Ready Room- Debrief

As the chaos from the mission on Grazer died down, Vora found her fingers tapping as she stared at the beautiful start scape displayed in Astrometrics. It should have calmed her, but she was feeling anxious and rather uncertain about the fallout.

Intellectually, she knew it wasn’t her fault. There was no way to predict their pint-sized intruders and the chaos they wrought on the ship. But… she had been in charge. It had happened on her watch and Vora felt that responsibility. She also knew that calling Johann had absolutely been the right decision and he had been best suited to dealing with the situation.

But that didn’t stop her from feeling just a bit sorry for herself. After all, she had been pulled from away team duty after the Ares mission, and now all this crap went down while she had been in command of the bridge. The long look from one of the ensigns shortly after certainly hadn’t helped that twisting feeling in her gut either.

Stop it, Vora, she chided herself. You’re being too hard on yourself, yet again.

And it was then that she knew she needed some perspective, preferably fro the person who understood the situation best.

”… and for that reason, I cannot recommend that the planet Grazer be granted Federation membership at this time.” The Captain cleared his throat as he continued dictating his report to the computer in his Ready Room.

“While the planetary authorities did seem at least somewhat perturbed by the Europa’s discovery of juvenile slave labor, I think it is unlikely that a permanent solution to this problem is possible without regime change. Though, obviously, I am not recommending that Starfleet or the Federation adopt a policy of rollback, as that would be completely contrary to…”

A minute later, the Tenraith strode across the bridge to the ready room where she had checked that their captain was currently. Taking a deep breath, she pressed the chime.

I should rewrite this part later anyway, he thought. =/\= Computer, save draft. =/\=

“Come in,” came the Captain said at the door.

“Well, this is a pleasant distraction,” he said as he saw who it was who came through the door.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Vora gave him a small smile that was genuine as she moved over to his desk. “Well, good. I think we can help each other then, since I need my own distraction,” she said casually, before gesturing to the sitting area. “If you don’t mind indulging me, that is.”

She found a comfortable position after sitting, crossing one leg over the other. “I need some perspective, and I think yours is the best one for this situation.”

“I think we can both agree that last mission was pretty messed up, in a long string of ones that were less than ideal, especially for me.” That makes three in a row of disastrous ones for me. “I know in my head that I didn’t do anything wrong, that I did the best to manage a seemingly unmanageable situation from the bridge. But I feel like I could have, or should have done more. But I couldn’t begin to tell you what. And I don’t know if that is my own paranoia about how people see me on the ship lately, or just my self-doubt rearing it’s reoccurring head.”
