Zeke entered the shuttle. Aside from his medical tricorder he had a sealed container of coffee with him. He took a seat in one of the chairs behind the pilot stations. “All set here,” he reported. “I’ve got the Sickbay on stand by. Just in case.”

Hearing Zeke, Avik turned from the pilot and looked into the CMO’s direction. She acknowledged his whereabouts with a nod. Now they just had to wait for the CoS to arrive. Avik continued to puzzle over the skeletons and their reason for being there. Unfortunately, no clear answers came to her mind. Only theories.

She finished up with the pilot as she sat down, strapping herself in for the flight.

Abrams arrived a moment later and stowed some gear in the back: pattern enhancers (a recurring theme with the presence of radiation) and some extra science gear in case she needed to do double duty. She was armed, as per away mission protocol, but she had stowed a phaser rifle, just in case. Was that excessive? Possibly. But given the high level of unknowns, she wasn’t about to have them completely at the mercy of any dangerous elements that may or may not be present.

Cassidy slipped into the co-pilot’s seat. “Pre-checks have cycled through. We look good to go,” she said.

With her fingers dancing across the screen. =/\=Bridge, this is Runabout Elysium. Pre-flights are done and we’re ready for take off. Waiting for the all-clear.=/\=

Outside of the shuttle, the two-tone decompression alarm began sounding. Then the forcefield snapped on and bathed the room and everything in it with a blue glow, as the shuttle bay door lumbered open slowly.

=/\= You’re clear to launch, Elysium, =/\= came the Captain’s voice over the shuttle’s comm system.

Cassidy started up the engine and when given the thumbs-up form the bay crew, she piloted the shuttle through the shuttlebay doors, leaving the relative safety fo the Europa behind. She banked them slightly to starboard and entered in a flight path to lead them over the location where the mixture of lifesigns were, careful to avoid going anywhere near the indigenous population.

“We’re heading in. I’m doing my best to make sure that the locals don’t see us. Once we hit the stratosphere, we should hopefully have better sensor readings, but let me know if you want to land. Otherwise we can hover over an area to get our bearing better,” Abrams said.

“I’m anxious to meet whomever our mysterious researcher is,” Zeke said. “I want to review his notes and procedures.”
