“Well…” He stopped himself short and seemed to ponder this for a bit.

“I was going to say that a ‘mutiny’ would be an unlikely thing to have happen, so it’s not worth testing for… but… didn’t she have some problem with someone else in security a while ago?” It was a conflict he knew about because he paid much closer attention to things that happened on the ship than he let on. Though it was a long time ago, so he didn’t quite remember with whom or why… just that marksmanship had something to do with it…

“I recall it. I was there with Range when he settled the dispute and the two seemed to have simmered down. Give me a moment to see if I can recall the officer’s name,” Avik pointed out.

“But, I do recall they went for a drink afterward. They are friendly rivals at worst now.”

She wasn’t sure the officer would do. They had cleared their differences and appeared to get along well. So it wouldn’t make very much sense for the officer to stir up trouble once more. Healthy respect didn’t randomly disappear.

“Well, that’s actually a good thing,” he said, for the only time ever wanting there to be a conflict between his crew.

“Actually, we could still do a mutiny. We just need to take that situation from a couple missions ago and turn it up to eleven. Have the computer whip up some Ensigns who graduated the Academy by mistake, and let them all freak out all over the place during something bad. That’s usually how mutinies would start, given that Starfleet has never adopted the Old Earth naval traditions of impressment or flogging.”

“That is one tradition that was best left out. You can’t expect to learn much from it.”

Avik clearly wasn’t a fan when it came to the mention of old traditions and it showed in her subtle tone. Her eyes glanced down to the list of Department Heads. They still had most the list to get through, but their time was becoming short. She decided that it was best to readdress the CoS’s test when they had more time. The others needed addressing first before she was required to return to her duties.

“It’s a joke, Avik,” the Captain explained patiently. “The joke is they left it out exactly because it causes mutinies.”

Always a tough crowd… he thought.

“I’m a Vulcan. You should know humor is not appropriate on duty,” Avik hinted to her upbringing.

“Now that we have an idea, perhaps we should continue to review the rest first. Who do you want to address next?” Avik asked.

“Let’s just go up the list,” he said, pulling up the next file.

“What do you think about Doctor Drake? He’s always been a bit… odd… but he seems very focused on keeping Sickbay prepared for anything.”

“Performance-wise, he appears satisfactory. His social skills are unique. but I have found our conversations enlightening.” Avik subtly revealed some of her time off duty have been spending in the sickbay.

“It might be worth interviewing some of his Junior Officers to see how they feel working under him. Mostly to ensure that there’s no discomfort and the department cooperation isn’t suffering.”

She paused to add a disclaimer, “I suspect everything is fine, but it can not hurt. Do you disagree?”
