Thomas ducked into his office. He was nearly ready for his now-approved leave stint, to confront and work through some things he’d been suppressing for so long, he’d just integrated the suppression into his daily life. The idea of unlocking and actually dealing with those things was both unnerving and exhilarating.

But before he could actually leave the ship, there was one last thing he needed to do. Packing had been done already, and his travel bag was sitting beside his desk. No, this was actually hand over the proverbial keys for while he was away.

Ben had been down in the hangar bays doing a security sweep when he got the request to stop in the Security office, “On my way.” Ben wondered what this was all about, hopefully he hadn’t screwed something up. Arriving at the office he entered a bit nervously, “What’s up boss ?” Ben noticed the tidied up office and desk and thought maybe he hadn’t been keeping it clean enough. Ben stood just inside the door waiting expectantly.

“I’m taking some emergency psychiatric leave at the recommendation of the Counselor, and the approval of the Captain,” Thomas said, bluntly. “I’ll be gone for about a month, and I’m leaving you in charge of Security while I’m away.”
