After the meal, the trio continued to spend time together. Avik played tourist guide as she took them to the more notable sights and attractions. Thankfully their conversation never treaded back into the earlier subject. As the day closed, Avik said her goodbyes and once more boarded the ship.

The experience left her exhausted. She made her way to her quarters. When the doors hissed shut behind her, her eyes shifted to her datapad and she bit her lip. Delaying it would only make it worse. Resigned to her decision, she took off her pad from her desk and slid onto her bed.

Avik’s fingers darted across the touch screen. The first part was easy as she had to do was type in the address for the data packet and the receiver, but the rest seemed far more daunting. Her mind thought of the words. Each sentence sounded worse than the last in her head. Her left hand raised to her temple and took a moment to rub away the pain. Avik wondered what she hoped to accomplish with this small act. Did she want to renew the crumbling relationship with her father or simply to please Kekec? Answers didn’t come at all despite how hard she tried to reason out the facts. Resisting the urge to simply give in, Avik began to force herself to type what was on her mind.

Father,

I’ve missed you and it’s time we talked. Kekec had informed me about the anniversary of mother’s death, suggesting I contact and see you during. For the longest time, I’ve been avoiding it. We both know my history when it came to dealing with mother’s death. I didn’t grieve well or moved on from it. A part of me illogically blamed myself for it even when my part was nonexistent. We will discuss the details when I arrive home.

Your daughter, Avik.

Avik just stared at the text for several minutes. Her emotions trying to surface as she smashed them down, refusing to let them in. Logically it sounded too emotional to her, but she couldn’t bring herself to write it again. Her finger stretched over to hit send. The pad thumped while she placed it on the table, her eyes looked at the clock readout. She resumed her duties the next day causing her to turn in earlier than usual. The day had mentally drained most of her energy by now leaving her to sleep peacefully.
