Sharah heard that the ship’s counsilor was another Betazoid. She was nervous. She’d not been around another Betazoid after she left for the academy. She was anxious and excited to have someone to talk to that might understand her difficulties on more than an intellectual level. Sharah walked up to the office door and rang the chime.NE Engineer Smyth looked up as the chime rang. He wondered idly if it was the counselor and then shook his head. He knew the counselor would not chime in to enter her own office. He said “Come in”.
The doors opened with an office broken up into two sections. The first and most immediate upon walking into the doorway was the official desk space. Sienna, as usual, sat there working on reading files of incoming officers. She was dressed in her uniform and silky dark brown hair was up in a tidy french style knot. They were to have a good chunk of them arriving any day now. Her desk was uncluttered, with only a few PaDD’s on its surface and a cup of iced lavender lemonade. It was about half empty at the moment.
The other side, a little angled away from the desk area, was a sitting area with nice size window looking out into space. In front of the window was a cozy looking warm dark green couch with low coffee table and two cozy matching chairs opposite. The warm wood table had a tray ready for tea and some flowers in a vase, colorfully arranged. Two more arrangements sat on the wide windowsill between the window and couch. A multi colored glass shard mobile hung in the corner beside a series of floating shelves. On the shelves, she had a set of real books and a statue of the USS Korolev.
After gainng permission to enter Sharah stepped and looked around. A counsilor’s office told her a lot about how that person might address her issues. She walked over to the desk and stood at attention, “Ensign Sharah Fayth reporting for onboard evaluation.” Sharah held out a PaDD with her rather formidible file.
Ensign Fayth, Doctor
However, the Counselor was not present, only the Engineer who was diligently working on the desk. The top was completely off and the Engineer had his hands in the innards doing god knows what. He looked at the new Ensign and the PaDD she held out. “Hey. If you are looking for Lt. Nox, she is not here. I think she said something about having breakfast in the Arboretum. I suppose you should go there.”
Siennadye was indeed in the Arboretum in a small alcove meant to be sort of a private picnic area. A ring of flowers as well as a second ring of trees decorated the area and provided shade. The counselor was sitting on a blanket looking perfectly at ease as she ate some fruit from a pile. Along with the fruit, there were also plates of a myriad of breakfast foods. Sienna herself was dressed in her uniform with her dark chocolate colored hair up in an intricate knot.
She looked up as the newest doctor for the Europa approached. While Sienna did not mind the fact that her desk had practically blown up that morning, it did make her appointments for the day a little more complicated. Then again, she never minded a good challenge, and at least half of of her appointments and talks with crew happened in other places than her office. (Picture: https://tinyurl.com/yae8a7vg)
Nox, CNS
Seeing Nox sitting in the arboretum made her smile. She walked over and handed the PaDD with her records to her. “En. Sharah Fayth.” But that was as far as she got. She gave herself a seat next to the flower beds and dug her hands into the dirt. The flowers here were happy and the humming she heard was beautiful. Her eyes looked a little far away and a soft smile crossed her face. After a moment, her focus came back and she looked sheepish. “I’m sorry. I got excited. The flowers here are beautiful. The arboretum will always be my favorite place on a ship.”
Sienna smiled and took the PaDD. She confirmed receipt and handed it back to the Ensign, eventually just placing it on the blanket near her lap. She waited patiently for the distractions, pleasant as they were, to wear off a bit. It did not bother her that Sharah had let herself stay in the peace of the space. She imagined the woman rarely got that. With Sienna herself wrapped up tight mentally, there was little here to listen to in the way that Sharah did.
Sharah wasn’t sure how Nox would respond to her. She tried very hard to keep the chaos that was her mind very contained. She still heard it but she wanted to make sure Nox didn’t. Other Betazoids sometimes had a hard time if they picked up on the sheer amount of information that raced through her mind daily.
En. Fayth, Doctor“No need to apologize Ensign Fayth. I imagine there are few places as calm mentally as the Arboretum is, even with people milling about in here. It’s a peaceful place even for a chaotic mind. That is why I changed your appointment to meet me to here. My office is pretty peaceful as there are are rarely occupied state rooms all around it. However, my desk decided to be finicky and blow up so Engineering is having to look at it. Help yourself to some breakfast. I have been nibbling for quite some time already. How are you settling in?”
Nox, CNS
Sharah nodded, thinking. She only knew of one place that was truly peaceful for her, but that was out of reach now and the Arboretum was certainly the next best thing. “I love the Arboretum. Especially this one, or one just like it. The first time I was ever on a star ship was a discovery class, the USS Galileo. I made a life long friend in that arboretum. And I discovered that working with plants was very calming for me. I am always…” she searches for the word to describe how she feels, “calmly ecstatic to be around plants.” She looks at the food, “Thank you, counselor, I already ate, but I will take a glass of water.” She takes a sip after getting a glass. “I didn’t know desks could blow up. I hope you weren’t hurt.” Sharah looks around the garden again looking like she’s in another place. “So far it is going well. Dr Zarath has put me on 48 hours of rest before returning to duty. We came in very late and were up for check ins early and the lack of sleep gave him pause. I actually have a roommate on board, I didn’t on Challenger. It just happened that way, I guess. But I served with her on Challenger and she is very good friend. I’m excited and nervous and,” she laughs at herself, “bright eyed for the future.”
En Fayth, DoctorShe smiled, observing the young woman. Her physical motions, her facial expressions, her wandering eye to the plants around them all told Sienna as much as her senses both normal and extra. She could tell the truth in the Ensigns excitement to start something new, the happiness of having a comrade already known, and the nervousness of a new assignment and new people to please. They were fairly normal emotions to have upon a new assignment, especially one’s first. She ate quietly fruit and cheeses, quite happy to let the young woman talk as much as she liked.
“It is comforting to have someone you know serving with you. Interesting that she is also your roommate. I would not have put you both together. I wonder how that happened. Not that I would think you did not get along, but rather, I find it important to allow our newest post-academy graduates a little more room to grow. Generally I find that if they are grouped together when they are assigned to the same ship, the form a sort of clique and it takes longer for them to spread out and gain new friends. Do you think that will be a challenge for you?”
Nox, CNS
Sharah thought about it. “Perhaps my CMO on Challenger felt bad for me and made the request. A mind I am familiar with is easier to rest around than someone new. I was very sick while on Challenger. But there is a great deal of us arriving from Challenger, so there may not have been much of a choice but to put some of us together.” Sharah took a sip of water, unknowingly immitating someone very close to her, and thought about the next question. “Making friends is always hard for me. People don’t like that I seem to be distracted and not pay attention. I have a very good memory despite that appearance, and they tend to assume I’m reading their thoughts when I can actually recall the conversation on my own. They think I wasn’t paying attention. I don’t do that. It all comes too fast in my mind for me to process it all anyway. Well unless they WANT me to hear and then the thoughts get louder.” Sharah was sure that Lt. Nox understood what she meant. “But I am eager to make new friends. And my room mate is in a totally different department, so I won’t be seeing her that much anyway.” Sharah smiled.
