Posted by Lieutenant Commander Calvin Marius (First Officer) in Quarters - Sage and Calvin Posted by… suppressed (1) by the Post Ghost! 👻 : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : When Sage returned to the quarters she shared with her husband, she was weary from a particularly difficult shift in sickbay. All she wanted was a hot shower, a cold drink and to prop her feet up for an hour or two. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The hot water sluicing down her body felt wonderful, so Sage allowed herself a few extra minutes to ease the tension from tired muscles. Feeling more relaxed, she shut the water off, dried herself and stepped from the enclosure. One look at her discarded uniform and boots on the floor elicited a shrug as she walked past them into the bedroom. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Naked, but carrying a towel to press the water from her freshly washed hair, she was headed to the dresser when something on the bed caught her attention. A slim, velvet box was nestled in the center of Calvin’s pillow. A note was slid beneath it. Curious what he was up to, she walked over and picked up the note. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : ‘Sage’ was all it said. “Oh my God, how sweet!” She checked her memory for occasions that required gifts, but nothing was even close. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Her smile grew bigger. It was a ‘just because’ present. “I have a wonderful husband!” In her excitement to open the box, it didn’t strike Sage as odd that it sat on Cal’s pillow instead of hers, that wouldn’t happen until a few minutes later. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Dropping the towel on the floor, she sat on the edge of the bed and lifted the slender box. Holding her breath with excited anticipation, Sage raised the lid and gasped. Laying on the blue interior of the box was an exquisite bracelet made from latinum links studded with a single row of perfect diamonds. It was beautiful. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Jumping up with elation, Sage started doing a little happy dance as she tried to fasten the piece of jewelry around her wrist. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : A sudden, familiar tingling whispered through her body just as her feet caught in the discarded towel and she fell to the floor. The bracelet landed a few feet away. Muscle memory charged her movements as she slapped the front of her left shoulder to activate the combadge that wasn’t there. =/\=Computer! Alert security to my location and get Cmdr Marius here at once!=/\= : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : —Sage : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: It would be good if regular security showed up and also Jarvis. Tom could have picked up an unknown transporter signal inside the ship and come to investigate. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Such and event would throw an alert on Tom’s console. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: In the few minutes it would have taken Tom to get there, she would have gotten dressed. I didn’t expect him to override the door and get in before I had a chance to post that she answered it in clothing. So I edited a little bit. I hope its not a problem. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : IC: Tom’s console pinged, “Unauthorized transport attempt detected.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : A display floated showing the ping location in Sage’s quarters. Tom picked up the small cylinder from his desk as he hit the door at a run. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Computer. Door override Brennan’s quarters. Authorization (classified)!” he spoke as he ran. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Moments later, the door of Sage and Calvin’s quarters swished open and Tom, in the dreaded black on black uniform of Internal Security, entered the room with a quick tactical sweep of his flashlight. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : He saw Sage, in grey sweat pants and a t-shirt, barefoot and with wet hair, standing in the bedroom looking down at the floor. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tom, IntSec : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : She was aware of someone entering their quarters, but Sage didn’t move. She was rooted to the spot, staring at the bracelet as if it were a deadly viper that might leap her way. When she saw the all black uniform in her peripheral vision, she knew the IntSec officer had arrived. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “It’s right there.” She pointed at the offending object. “Someone tried to transport me when I started to try it on. If I hadn’t fallen and severed my connection with it, I don’t know where I’d be right now.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : —Sage : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Calvin arrived a hulking form behind Jarvis. Agitated, but still aware enough to process he could tell immediately that Jarvis wasn’t the threat even without the few words he over-heard. =^=Marius - Bridge, I want a sensor sweep of anything within transporter range.=^= He continued speaking as he walked into the room. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : He moved towards Sage, “Outside…” He scanned the room. If they were close enough to try a transport. They were close enough to try a blind transport of whomever was in the room. Calvin had come at a run as well and didn’t stop to pick up a phaser. He would need a phaser. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Your weapon.” He held his hand out to Jarvis. Given his position it was fairly clear that he intended to take the needle gun and the bracelet and surprise whomever it was with Marius as opposed to a half naked Sage. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Marius : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sage was almost through the doors and into the corridor when she heard Cal demand Jarvis’ weapon. She turned, grabbing the door frame, and yelled. “NO! Cal, no! We don’t know who it is! You can’t just have yourself transported in to a blind situation.” She swept back damp hair from her forehead. “We need to talk about this before anyone does anything!” Besides, she would feel totally vulnerable to whoever was trying to nab her if he suddenly wasn’t around to ensure her feeling of safety. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : —Sage : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tom held up the needler that looked like a flashlight, “If you don’t hit porous cloth or skin the gel darts will be useless. Most humanoid targets between thirty two kilos and sixty four kilos will be incapacitated with one dart. Larger or more robust targets will take two. The chemical compound will be lethal to smaller or frail targets. Untrained with this weapon, your effective range will be around ten meters.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tom pulled a small knife from his belt, “Give me your hand. I need a blood sample for the biometrics if you want to use this.