Chan stepped on to the holodeck she was hoping for a good place to relax and unwind. It felt that she hadn’t had much of a chance to do that the past few weeks. So much had happened so quickly. She had received bad news, then changed departments, then got promoted and now she was trying to fix the mess that was the robotics department. She was glad to finaly have a break.Chan had picked her favorite program, she hadn’t fired it up in a while but she knew it was just what she needed.
As soon as Chan entered the holodeck she was greeted by the scene of a softly lit french bistro. The walls lined with tables and chairs. A stage at the front and a bar at the back. the bar was made of french mahogany and the chairs where all metal with leather cushions. the carpet where a rich red in color and soft and almost bouncy. Steps lead down to a large seating are full of conversing characters and attentive listeners to the music being played. All the characters where dressed in 1940s army, air force and navy uniforms from all the allied countries. As well a few civilian characters dotted about. Chan looked own at herself and found she was wearing the uniform of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) the female arm of the royal air force. She smiled she was glad she had added the randomize uniform element. it meant whoever walked in would wear a random uniform form one of the three arms of the allied armies.
As she steeped further into the bistro the charters sprung to life. The room was filled with chatter and soft piano music coming form the stage. Light puffs of smoke where coming from lit cigarettes and candles on the tables, of course it was simulated so it was absolutely harmless. Chan knew a far few people would not agree with the inclusion of smoking but she felt it added to the aesthetic of the whole program On the stage stood a beautiful women in a long white gown. Her hairs was blonde and her eyes where a stark blue. she sang that old black magic.
Chan walked to the bar and smiled at the young mam behind the bar “New in town are you?” he asked
“Just got in this morning” Chan replied happily. “I’ll have a glass of wine. please” She added
“Sure thing I’ll give you the house special.” the barman said as she pured a glass.
Chan took the drink and gave it a sip “A 1926 Château Margaux if I’m not mistaken” she said simply.
“You must have an exceptional palate.” He said surprise clear in his voice.
Chan shook her head “No I’m just good when it comes to wine. I’ll have a bottle if you please. I’ll be at that table ” she added pointing to table near the front. she then got up and took a seat. She loved 1940s music. it always made her happy. It was surprising that even though the humans where in the middle of a war, the songs they sang seemed to be joyful and hopeful.

Riley had been planning to check in with Chan since the promotion party on the holodeck. She’d seemed happy that night, but any change caused a bit of turmoil and he was keenly aware that she’d been more isolated since the birth of her daughter. There was little in life more demanding than being a single, working parent. He’d dropped by the robotics lab and finding her off shift had asked the computer to locate her. Unsure if she wanted company on the holodeck, he’d thought he’d try anyway and finding the door unlocked, he let himself in.
The scene that greeted his eyes was impressive, and unexpected. He’d half thought he’d find himself on Chan’s icy homeworld. As he looked down, he took in the kahki and olive uniform of a US air corps officer and let out a low whistle.
“Well, I’ll be,” he murmered to himself. “Isn’t that something?”
He didn’t spot Chan right off, so he worked his way to the bar and ordered himself two fingers of whiskey. With drink in hand he moved closer to the stage, his body naturally starting to move with the upbeat music. Closer in it was easy to spot Chan, although she looked quite different in the centuries’ old uniform. HE made his way to her table and put his hand on the back of a free seat.
“Mind if I join you?”
Dekker, CNS
Chan didn’t recognize the CNS at first the only issue with generating clothing. So she looked up and smiled thinking it was a hologram. As soon as she saw Dekker she stood up “Of course Counsellor” she said simply, gesturing to the free seat. Before sitting back down lifting her wine Glass she took a sip.
“How are you?” she asked “I bet you weren’t expecting something like this form me” she said politely.
Lt. Chan (SUb-DH Robotics)
Riley settled himself into the offered seat and took a sip from his drink, “Honestly, no. But I like it. It’s fun. I have to admit the automatic costumes are a nice touch.”
Riley turned his attention to the entertainment, enjoying the music. He’d known Chan long enough to not feel the need to fill the air with conversation every moment they were together.
He took another sip of his drink before turning to Chan, “How’s your new job going?”
Dekker, CNS
Chan sighed “It fine for the most part. However the previous Sub-DH seems to have been a clutter bug, I believe the human expression goes. The place was in a mess and many of the officer are not to fond of rules. I’ve managed to sort it out and things are starting to get better. Although I’m sure some of the officers don’t appreciate my stricter approach ” she said truthfully.
“It’s also given me more time to complete my robotics project. Its taken a year but at least now the prototype is done” she added after sipping her drink.
Lt. Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)
<BUMP> for CNS
(so it doesn’t get lost)Riley was no fan of clutter himself. His quarters were minimalist and his office only slightly less so, as he found too few personal items left his patients uneasy.
He took another sip of his drink, feeling himself relax in the festive environment, “What’s your project? That is, if you can tell me. Nothing classified?”
