Cassidy stepped over nad helped Zeke adjust his helmet.
“I didn’t realize that i had the helmet facing the wrong way,” Zeke remarked. “I’m just glad that I’m not blind.”

“I don’t intend to be leaving right away,” Cassidy said with determination. “Rather not take any unnecessary risks. Besides, never know when it’ll come in handy at the moment.” And with that, she opened the hatch and stepped out into the not-so-forgiving environment.

Marsh shrugged unhappily. He didn’t much like environmental suits, nor did he like the idea that Cassidy wanted to stay on the deck as long as it seemed.

The sun beat down brightly and reflected off the pale compact dirt. She lifted a gloved hand to shield her eyes and squinted as the face shield shifted in tint to block out the harsh light. There, that was better. That alone was good reason to wear the suit.

She could see figures approaching. There was a pair of them, definitely in at least a partial uniform. “We’ve got company. Let’s go be gracious and say hi,’ she said, trying to not hurry over to the Starfleet crewmembers .

It took only a minute for both parties to close the distance. The pair of officers, a Human woman and Human male , in red and blue uniforms respectively, approached, looking beyond exhausted. Cassidy was surprised they were even on their feet. “You folks rang for a pickup?” she said cheerily, doing her best to keep things light, but also even, despite her excitement. They found the survivors!

“For a second I was worried we were having a group hallucination,” the man said, before offering his hand to Cassidy. “Lieutenant Commander Charles Owens, ship’s counsellor. And this is our science officer Lieutenant Bethany Odrix.”

“Cassidy Abrams, Chief of Security, USS Europa.” She gestured to her companions. “And this is Lieutenant Steven Marsh, Chief of Science, and our med chief, Lieutenant Zeke Drake.”

“Well, I’d say welcome, but not sure there is much to welcome you to,” Odrix said, gazing at them with ebony eyes. “Nonetheless, we’re extraordinarily glad to see just about anyone right now.”

Abrams, COS

Zeke flipped open his medical tricorder. He took some readings on the two. He was particularly scanning for radiation levels, type of radiation exposure, and any symptoms and side effects.

CMO

The gamma radiation they had detected when they came into orbit was definitely present, and Owens and Odrix registered low levels

Marsh raised an eyebrow, “Once I report that we have a clear landing zone, we can start the shuttle runs.” He paused, “I can take the most at risk medically right now.” He wondered if the pleasantries implied there no critically injuries. He wondered where was the Captain of the Tien Men.. “also how many survivors do you have and what happened to your ship.”

Marsh

“And the medical status of your people,” Zeke added. “We can also bring more shuttles down.”

CMO

OOC: And I completely forgot the Fermi and the Brahe had rendezvoused with the Europa. So there are plenty of ferrying options between the three ships. This is why reading back is good. lol
IC:
“We abandoned ship after we were attacked twice and boarded out of nowhere,” Odrix replied. “Lost life support on multiple decks and while we outnumbered the mercenaries, they often used wide beam spreads to down the crew. We lost quite a few before Captain Massey and Commander Abrams made the call to abandon ship. We’re down to 168 crew, but we’ve got some critical ones. Come with us, we’ll take you to them.”

Cassidy didn’t waste time and simply fell in stride with the TAM crew members, though she cast an anxious glance at Marsh and Drake. “We managed to find the TAM and catch the logs. Where are Captain Massey and Commander Abrams? The log said Massey was critically injured.”

“She’s… in rough shape,” the counsellor replied. Owens ran a hand over his head and cast a look at Cass. “We weren’t expecting her to survive. She’s went into cardiac arrest last night but we managed to get her heart started. She’s not regained consciousness. The Commander has been trying to make sure we have our survival needs met. We’ve got some shuttles, so we have replicators, but the radiation is a problem. Lots of interference and random malfunctions. And people are starting to experience radiation poisoning.”

The were about 400 metres from the camp, but it required a scrabble over a small outcropping of rocks. Odrix glanced at Abrams every now and again, sensing her worry but also her hopefulness. Finally, Bethany commented. “Lieutenant Abrams… you’re Norene and Adir’s daughter, aren’t you?”

Cass simply nodded, aiming for the best poker face she could muster, despite Odrix being Betazoid and having her entirely figured out. “I’d ask about my father, but I’m not sure I am ready to know just yet. I’m assuming my mother is all right?”

“Yes, she’s okay. Holding the fort well, as it were,” the counsellor chimed in. He looked a bit uneasy, as if trying to decide whether to say anything more. But Odrix subtly shook her head at him.

Abrams, COS & TAM Crew

Marsh looked at the path. It was going to be very hard to move the casualties the quarter of a mile to the shuttle. “Is there a landing area closer. It would move the injuries faster.”

marsh

“A small one,” Odrix replied. “Shuttles and runabouts can manage but probably no more than two at a time.”

“I’ll want to set up a triage,” Zeke said. “Treat the most seriously wounded, first. Preferably in an enclosed area. Let’s take a look at your Captain.”

CMO

Marsh looked at the doctor. He would rather move the injured to the ship where they could get better care, but sometimes faster was more important than better. “As you say doctor.” There was some question in his voice but he would defer to the better qualified officer.

Marsh

“Wait, you’re right,” Zeke apologized. “We need to find a closer landing site. I’m assuming that you have the more serious wounded in your shuttles?”

CMO

“Yes. We’ve reserved them for those that need the shelter the most. It dips a bit cooler at night but so far it seems to be tolerable. Less so if you’re injured, obviously,” Odrix said.

“Take my tri-corder and put it on a low wave signal to illuminate the landing area. I’ll double back to the shuttle and bring her to the closer landing area.” He looked at the doctor the unspoken message was that he would be ready to return to the Europa when needed.

“We can do shifts with our shuttles, bring up those who need more immediate care,” Cassidy said, desperately wanting to question the TAM’s CSO about the look she had exchanged with the counsellor.

Commander Owens gestured as he began to lead the way.

The climb over the rocks wasn’t too bad, though of course the away team had to deal with their EVA suits. Cass turned to Steven. “Radiation seems not detrimental so far. Willing to risk it? It would be easier to ditch the suits and move about more easily. Dr. Drake can top us up on radiation inoculations.”

Abrams, COS

Marsh

“These people seem okay,” Zeke noted. “I’ll know more after I examine a few of them for radiation sickness.”
