Dagen replied, “Sir, at least one could have a passive open linked channel to the shuttle’s comms. Comm badges only range to 500 kilometers so they would be hopelessly out of range, but if we link them to the shuttle which would be close range, the shuttle comms could relay anything to the Genesis from there. Given that the shuttle will be manned that should not be an issue to monitor and maintain.” Provided the shielding on their ship wasn’t too tight, that is. But that was a bridge to cross when they came to it.

“Well, do some of that Engineering stuff and make it happen.”

“Aye sir,” Dagen said. He had the distinct sense that the XO did not like him, but that was okay. Sort of. It wrangled at him but he had his share of people who did that. The Trill checked the roster of the ‘extra’ personnel on the away mission and selected one .. NE Whyso Sirius, and called him on the comms. This should be basic security comms for them; it was hardly warp physics. =^= Ensign, the Commander wishes to have a link to the negotiations. Assign a second comm badge to … the Counselor … and set it to transmit only to the shuttle. Open a channel on the same frequency from the shuttle to the Genesis so that the bridge can monitor the happenings and, if necessary, assist with language or other actions requiring the ships’ resources. =^= He closed the channel with a tap. As long as the person had the comm badge on transmit then if there was any problem Dagen could talk him through it - or they could just voice command the computer to do it. They had gone a long way since Alexa on Earth.

“Well Commander looks like you’re stuck with me Sir.” Ben smiled and slightly chuckled at the comment under his breath. Ben coughed and had his fingers on the away team’s signal in case for emergency beam out. “Also I have the away team’s signal in case we need to beam them out directly Sir.”

“I’ve been stuck with worse, Lieutenant. ” He took a deep breath. “You never make the same mistake twice, that’s more than most. You are earnest and hard working… don’t put yourself down.”

Thomas loitered around the rear of the Bridge, keeping an eye on the ship taking up most of the viewscreen. He watched the Genny’s shuttlecraft launch and head towards the Merry, wondering just how long it would be until he was playing RIO to Ens. Aevin.

When the shuttle entered the Merry and the doors opened, the Merry began to use various methods to scan the Genesis. They were using gamma rays and x-rays, ultraviolet and infrared spectrums. Their technology were not very advanced and they were only to scan the Genesis only when the Genesis stopped and was at this close range.

There had yet to be a report in regard to the ‘low’ tech scanning methods. Even if he did know it was occurring Marius would not begrudge them a little peek. He certainly would be curious if the positions were reversed and he certainly was planning on doing a far better job on the Merry than Merry was doing on them.

Dagen was looking at the XO and wondering what it was that the man was thinking. Everything was going fine so far, he thought. Casually he looked at the ships in the area. Their communications systems were fairly low tech. They could easily piggy back onto them to see what kinds of chatter was happening between the Merry and their home world. That was not a friendly thing to do, though, and could be frowned upon. Still, he looked at the communication ‘levels’ that were happening. If anything was going to go South the comms chatter would spike. He flagged the system to alert him if that did happen.

Otherwise if they got too nosy they could activate force fields on the shuttle. That wouldn’t stop scans but would mess with the readings.

Thomas was monitoring the commbadge as the Captain greeted the alien Admiral. So far, it looked like things were going swimmingly.

“Keep the ships on tactical. They might reveal their intentions by their ship movements.” They had to know the Genesis had the advantage they would be defensive and cautious and try to maximize any advantage they thought they had.
