Greiss peeked his head through the doorway at the science lab, which was relatively busy, considering that it was one of three. In his hands was a large box containing what looked to be numerous electronic scraps and components. He casually walked to the opposite end of the lab, hoping that the rattle of the innards of his box would not clue anyone to his plans. Eyes darting from person to person, he slowly approached an apparatus at an unattended desk. Once close, he turned his back to face the device, and grabbed some type of green circuitry chip, placing it behind him, and into one of the trays of the machine. He hummed to himself to mask the low whirr it made. After a few seconds of intently watching the science officers, he grasped for the chip, and holding it close to his face, he smirked. Placing it back into his box, he began to remove a part of the machine.~Ensign Winston Greiss, Engineer
In the corner workstation, one of the scientists stood out a little more than usual. Mostly it was the cowboy hat he wore when he could get away with it. At least he wore his duty boots after being chewed out about the cowboy boots enough over the years. Though, Marsh was pretty easy going, so it usually wasn’t him doing the nitpicking about regulations. Tipping his hat up, he peered at the new ensign curiously. “Hey, Newbie,” Clint said with a heavy trace of a drawl in his voice. “Watcha up to?”

Winston turned to face Clint, eyes wide with anxiety. “Nothing. At least nothing that would interest you. Boring engineer stuff!” He faked a yawn and shifted into an uninterested expression. He tried his hardest to make it seem as if he was actively using the device, rather than disassembling it for components. As Greiss leaned over to carefully pry at a panel, a glimpse could be caught of his box. From Clint’s distance, it was possible to make out the presence of a beige box with a glass panel on the front, a small plastic console with worn buttons, and a large stack of black tape-based video cartridges.

Now, Clint Marshall was often on the wrong sides of many conversations and he wasn’t a man of ambitions, but he was pretty smart and had good instincts. Turning on his stool, his feet in the floor and he rose in a smooth motion. Engineers didn’t hang out in the science labs for no reason, and in fact they tended to have their own spaces, so now his attention was focused on the slightly sketchy behaviour of the other ensign.
Marshall moved over to Griess and slid folded arms on the table, leaning on the top and gazing at him at an angle, his face partly obscured by the cowboy hat. “What are we playing with today? I’m always down for a little build and rebuild.” Not his speciality in the least, but it was true he liked to tinker on occasion.
