“Noted,” Cass called towards Trenton. “But, Ensign. Stop and carefully come to me. We’ll help everyone, but we need to take precautions first. I’ve got equipment. Breathing is useful,” she said with a light tone hoping to help quell the slight tone of panic she thought she detected in the ensign’s voice. She moved towards them but at moderate pace.

Reaching into her bag, she took out a rebreather that would filter out the worst of the smoke, though it wasn’t an air supply.

Sharah let Ashlyn sound off and kept moving toward astrometrics. She heard Cassidy call for them to return, but she was already in astrometrics and with Ki’lain. She was able to get into the room. Lt. Ki’lain was passed out from the smoke. “Ashlyn, I need a re-breather! Cassidy already called us back. I’m not leaving her here. Go ahead. I’ll wait here till you make it back.” Sharah raised her voice through the smoke and all the alarms and noise going off. Making sure Ashlyn could clearly understand her. She wasn’t in charge here and she wasn’t trying to order Ashlyn, but Sharah was trained for emergency medicine and that part of her took over keeping her calm for the time being. Sharah was sure that she’d get written up for not returning immediately. Sharah took another strip of cloth and rewet it placing it gently over Ki’lain’s nose and mouth. It wouldn’t be enough at this point though. “And bring someone back to help carry her.” To prevent Ashlyn from hesitating she shooed her off. “I’m fine, go.” Sharah scanned Ki’lain with the tricorder with one hand while prepping 50mls of Dexalin in case it showed any oxygen deprivation already taking effect.

Ashlyn took a look around and scan of Astrometrics, observing the damage caused by the explosion, trying to decern what happened in the room. The conference were all calling details very rapidly and nearly on top of each other making her head sound like a shouting match as each gives another detail of the room. “No time! There is a feedback in the EPS manifolds that is originating outside of Astrometrics. We need to leave before the feedback reaches the next relay and causes another explosion!” Ashlyn rolls the lieutenant onto her back and repositions her feet as close to her body as possible. In a quick motion, Ashlyn stepped on Ki’lain’s feet with her right foot and pulled the body over her shoulders with a grunt into a fireman’s carry. “Scan on the run Doc, we gotta get out of here!” Adrenaline has kicked in and though the weight was heavy, Ashlyn pushed though it to start moving though clearly not as fast as she usually is. “We’re coming back Lieutenant Abrams, one casualty, smoke inhalation!” She wasn’t sure if or when the next explosion would happen, but she wasn’t about to let her friend stay in the place it most likely would happen if she could help it. If she was going to stay with the casualty, then the casualty had to move.

OOC: Be careful about presuming too much about a scenario you’re not running. The EPS explosion was the actual cause of the original explosion. There’s nothing to explode now. But I will allow it… partly. ;)

(OOC: I apologize, I didn’t have a clear definition and ran away with the image on what I thought was going on based on the extent of damages in this and other threads. I had been led, with the injured member, and the heat from Astrometrics based in this thread https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/europa/posts/95024/, to believe that Astrometrics was a highly hazardous zone.)

OOC: Astrometrics itself is safe(ish), but the area around it was where the explosion went off, affected the adjacent corridors and the ned of the hall where the turbolit is. A console connected to the same system with the issue exploded on Ki’lain, and that’s why she ventured out of of the lab and into the corridor, only to find it worse off. We’re all good though. Carry on with the madness. So long as we don’t entirely destroy the ship and/or required drydock, the CO won’t get mad. Or so he’s said. We might get a bill for the damage later. lol.

IC:
Cassidy was frowning at the two ensigns and knew that there would be a discussion to be had. Later. She was in the edge of where the smoke had been, but the ventilation system was working hard to clear it and it was getting easier to see what was going on. “Bring her here!” Abrams ordered as she pulled out the med kit she had brought with her. “Get her stable enough to get to Sickbay and then get her there,” she said, her tone explaining exactly how unimpressed she was with both of them.

