“I feel like adulthood will be a great eye opener for you. Granted, perhaps tougher than some people’s, but not a bad thing I think. Vulcan can be a very peaceful place for a chaotic mind. I have visited there several times.” She could imagine that the child Fayth had found some comfort there. It had been smart of her parents to go that route. Many that end up born as a telepath and empath become psychotic and non functioning. Some, became extraordinary. “How do you think your extra perceptions are doing in conjunction with your chosen profession?”Nox, CNS
Sharah smiled softly and moved towards a rather unique looking plant near where she was sitting, that she hadn’t seen before. Vulcan had been almost as traumatic for her as the rest of her life. She didn’t find comfort in Vulcan at all. However, neither her face, eyes, mind, or emotions betrayed that thought. She turned back to the counselor and contemplated the question. “I don’t use it. Not without express permission from the patient. I have used it to help identify areas and types of discomfort. Often a patient can be confused or not sure how to describe how they are feeling, or what hurts. I’ve used both my telepathy and empathy to help them, but not without their permission. My professors that my ability to use their thoughts and feelings to pinpoint a diagnosis a gift. But they were under the impression I was using those talents when I was not. I think though that my own struggles for help and diagnosis have made me more emphatic towards my patients. My own natural empathy certainly drove me to be a doctor. When I was young, it was painful and scary to feel the hurt of all those around me, and not be able to stop from feeling it. And I had a need to help make their pain stop, and so I learned from my doctors how to do that.”
En. Fayth, Doctor
Since Fayth was locked down, Sienna was not privy to her discomfort about Vulcan. Was this something that would caused her mental pain and possible consequences later? SIenne could not help if the people she was trying to help would not be truthful with her. So, unknowing of the possible pain of her patient, she continued. “Being a doctor was some of the most rewarding of my life despite the fact part of it was during a war. In Star Fleet there are many ways to find purpose, but I am very partial to helping others directly such as doctors and psychiatrists do rather than through advancement of science and technology. I suppose you could call me a more hands on helper in that way.” She smiled. It was obvious that she enjoyed her job and had a real passion for it.”
“I think that is all the questions I feel necessary to ask. Is there anything you would like to ask me about me, about the ship, about your career, about your psychological needs? I am a pretty open book and glad to help in any way I can.”
Nox, CNS
“I have been seeing psychologists all my life. We will be spending a lot of time together,” Sharah really was an open book. She had private thoughts, like anyone else, and despite her doctors always describing her as open and honest, Sharah was a very private person. With most people she was quiet and shy appearing, but she’d spent her life with doctors and had no such problems with them, “There will be things I will want to talk about, that I will HAVE to talk about. It’s part of the treatment for my condition. And although the arboretum, any arboretum really, is the second most comfortable place I know, there are topics I don’t feel comfortable discussing in such an open area where others can hear, or even perceive to hear.” And Sharah ever the professional doctor, “I would assume that if there was anything I needed to know about you, as it concerns how you approach my treatment, you would tell me. Anything else is your prerogative to disclose as you feel comfortable. Respect for personal space, physical and mental, is an important priority to me.”
En. Fayth, Doctor
“I find that at this hour, this area is rarely used, but I can see that it might make someone uncomfortable to spill much beyond first meeting information here. I will gladly accommodate any future meeting need for privacy. And I don’t think there is anything necessary you need to know about me to get your treatment except that I am a highly educated in both medical and psychological issues and a well rounded base of clients I have seen over the years, though only those on this ship are my current work load. The others are in another universe so, hard to treat them myself.”
Nox, CNS
Sharah was not stupid, certainly no counselor, but she had plenty of experience in being a patient of one. Often counselors, psychologists, therapists, would put out statements just to see how you react. “I wonder, Lt., are you trying to gauge my reaction or did you accidentally just tell me that you are from a different universe? I have no way of knowing if this is common knowledge on board.” Sharah spoke softly her tone polite and questioning. “I believe that if you are, as your patient I would want to know this. I assumed because you are Betazoid you would be familiar with my condition. But perhaps not. Perhaps in your universe there are not overly sensitive telepaths. Of maybe they are the norm? or sought after, or perhaps pariah. And more importantly I think it could possibly affect my treatment as a patient if the morals and ethics you were raised with were fundamentally different than the ones in this universe.” Sharah found the whole idea rather fascinating from an intellectual point of view. And on the other hand Sharah felt for the Lt. She didn’t need to be empathic, in fact she wasn’t using her empathic talents at all, to know that if she herself was stuck in another universe she would greatly miss her family and loved ones.
En. Fayth, Doctor
“I do not hide the fact that I am indeed from another universe here on board, or at least not since shortly after I first arrived. Once I was assigned to the Europa, it is a part of my public records for both Security and Medical.” She smiled softly though there was a small amount of sadness that came to them as she thought of her home. “I will gladly answer your questions and reassure you as to your care.”
“As far as Star Fleet and I are able to tell, our universes are very similar. In fact, they are almost identical in every major way. There are a few advances that are different, none of which affect my handling of my patients. Betazoids are the exact same in both places as far as I can tell as is their treatment and the rarity of your condition. There are some differences though. I know some people here that are slightly different where I came from. Commander Range, a former Security officer here was actually a friend of mine in my universe. His wife and child were still alive there and lost here. Also, the man who is my husband in my universe, is obviously not my husband here. And my mirror is a medical doctor turned XO whereas I am a medical doctor turned psychologist. She is currently stuck in my universe and I in hers.”
Nox, CNS
She accepted the counselor’s answers to her questions. The whole situation must be very difficult for the counselor. “I hope counselor you take this as it is meant. I am very sorry for your loss, for it is great. To know that your loved ones are alive and well and unable to be with them, would be a terrible situation to be in.” She missed Joseph terribly and she could not imagine being in the counselor’s shoes. To know her Imazdi was so close and to not be able to be with them. To see him every day but know that it is NOT him. Of course she didn’t know if the counselor’s husband, or husband’s duplicate? was on board, but it still must be very difficult. “I certainly don’t have your experience but if you should need someone to listen I am happy to do that for you. Though perhaps you consider that inappropriate?” Sharah could not stand for anyone to hurt, whether she was able to feel it or simply tell from the things they said and did.
En. Fayth, Doctor
“I do not consider having friends being inappropriate. I also very much appreciate the offer and the sentiment, though I must admit, I have been very closed off about the subject. There is a lot I am under orders not to reveal, and a lot that would make life complicated for others if I was to reveal it. Best not to really talk about it much. In a general sense, I am dealing with it as I should. I hope one day I shall see my husband again.” She took a deep breath and let it out. She never hid her sadness from others, though she did temper it in the presence of people who were sensitive so as not to overwhelm. Fayth would be one such person. It was a good thing that Sienna had been shielding herself pretty constantly on board the Europa before the young woman’s arrival. She had had plenty of practice to keep her skills strong.
Her fingers touched on her wedding band, simply elegant and delicate. “Well, if there isn’t any other concerns you have for now, I shall mark you as approved for duty. Do let me know if there is any changes, or anything you need. My door is always open and I am sure you will know where to find me.”
