Julien listened attentively and nodded. “Very interesting. We have a species in the Federation called Klingons who have a rather similar political system, though not exactly the same of course. Do you think your Governor would like to get to know us?” Julien asked. He couldn’t really invite himself and his team to the planet to see more of it, but he was really curious… what did they produce, how did their flora and fauna look, what were their technological and cultural achievements… the more they were able to find out, the easier it would be for a UFP diplomat to pick up diplomatic connections and maybe even initialize trade agreements.

As Marishka listened to the Admiral, she could see the similarities between the two systems of government although she had a feeling the Klingon rituals were far more grandiose.

“I believe that there is a delegation from our home planet that is coming to meet us. In our last communique, after I had reported a sighting, I was requested to invite you over to the Merry and then await their arrival. If it is not too much problem, I would invite you to a short rest in our guest rooms and then to a small reception afterwards. It would help spend the time whilst we await the arrival of the delegation,” replied the Admiral.
The counsellor did not sense any lying on the part of the Admiral. He did seem to be holding something back from the away team although it did not seem to be anything that would physically harm the away team.

Riley was torn between what he sensed from David and what he sensed from Clogtho. While David’s unease had put the Counselor on heightened alert, nothing in what he’d sensed up to this point had corroborated that feeling. As long as David adhered to the Temporal Prime Directive, Riley would need to follow what was in front of him.
He looked at Julien, giving him a slight nod. The longtime friends needed no more communication than that for the Captain to understand Riley sensed no threat from their new acquaintances.

And indeed, as soon as the Admiral had finished his sentence, Julien automatically looked at Riley, expecting a nod and not willing to proceed without it.
Marishka thought over the security issues involved with what Clogtho was proposing. Of course it would be Julien who made the final call.

He also gave Marishka a quick look, but she seemed to be ok with it as well, so he nodded at Clogtho.
“Yes that’s fine Admiral, we’re in no rush.” he simply said. It would give him and his crew time to exchange first impressions and report back to the ship to get their status.

The away team were led down two decks. They had staircases for descending or ascending. There were a small section which had six doors. Each of the away team were shown to one room for their rest.
“I hope you find our rooms comfortable,” said Clogtho.
The rooms were small by Federation standards but the chair and bunk did not look too uncomfortable.

Ok, that destroyed his plan of having a bit of us-time with the others, but since he had no reason to worry, he decided to go with it, giving an ever so slight nod that the others would be able to interpret. Once in his room, he tried to contact Marius to get an update from the Genesis bridge.
OOC: Does he get through?Marishka entered her room and began to do a standard visual security sweep as well as employing other methods and paying close attention to the door. She really didn’t want a room by herself. She would have much preferred them be all together.
Looking at the chair and the bed Marishka wondered how long they would be expected to stay.
- Marishka, CIO
Riley pondered leaving the room and finding David. It was disconcerting being alone on an alien ship, but he worried about protocol. A bit of patience was warranted if it meant avoiding an interstellar incident. Instead he found himself lying on the bunk, staring at the ceiling until he was fetched.
It was about 40 minutes later that they were escorted out of their rooms and into what the ship’s dining room. They were led by the junior officers to the main table where the Admiral introduced them to two men, who were smaller built and not dressed in uniform. They were dressed with plain white tunics and white pants. Although simple, the cut of their clothes indicated that they were not the ‘person-on-the-street’.
“Captain,” said Admiral Clogtho, “May I present the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Bassa, and the Minister for Space Development, Mr. Sora.” Turning to the Ministers, he said, “Sirs, this is Captain King of the alien ship and his attending officers.”

Riley took in the room and the table before settling his focus on the government officials. As before he remained silent, probing the men’s minds as deeply as his empathic abilities allowed.

As Marishka stood with the others waiting to be introduced she examined the men as closely as she could and still maintain protocol. Without looking at him, she reached slightly to one side and brushed her fingers across the back of Riley’s hand. Perhaps he would figure out a non verbal way to give her his perspective.
- Marishka, CIO
What the counsellor sensed was a great excitement and anticipation building up in the officials’ psyche. They looked calm but there was definitely something the officials were used to keeping a cool exterior. There was no sense of deception, unless trying to look cool can be considered deception.

Julien again didn’t go for a handshake, but merely inclined his head and smiled. “Mr. Bassa, Mr. Sora, we’re very pleased to meet you in our name and in the name of the United Federation of Planets.” he said and went on to introduce each member of the away team as he had done before to the Admiral.

David once again stood apart from the others, During their little rest time, he had desperately wanted to be with Riley, to be in his lovers arms, the only place he truly felt safe. Being here brought up memories of his past, and even though time had a way of changing and ebbing through the various alternate realities in place, there was still something so familiar about these people, and this situation. It was enough to unnerve the former time agent.

“I believe that you come from a Federation and that you are exploring.” said Mr. Bassa. “I’ll be very blunt. Are you looking for new members or making ties with peoples outside your Federation?”
