“We’ve got other aux vessels too. We can use them to enhance communications if needed, as well as increase ferrying speed, if the transporters prove completely useless,” Abrams commented.
“I’m sure I can get them working, the question is what was the risk level.” He probably could have tried to beam down with all the radiation. Might not have made it in one piece, but something would have gotten through…
“Okay, here goes nothing…” Cassidy said as she opened a channel on a standard Starfleet frequency. =/\=This is Shuttle Bowman from the USS Europa calling any Starfleet crew on the surface. Please respond.=/\=
She waited for any response and for several moments there was nothing. Then, there was some static. Cass frowned. =/\=Can you clear the signal up at all?” she asked.
Abrams, COS
Marsh shrugged. “We’ll be on the ground in 3 minutes.” He looked over his shoulder at her. He understood the impatience, but the little he could do now wasn’t more than simply getting closer would change. “Try again.”
Marsh
Cassidy simply nodded.
“You’re probably still getting interference from the atmospheric radiation,” Zeke said. “Fortunately, our shuttles have always been designed with heavy radiation shielding in mind.”

“We won’t be exposed long enough for it to matter.” He looked for a landing area. “The survivors of the Tien have been down there for weeks. We’ll be exposed for, at most, a few hours.” He didn’t even think it would be that long.
Marsh
“Once we make contact, I’ll want to examine a few of them for symptoms of radiation poisoning,” Zeke said.
CM
“Radiation poisoning is pretty much a guarantee Doc.” Marsh spun slightly in his chair to direct the comment backwards but never actually made eye contact. They were going at a pretty fast clip for a landing in two minutes and Marsh didn’t want to take his eyes of the window or his sensors for any protracted period of time.
He thought for a moment, and then added, “Which, of course, you should expect me to.” He also used his medical tricorder to pull up that specific radation type. Then he cross checked the symptoms of both short and long term exposure, with the medicine that he had carefully packed for the mission.

Cassidy tried again. =/\=This is Shuttle Bowman from the USS Europa calling any Starfleet crew on the surface. Please respond.=/\=
The static was less and at first there was no response, but then she started to hear something, if indistinct. =/\=This is Shuttle Bowman. We didn’t catch that, please repeat.=/\= Her fingers tapped anxiously on the edge of the console.
=/\=This is Lieu… Mien… people… …surv…=/\=
Cassidy shook her head. =/\=We’re still not catching much of that, but standby, we’re going to land. We’ve got you. Bowman out.=/\= she said firmly, doing her best to keep her emotions in check.
“It doesn’t matter how clear things are for us, but we’re probably not going to be able to get a signal up to the Europa without a lot of amplifying. So I’ll just set us down and we’ll at least get the lay of the situation,” Abrams commented. She knew she was on the edge of starting to ramble and she needed to focus on the task at hand and not her personal stake in it.
As the shuttle banked, people came more into focus and she set the shuttle down not to far from the encampment. The moment the ship touched ground, she immediately switched off the engines and was moving towards the back to finish gearing up. “Full gear. Let’s not take any more risks than necessary,” she said, slipping her helmet over and ensuring the seal was solid.
Abrams, COS
The minutes move slowly as he used the signal to improve his fix on the best landing site. “Over there,” he nodded to the best clearing nearest to the transmission.
He spun the shuttle nicely turning its aft towards the signal direction. It would be easier and quicker to load this way. There was one thing for certain, that this was not the only trip they would need to take.
Marsh
Zeke was getting his own Eva suit on. He cursed as he seemed to have a bit of trouble with fastening the cumbersome helmet. “Infernal thing,” he remarked. “They’re impossible no matter what the era of space travel is.”