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tom, IntSec : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Marius pursed his lips firmly as he stared at Sage. He paused for a moment as he considered her words. He knew already he was putting himself at an outrageous risk, he didn’t need Sage to make him aware of that, but the transport itself had to be safe and after that… he might have the advantage of surprise. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : He didn’t say anything but extended his hand towards Tom so he could cut him. “How many rounds? Is it an automatic?” He continued to stare at Sage. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Marius : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The point of the knife moved and Marius never felt it’s touch, but there was a single drop of blood on a finger tip. Tom spoke as he pulled the magazine, it looked like the end cap of a flash light except for the cylinder of the propellant tank with the small translucent darts lining the inside. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “It’s eight shots, semi-auto, binary propellant.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tom pulled the tiny receiver and touched a small crystal plate to the blood drop and reassembled the weapon. It only took him four seconds from start to finish. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Here’s a pouch with six more magazines. You have a total of fifty six shots. Squeeze here and here to eject the magazine. Press another one on and give it a quarter turn to the left. A quarter turn to the right and it’ll pop like a micro grenade after five seconds aerosolizing and dispersing the compound in a three meter diameter cloud. If you twist a half turn either direction it pops immediately.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tom didn’t like sharing his toys as he made most of them himself, but if the XO insisted on going alone there wasn’t much Tom could do about it. He wondered how Marius was going to remember Tom’s instructions three minutes after he beamed out, if he beamed out. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Tom, IntSec : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: So what I’m curious about it why neither of you has asked where the bracelet came from? Yes, you both walked into a serious situation, but rather than seeing if Marius can get beamed away with the bracelet, why aren’t there other questions about what’s going on? : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : D… : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Tom would have gotten there eventually. : : : : : : OOC: First priority kill… : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Luke : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Although a different question. Would he forget how to do a task just because Tom told him… wouldn’t he just forget how he learned it. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: He won’t remember verbal instructions from Tom unless he listens to a recording after leaving Tom’s presence, or reads it written. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : This time Sage took hold of Calvin’s arm. “No! You can’t take a risk like this as if its nothing, Cal.” She looked from her husband to the IntSec officer. “The Lt here is ready to help us figure this out. Maybe he can trace the signal or something?” Her eyes looked hopeful. “Besides, we have to inform the Captain and get with Engineering to come up with something that won’t allow me to be transported anywhere. Right?” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : —Sage : : : : : : : : : : : : Marius just squinted at her for a moment. It sounded like he was growling. =^=Marius to Bridge raise the shields go to red alert… give me a full senor sweep out to maximum transporter range.=^= That wasn’t too far, so the ship would have to be concealed somehow… cloaking device… or the like. : : : : : : : : : : : : He handed Tom back his pistol. “Maybe next time, thanks anyway.” If Tom was anything like him, he didn’t like turning over his weapon for any reason. He was grateful, although he didn’t like projectile weapons particularly ones with low impact strength… “Might want to figure a way to have more than six shots that need to hit bare skin.. sounds like a low probability weapon.” : : : : : : : : : : : : Marius : : : : : : : : Tom’s eyes moved slightly. If Marius didn’t know any better Tom might have just started to roll his eyes and thought better of it. : : : : : : : : “The compound will readily soak through porous material to deliver the dosage. If you want a demonstration sometime, I can set it up with numbing agent.” he said as he tucked it back into his belt. : : : : : : Marius wasn’t particularly in the mood for Tom’s sarcasm. He wasn’t about to volunteer to get shot, given the fact that he spent the majority of his career avoiding being on the receiving end of a gun. : : : : : : : : : : Sage relaxed just the tiniest bit. She’d dissuaded Calvin from taking such a huge risk…for the moment. With the ship at Red Alert, she was a little more secure about her chances of staying on board and not being whisked away by some unknown transporter. “C’mon, Cal, let’s get out of here and let the Lt do his thing.” She gave the room a quick scan. “I don’t want to be here right now. Ok?” : : : : : : : : : : She was willing to run to the closet for a pair of shoes, but beyond that, she wanted to put some distance between herself and the bracelet still laying on the floor. : : : : : : : : : : —Sage : : : : : : : : Tom knelt on the floor next to the bracelet and took out a few small devices. Four of them looked like miniature pattern enhancers which he placed precisely around the bracelet. The other he unrolled, his portable interface film. The fifth was a module that hooked to the tops of the small stands connecting them and activating a blue field around the bracelet. Tom laid the interface film across the top and let it power up. Moments later he was initiating a scan of the bracelet with the small setup he’d placed over it. : : : : : : : : Tom, IntSec : : : : : : “Mr. Jarvis entered prior to me and offered me his weapon before I decided against transport… he is continuing examining the bracelet.” Marius said to no one in particular before tapping his combadge twice… : : : : : : He looked up toward Tom. “I await your report, Mr. Jarvis.” : : : : : : Marius : : : : Tom was focused on his work and absently waved a hand over his shoulder in acknowledgement. : : : : Tom, IntSec : : Tom would find upon further digging, that the box, note and bracelet had no fingerprints or DNA traces on them besides Sage’s. : : As he worked, Sage stepped over to the closet, slipped her feet into a pair of casual shoes and then took Calvin’s hand and led him out into the corridor. : : “You didn’t leave that bracelet for me, did you?” That meant that someone else had been in their quarters and that they were possibly still on the ship. : : “This is crazy. I wasn’t really worried about it, like you were, but I’ve changed my mind now. We have to find a way to keep me on the Genesis, no matter what this stalker comes up with.” : : —Sage

