“Sir,” The NE at science said. “I am not picking up anything strange coming from the ship, however, there are some low level in the system.” She said looking at the instruments.

=^=Captain, this thing is phasing in and out. =^= She used the tricorder to send a video of what the device looked like and what it was doing a silver box that was attached to the coolant line and was phasing in and out. She spoke almost too calmly =^=I need to get someone down here with a couple of field enhancers.=^= She said as she moved closer to the device to try and get a better reading off of it without touching it.

Phasing in and out? Johann thought to himself. I’ve heard that somewhere before… And then he remembered where.

“Go to Red Alert,” he ordered a moment later. “Increase speed to full impulse power, and turn hard to starboard.”

=^=Captain, this device is giving off nuclear readings and if you step closer to it, it starts sending out sparks.=^= She said =^=Even getting closer I am not getting any clearer readings. Can you attempt to lock onto the device and transport it away from this area?=^=

“Prepare to momentarily drop shields for transport,” he ordered the Bridge crew. Hopefully they’d only need to drop one shield, and hopefully it wouldn’t be on the same bearing as whatever attack was about to appear, assuming that he had actually drawn the right conclusion from that bit in the intelligence report.

=/\= Bridge to Transporter Room. Lock on to the device at the coordinates indicated and beam it into space. =/\=

OCC: Changed the topic to make it easier for me to keep track of where everyone is.

IC: The NE at science, a young women fresh out of the academy looked at the captain. “Sir, I can’t get a signal on the device, the signal is to unstable. I don’t understand, I have not seen anything like this before.” The young women replied.

“Damn. Run a diagnostic on the sensor system.” It was entirely possible that they had been sabotaged also.

The NE ran the diagnostic, after a moment the system came back indicating that all was in the green. The sensor system was normal and operating with in normal parameters.

=/\= Sullivan, we can’t lock on to the device with the transporter. Can you give us precise coordinates to try feeding manually into the transporter? =/\=

Matty growled =^=Give me a minute Captain.=^= She said as she fed the exact coordinates into the tricorder and sent the information to the bridge. She began looking at the device again.

The NE at the science station tried again. “Sir, those nuclear vibrations are making the signal to unstable. I can’t get a positive lock on the device.” As she finished speaking, the turbo lift doors opened and a couple people stepped off the turbolift, NE Weaver relieved a crew member at the auxiliary control station and NC Jameson relieved an NE at the engineering control station. The two people who were relieved left the bridge.

=^=Captain, change of plans. I need you to lock onto the coolant sensor. This device is too unstable, the nuclear vibrations are causing too much interferance. You get too close, it will phase in as a defense mechanism.=^= Mattie said =^=If we can move the sensor, we might be able to dislodge it. =^=

“Do it,” the Captain ordered the appropriate crewmember.

“Stand by sir.” The NE at the science station said, she tried the transporter again. “Sir, I can lock on the coolant sensor, but the device is interfering with the transporter. I am attempting to compensate.” The NE was inexperienced at this, but was trying her best. “I am trying to beam the whole thing into space.” She said strained as she attempted to work the transporter.

“I think I got it!” She exclaimed as she continued to work the controls.

OCC: I looked back and wasn’t sure if you are sitting or standing, I’m going to assume that the Captain is standing for this next part.

IC: Everything that happened next happened very quickly. Dvorak heard the NE shout “I got it, transport in progress.” as the words came out of her mouth, someone else cried out in warning. “Captain!” Before Dvorak could even process was the was going on, he felt the brunt force of a tackle, the wind nearly getting knocked out of him as he hit the deck. He felt the weight of someone else land on top of him. The sound of a phaser firing near where he was standing. He heard a scream from the NE at the science station. He heard another phaser blast hit a console. The console exploded and a body hit the deck. Someone else on the bridge returned fire at who ever fired first. There was a muted flash on the bridge, then silence.
