Ashlyn paused every so often to help guide the Counselor through difficult parts to keep her moving but never made physical contact silently demanding that she put her own effort in. “I didn’t come from a ‘small place’, I came from a mining family on Makoa III and went from having friends and fairly normal life to…” There is a lot of muted mental activity, either thoughts or memories that she is unwilling or unable to share. The box, as she put it, holds a great many issues from her past that she is still working her way through, this is probably one of the things in that box. “I’m not open to this subject right now, let’s change the topic.” Since she came into the office, this one statement is the most closed-off Ashlyn has been on this ship. Even the usually noisy conference was silent.

If there had been a physical box in Trenton’s hands, it would not have been as real to Sienna as the one that lay in her mind. She could understand why it existed. Such things were commonplace among traumatized individuals, especially if their trauma was ongoing as opposed to a singular event or an event over a short period of time. This was their first meeting and Sienna wasn’t one to pry too hard into deeply personal issues right away. She wanted to get the lay of the land before she tried to navigate it.

The subject was dropped easily for now. She decided to give Ashlyn a task instead, orienting her to a direction rather than leaving the session with a vague sense of introduction. “Well, shielding is definitely something you should work on, especially when it comes to your job in security. So, let’s concentrate on working on that over the next little while. Practice on your own a bit, and we can meet in a few weeks to see how your efforts are going and where you need assistance. If it doesn’t work at all for you, that will give us a starting point. If it works sort of well for you, that gives us a starting point. Either way, we know where we stand and where you need improvement. How does that sound?”

Ashlyn was silently appreciative that the counselor willingly let the topic pass, most of the others had taken that as something to untangle and wanted to deal with it right away. The box was significantly heavy and there was plenty to deal with, but no one session would be able to get through it all. Instead, it would be up to Trenton to keep herself in check until she could appropriately deal with it. “I’m not sure a week will be enough time to work on shielding when I’ve never actively tried to do that. I’m not saying I won’t try, just that it may not be enough time to make progress. I can practice with Ensign Fayth and she can probably give me feedback to help me better understand what it is I’m doing. Anything else I should prepare for in the next week before our next meeting?” Ashlyn continued to climb upward, grasping the edge and pulling herself up onto the top platform so she could stabilize herself better to help the Counselor up to the top.