“Yes that’s a possibility.” He said as he walked along side her… He removed a pair of phasers from a weapon locker. He gave them both a quick once over to be sure they were operational and set on heavy stun before handing one to her, he kept one for himself. “It is equally likely since they tried to beam you out that they beamed the package in. The timing was pretty good too, because if it arrived at a different hour I would have seen it and taken it first.” He considered for a moment.

In sweatpants, there wasn’t really a good place to store the phaser, but just having it on her made Sage feel more secure. She tucked it into the waistband of her pants. “Let’s head to engineering to see what they can do to keep me on the ship.” She’d reached out and taken his hand again as soon as their phasers were tucked away. If someone was going to beam her off the Genny, they were going to get a surprise because Cal would appear at the destination too. “You’d better let Julien know what’s going on.” Marius watched her tuck the phaser in her waist band and frowned. He went back to the weapons locker and removed a sash that was used belt/velcro holster for phasers… he had seen too many accidents from dropping weapons. “Use this.” “I brought the ship to yellow alert and raised the shields.. they should have reported that to him already…” He paused… of course if they had Julien would have called him by now.

Tom shifted his scanner set to a component scan. While the devices were busy with that, he used another device from his belt to attempt a signal trace.

Tom, IntSec

It would take some highly skilled hacking knowledge (or really advanced technology) from Tom to eventually find out that the trace led to the auxiliary bridge of the Genny, itself. (This is assuming that the aux bridge is not manned all the time. If it is, I will have to change the location.)

OOC: Tom is a very skilled hacker with highly specialized tools, but as you’re running this, it’s entirely up to you to determine if Tom can successfully trace the signal. The line of logic I’m following is that the bracelet would have to transmit a signal to an active receiver or signal amplifier. The device is small and the power output of the transmitter would have to be quite low to avoid detection, so the range would be very short, maybe half a kilometer. As the transport attempt stopped when Sage removed the bracelet there’s reason for Tom to believe that the bracelet won’t transport out if he pings the signal and monitors for responses in the various systems of the ship.

But none of this really matters if you don’t think it’s time for the next step in your story.

OOC: Judd, going to send you an email.
D…

I hope I’m not in trouble.

Marius pursed his lips, while Tom worked scientifically, he would look at it logically.

=^=Marius to the Captain… It appears that someone has attempted a covert transport, kidnapping, of our chief medical officer… understandably I’m a little miffed.”
