Sharah took a deep breath and walked into sickbay. She nodded to a nurse. “Ensign Fayth reporting for duty and onboarding physical. I brought in the medical records last night when the shuttle arrived.” Sharah is short, 5’2”, with blue black hair that curls and bounces with the slightest movement. It is the bane of her daily routine. She has all black eyes, the mark of her Betazoid heritage. She entered sickbay, instinctively feeling the presence of those around her. While she waited for the doctor she took the time to feel the mental rhythm of the room and then surf above it. It wouldn’t stop her from hearing the thoughts and feelings of others, but it would allow her to ignore what they said. She continued to look around sickbay. The base layout was just like Challenger but some things appeared to be in different places, probably to accommodate the types of medical proceedures performed most often. With her she had a PaDD with her transfer orders as well as her research she had conducted on the Challenger. She was hoping to get permission to continue her research and possibly have a portion of the arboretum designated for growing plants for her research. She’s be quite happy to take over there as well, since her brief glance at the personnel told her there was not a botanist on board. On her off hours of course. Her medical duties would come first. The NE motioned her towards a biobed. Sharah hoped up onto it, took a deep breath. She had to go over her condition and medical history, again, but this time she wasn’t as stressed over it as she had been the last time she had an onboarding physical.
OOC: Whoops got too excited forgot my signature
Ensign Fayth, DoctorThe “nurse” was, in actuality, an Andorian man of about fifty years. The only feelings emanating from him were calm confidence, and what might have been boredom. Any other senses she might try to get from him with her inborn psionic abilities wouldn’t turn up much. He wasn’t more than five or six inches taller than Fayth, and was thin, with snowy white hair cut to a regulation length, brown eyes, and sky blue skin. His demeanor was a bit dour, and he moved with a limping step, using an ebony cane to assist him. Also, in actuality, there was no other medical staff present. Once she was on the bio-bed, the Andorian began to scan Fayth with a medical tricorder and it’s attachment. His antennae seemed to quest to and fro as he did this, though he did not look at her.
Sharah knew there were some species that Betazoids couldn’t read well. Apparently Andorians were one of them. She made her feel immensely better and optimistic for her time working with him. She never pried into other peoples thoughts on purpose, but her condition often made her intentions a moot point. She knew from her transfer orders this was her new CMO and she wasn’t sure if she should correct her mistake assuming a nurse would be there when she arrived, but since she didn’t actually name anyone or rank in the room other than herself she decided to keep her mouth shut.
“Don’t worry about your medical file, I’ve already read it. The transfer orders too. We’ll take care of the filing later.” Now that he was standing by her side, beginning to run a scan, she might notice his rank insignia. His tone was a bit gruff, but not unkind. The Andorian Doctor also moved around the bio-bed with remarkable speed and grace for someone with a cane and a limp, often hanging the cane on the edge of the bed to utilize both hands for his scans. After another moment, he was finished. Curtly, he plugged the scanner back into the tricorder and placed the tool in his coat pocket. Then he stepped back half a pace and leaned on his cane and looked at her long and hard, his antennae curling back and forth as if they were taking a reading of some kind.
“Yes, Sir,” Sharah acknowledged. What did that mean? He’d read her file…well of course he did, that was his job. His tone was rather curt so maybe he felt she shouldn’t be here? He seemed kind though so maybe he felt bad for her, pitied her? Or maybe just knew being straight off graduation she was nervous? ‘Stop is Sharah and pay attention. You are not listening to his thoughts and speculation does you no good. Knock. It. Off.’ she berated herself.
“Do you have any combat experience, Doctor Fayth?” He asked, “Trauma Care, Emergency Triage?”
-Zarath, CMO
“No sir, no combat experience. I am rather dismal at it. I was trying to get my weapons proficiency before I left the academy but I can’t hit the broad side of a barn. My specialties are emergency and diagnostic medicines. I’ve run trauma care simulations during my time at the Academy and received high marks, but I have not personally deal in Trauma Care. There wasn’t a lot of that on cadet tour. I served as Triage care for Lt. Mika on board the Challenger. There were very few instances that required me to work in that capacity, but I did get some experience. My cadet project focused on creating a program to aid away teams access emergency medicines when medical crews were not available. I’m hoping to continue the research during my off hours, with permission, of course, Lt. Cmdr.”
En. Fayth, Doctor
The veritable flood of words he received in return reminded him that this young person was most likely nervous and high strung. So he leaned against a console with his hip, set the cane aside and raised his hands to gently halt her from going any further with questions or comments. “I see..” He began, his tone was just slightly kinder than it had been. “And ‘Doctor Zarath’ will work just fine, We’re physicians before we’re anything else. No need for formality unless you need to slap down a higher ranking officer for being unfit for duty.” It took a second for his expression to communicate that this was intended as a joke.
“Now.. As for what I asked, I merely wished to see what experience you’ve had so far and if there were any experience before the academy. Europa isn’t a combat ship, but we do explore and are often far from support. Sometimes, there might be combat situations to deal with. If you don’t have any bad habits to unlearn, then I’ll be able to teach you to deal with that properly. Now that’s taken care of… Whatever you’d like to do on your own time is completely up to you. Europa has a fair-sized Arboretum area, and I’m sure you’ll be able to get Marsh or Zorell to sign off on any experimenting you’d like to do. Which… If I may point out, botany falls under life sciences, not the medical department. So I have no authority either way in that particular area.” Once he’d finished, he picked up a PaDD off the console and handed it to Fayth.
“These are the results of your scan. Can you tell me what you’d look for next in the context of the information present? Does this result match what’s in your file?”
-Zarath, CMO
Sharah stopped, she’d gotten away from herself again. She took a deep calming breath and listened carefully to what Dr. Zarath said. She took the PaDD and looked it over carefully. She took the time to read the information and process it. “Yes the results match what is in my file. If I was the doctor, I would be reassured that my psilosynine levels are extremely high and steady with no fluxuations. My neruosynapsis are firing without interuption. These two things indicate to me that there is no residual parasitic infection left over from my illness on Challenger. The psilosynine should be high, confirming there is no change in my condition.” Sharah pauses momentairily to see if the Dr requests further clarification about her condition.
“The scans indicate I’ve not gotten enough sleep. Though expected from arriving to Europa late last night and reporting early, for a patient with my condition it could be a cause for concern if it continues. Everything else is normal and consistant with my records.”
She made a mental note to Marsh or Zorell. She had a minor in botany as well and perhaps they would allow her some space to work in the arboretum.