Dekker, CNS
Chan smiled “I call it the R.A.T. It stands for Remote Acquisition Tool. it’s a robot designed to withstand the harshest environments. Its even capable of surviving and running on a demon class planet for at least a year. It is a six legged robot with the ability to auto adjusts each leg as is necessary, so it can traverse and adapt to any type of terrain or planets surface. It has a laser cutter, pulse cannon for blasting away rock or any native life that tries to eat it, two robotic hands as dexterous as any humanoids, the latest scanners, solar powered generators, grappling hook to help it climb and it’s own storage and containment jars for samples that can be analysed at a later date. it can be operated either remotely or left to it’s own devices.” She said clearly proud of her project.
“I hope it will help us to understand more about the galaxy. As it able to go to places most forms of life cannot. ” Chan said then she paused “Sorry i got a little carried away there.” she added.
Lt Chan (Sub-DH robotics)
“You know I don’t mind when you get carried away. I’m not an expert in your field. Not even an apprentice really, but I find it fascinating that you can intertwine the detail of engineering with the visionary creativity less stereotypical of your profession. I’m guessing you’re hoping to test her out on one of the Genny’s missions? Being in uncharted space should give you plenty of opportunity.”
Dekker, CNS
“It’s not easy even for me. Before i built the R.A.T i went threw so many ideas and small projects.” she said truthfully. “I hope I’ll get the chance. However i want a second opinion but science appears to be ignoring me. I don’t know why.” she added.
Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)
Riley laughed at that, “I don’t know about the rest of his crew, but I do know David, and he tends to have tunnel vision. If he’s focused on something, anything outside that has a hard time gaining his attention. I may be able to help in that area.”
“Any help would be fantastic” Chan said genuinely appreciative of the offer.
Niniane had some time to spare and found an open-invite holo program running. When she looked into the description she decided it sounded interesting and stepped into it. The scene in front of her immediatelly made her feel comfy and at ease, even more as she looked down at herself… the program had decided to put her into the clothes of a well-off French lady, with a fur scarf and a black pencil skirt made of tweed.
She did notice Chan… an Andorian was kinda hard to over-look, but she was so deeply in conversation with the counselor, that Niniane decided to just sit at a bar, her bare knees peeking out of the skirt, quite like in the movies, and having a … what was that… ah right, a Gin Tonic with slices of cucumber in it and a bit of pepper. The bar tender gave her an appreciative look at her order and told her he would use the good tonic, not the normal one for her.
That made Niniane smile even more.
- Niniane Fahr, sci
The room was crowded, but until this point, there was only one mind for Riley to sense. Fahr’s entrance caused him to turn his head toward the bar.
“We have company,” he tilted his head toward the new arrival. “She may be able to help you with your project. Should we join her?”
Dekker, CNS
Chan nodded “Yes, Ensign Niniane Fahr. she just came in. noted us and then proceeded to the bar” she said simply “I have a tendency to keep one eye on a room and the other one the person I’m talking to. I guess it’s instinct.” she added as she got up.
“Good instinct.”
“Lets go have a chat” she said walking over to the bar .
“Hello Ensign” Chan said in greeting “Enjoying the program?” she asked.
Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)
Denobulan blue eyes focused on Chan and NIniane smiled. “Yeah sure, just was I was looking for this evening. Hey Chan, hello Counselor.” she said.
Riley tipped his cap to the Ensign, “Evening.”
On their way to the table she saw Ben coming in and waved at him. She didn’t know him well but since his promotion the whole ship knew him.
Ben hearing about this program from one of his squad members while they were on patrol together. Ben was in his family’s traditional emerald green wool tunic with dark brown slacks and brown boots. His hair was messy in which is what his intentions were. He then walked into the program and found a table off to the corner and sat down. He looked around and saw a few crewmates of his in here, but he remained in his seat.
Lt. (j.g.) Park,BO Tactical/Security
“Hey Ben, don’t be a loner, come on over to the table.” she said. After all it was an open invitation program and she had wanted to get to know the now-famous Ensign… Lt. jg. better for a while. Apparently he was also a good cook and cocktail mixer.
“I like the outfit the program has given me. Is it random?” she asked Chan.
- NIniane Fahr, sci
Chan nodded “Yep. I programmed a randomization protocol into the program. It was supposed to just replicate armed forces uniforms, but i guess i must have programmed it a bit to well and it picks civilian clothing as well now. ” she said a touch of pride in her voice.
“I wanted this program to be available to anyone. However i made sure i was the only one able to make changes. This program took a long time to create” she added after short pause.
Riley was glad to see Ben join them. He hadn’t had a chance to congratulate the man in person on his promotion and he was keenly curious to hear more about his holodeck “date” with Tigress. For now he just flashed the new Lieutenant a smile of greeting and pulled out a chair.
Dekker, CNS
Chan watched Park to see if he would join them or not. After all the more the merrier.
Lt Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)
It didn’t take long for Ben to work up the courage to join the others. He walked over to where the others were and nodded to everyone.
Lt. (j.g.) Park, BO Tactical/Security
Chan half smiled at him “Glad you could join us Lieutenant. so what do you think of the program?” she asked trying to start a conversation.
