(snip)

Vora couldn’t help but chuckle at all the antics. It sure sounded like chaos, but the fun kind. The kind that you made good memories from. “Well, it’s been ten years now, which is unusual, but sort of how things worked out. But my first days were a bit rough and awkward. At the Academy I could just buckle down and focus on my studies but out here I had to really find my place. I hadn’t been in the Federation all that long really, so I was still getting use to dealing with other species and their customs and colloquialisms.” She tapped her head. “Lucky for my I’ve got an eidetic memory. It definitely made some parts easier.”

Lt. (j.g.) Zorell, Sciences

Sharah nodded, “I find I struggle a lot with what people mean. I often can remember everything they say,” or think or feel or…sigh “but I don’t always understand the nuances.” Sharah absently tugged her hair for a moment and then quickly picked up her glass and took a slow sip of her water focusing on the taste and temperature of the water and the feel of the glass in her hand. The waves in the room had suddenly grown. So many different minds and different species made the rhythm of the ship change constantly. She focused really hard and pushed herself back above it. She smiled at Zorell. “So what is your position? I’m a doctor.”
En. Fayth, Doctor

Vora almost said ‘yeah, you already said that’, but since people didn’t have her level of memory, they normally got irritated when you pointed such things out. “Scientist. I used to be focused on geology, but I’ve been dealing with stellar phenomenon these day,” she said. It had been an adjustment, but she had been glad for a new challenge, and one that wasn’t so closely tied to her past on Tenra. She dug into her stew, sending up wafts of deep spices, hoping that it wouldn’t be too much for the doctor. Some people were particular about food smells, but for her she ate the things that were attached to good memories and this stew was one of them.

Lt. (j.g.) Zorell, Sciences

Sharah heard Zorell’s quickly squashed thought. She hadn’t mean to repeat herself, she thought over the conversation to see where she had blundered. She made a strong mental note to speak succinctly and directly with Zorell in the future. Much as Sharah wished people would think in their heads. Shara enjoyed the aroma. It was strong and rich. It helped ground her. She wanted to ask what it was, she loved trying out new foods, but didn’t want to interrupt the Lt.’s meal any more than she had. Sharah turned back to her sandwich and focused on getting her lunch finished before she had to get going again.