Abrams, COS

Ashlyn took her time gently setting Ki’lain down near Lieutenant Abrams so that Sharah could work on her. She had acted on instinct and adrenaline so she understood why Abrams seemed rather upset with her choices and she wasn’t going to argue them either. Instead, Trenton leaned back against the wall to relax her heart rate and fight through the developing headache. With how helpful they are, at this point, the Conference was more a burden than a blessing and she put most of them to rest so her mind could quiet enough for Sharah to work. Trenton wanted to take advantage of the lull in the activity, there were plenty more that were going to need help in a moment.

Fayth ignored the medkit. She had one of her own. She knew what she had to do and didn’t need the COS to tell her what that was. She knew going in she’d get dressed down. The only one she was worried about was Doctor Zarath. He was her DH and she answered to him, and she would take whatever punishment was given, she wouldn’t leave people she could help. They were the first to arrive and they were cautious. They followed first responder protocol. Just because they were ensigns didn’t make them incompetent. She sucked it up and looked at Abrams and with all the respect that she had for anyone in security, which was a lot, she spoke, “With your permission Lt. I have a designated safe area just around the corner. I’d prefer to treat her there.” She was the doctor in charge, and she was an expert in emergency medicine. She would not be cowed by non medical personnel. Trenton would be slightly shocked at the sudden steel in Fayth’s spine. She’d never seen her actually work at her job. Usually Fayth was shy and reserved, but apparently not when she was working on the injured and sick.
En Fayth, Doctor

Cassidy was in a safe area, so she wasn’t sure what the ensign was on about, but the actual safer area was off this deck. “I believe my orders were pretty basic. Get her stable, and then get her to Sickbay. I don’t particularly care which part of the deck you check her out in, but we’re not turning the deck into a triage area, so get her out of here. Preferably with some backup.” She cast as glance between the two ensigns. “You had the wherewithal to enter the situation with a medkit but not to gather the necessary safety equipment for the situation?” she said, thrusting the rebreather at Fayth. This wasn’t about being unfairly chewed out. This was about common sense. “First responder basics: you can’t help others if you don’t help yourself first,” Abrams said firmly. She wasn’t yelling, in fact, despite her words and tone, she was quite calm.

Sharah knew emergency medicine and survival medicine too. She didn’t have time for Abrams assumptions. She went to put the rebreather on Ki’lain. She’d make a report to Zarath later. Abrams might be in a safe area now but this was not when she first designated an area and if anyone had bothered to check the..oh nevermind.

“We’ll come back this way in a minute,” the COS said to Fayth, before focusing on Trenton. Her clear blue eyes said everything. “If you’re not requiring medical attention Ensign, you’re with me.” It was not a request.

But before they could take off, Lieutenant Ki’lain, whose vitals had been stable enough but had been suffering from smoke inhalation, starting coughing. Her eyes fluttered open and she coughed some more. Taking in the doctor near her and the other standing, she shakily reached a hand out to Cassidy. “Zorell,” she said, before coughing.

“Ki’lain I need you to stop talking and breath the clean air in. I’m going to get you to Sickbay. The security team is good at their job. They’ll find everyone. Just relax. Trust them.” Sharah could feel the fear and confusion around the deck. The team needed to get going and she needed them to move so she could work. She gave Ki’lain the 50mls of Dexalin for oxygen deprivation. =^=Fayth to transporter chief. I have one to beam directly to sickbay, from my location.=^=, =^=Fayth to Sickbay and Doctor Zarath. 1 incoming, severe smoke inhilation and already given 50mls of Dexalin for oxygen deprivation. Possible further complications. Prepare for 3 more momentarily for assumed minor injuries.=^= Ki’lain disappeared in shimmering light of the transporter and she grabbed her medkit and moved to the area designated as a safe zone.

Cass’ heart seemed to skip a beat before she caught herself and crouched down to the other scientist, someone she had worked side-by-side with for years previously. “Vora? Where is she Lia?” she said, gripping her hand.

“Left just a minute or so before the explosion,” Ki’lain said before her eyes seemed to go dazed again.

Nodding, Abrams was on her feet. “We’ll find her,” she said with confidence. She was already planning on doing a sweep, but now they were going to have to do not only an in
depth one but but do it quickly. Gesturing to Ashlyn with her head, the COS’ demeanour had suddenly shifted as she moved cautiously into the area that the fire suppression system was clearing more rapidly. It was going to take awhile from the looks of it though. “Eyes open,” she said softly.
