. =^= Kesh, recommend a non stationery positioning. Shields will be highly effective against their nuclear weapons though cumulative radiation will render phasers incrementally less effective. =^= He sent the data up. While a much reduced phaser shot would still be effective against the Lescoo ships, Dagen would rather not be in a position where more power was needed and it wasn’t there.
